New ‘Large’ size tile for WP8.1?

Nazwil8 tweets that there might be a fourth live tile size. We began with ‘medium’ square and ‘wide’ rectangle. This was followed by WP8 using more of the width of the screen and introducing ‘small’ square.

For WP8.1, we can enjoy Mr Joe Belfiore demoing the resizing of tiles all over again with the ‘Large’ tile.

We’ve seen some possible mistaken photoshops posted on Nokia’s facebook of larger tiles. Perhaps they weren’t mistaken?

What form will the ‘large’ tile take? 4X4? Or super wide for larger phablet sized devices (i.e. 2×6)

Cheers Edwin for the tip!

360 ‘video’ of Nokia Lumia Icon from Verizon #929

This ‘video’ was grabbed from Verizon’s site showing the Nokia Lumia Icon #929 rotating 360 degrees.

As with Nokia’s 3D renders, they often make the device oddly uglier/thicker than real life pictures. This may be the case again here since we’ve already seen live pictures of the icon and it looks better than what we’re seeing here.

Swype(like?) keyboard coming to Windows Phone says Tom Warren

A user commented on TheVerge saying that the only thing they’re missing is something similar to the ‘Android Swype’ keyboard. Tom Warren replied that it’s coming.

Tom Warren is more often than not correct on his MS/WP related comments.

I’m not quite sure which specific Verge comments this came from but it was reposted to Reddit.

Swype means one finger dragging to write messages, which might help out in one handed typing operations. The last time I used it was on the N8 (Didn’t really need it on N9). On Lumia, the keyboard was one of the best things about it but it’s about time that grows with the competition or even just gives users additional options. (BTW, typing on the big screen 1520 is the best keyboard experience I’ve had so far with Nokia Lumia).

Concept: WP8 background wallpapers (animated .gifs)

This isn’t the first time we’ve seen concepts for WP that includes a background wallpaper. This concept is created by Fabian Pimminger.

In the animated .gifs below you can see how it works with vertical scrolling, horizontal scrolling (including a side swipe notification).

Note that some of the tiles are slightly translucent to maximise the view of the background wallpaper.

WP Notification Centre on Nokia Lumia 1020 (Action Center)

Tom Warren from TheVerge seems to have a different version of the WP notification screenshot going around. This may be a mock up put on the 1020 or a different screenshot altogether.  Either way, he confirms this new look is genuine.

The four basic quick settings are customizable. I think I might set screen brightness for one.

Similar buttons to email. Pulldown over email on left. On right, the various notifications, grouped in terms of apps.

Windows Phone 8.1 Action Center Leaks here’s how it looks

The above email exchange between Microsoft employees is arguably the first leaked screenshot of what Microsoft is calling Action Center, just like Android and IOS, it’s accessed by a swipe down from the top, and it’ll present four customizable quick settings buttons. (Which makes the picture bellow a lot more credible)
Screen Shot 2013-12-18 at 13.58.17

If you’re within an app the Action Center will not show notification immediately, instead a blue bar will show up that requires your interaction to show them, the source claims that this is to prevent accidental app launches during games.

The exchange also describes some kind of ghost notifications for less than important apps, where developers could push notifications even alter or delete them without alarming you, which sounds like a good idea for games, fitness apps, weather & etc.

Another lovely addition is the battery percentage bellow the battery icon, yet another highly requested feature gets added in an elegant non intrusive way.

Personally I can’t wait for the quick settings shortcuts, how about you?
