Nokia US Teasing an Upcoming Phone With Rich Recording; Probably Lumia Icon/929 Posted: 07 Feb 2014 10:51 AM PST Nokia US just posted a video teasing for something coming soon, the video doesn’t show much; but it does seem to have some very interesting audio capture. As well as the words “Seen and HEAR what’s coming”, something that makes you think of Nokia’s amazing rich recording, and reminiscent of the of their latest ad for that.
It’s safe to assume that this is most likely for the Lumia 929/Icon which we’ve heard and seen so much of. So expect to see an announcement soon, besides the 20 Mp pureview camera and what appears to be their rich recording technology.

Accessory Review: Lumia 1520 Wallet Flip Case Posted: 07 Feb 2014 05:18 AM PST Our friends over at Mobilefun sent us a neat little case to keep our Lumia 1520 safe sound (to avoid any nasty cracked screens); they hooked us up with the “Capdase Sider Baco Folder Case for Nokia Lumia 1520“. The case is essentially a flip case for the 1520 that also triples out as a stand for the phone, as well as a wallet (with 3 card slots). The case has a nice premium feel for it, and provides a decent amount of protection to the 1520, to keep your mind at ease. The back of the case also props out, acting as a stand for the phone in case you want to watch something, quite useful when using a 6 inch phone I might add. And in the interest of being multi-purpose, the case also has 3 slots for cards in it; which might save you the hassle of carrying a wallet if you’re into that sort of thing (I myself am a wallet man). The case has a nice plastic housing on the inside to hold the 1520 in place, and act as a second layer of protection, which surprisingly doesn’t add much thickness to the phone; a good thing of course. The front of the case is held shut by two tiny suction cups which close down on the screen, personally this was the only thing I didn’t like with the case as I felt there wasn’t much need for those cups sticking onto my screen (I was afraid they’d eventually leave a little ring marking where they snap shut); I personally would’ve preferred a case without those, or perhaps a sort of magnet action. All in all it’s a pretty sweet case, and if you’re looking for a wallet case that also flips out as a stand be sure to check this one out; you can grab it at the Mobilefun store for $32 at the link below: Also be sure to check out the rest of their available cases for the Lumia 1520 below:

Update: so it is a bit easier to switch from saving to phone memory or card. Doesn’t cause any issues that I feared. It turns out that the class 10 Sandisk ultra card may be the issue. On the weekend I had a chance to play about with the 1520′s camera a bit more. Perhaps I shouldn’t have given that the 1520′s screen was just recently damaged in a way that any slight movement caused it to press buttons, scroll erratically or exit apps randomly. At the time, I assumed that when videos I played slightly stuttered or skipped I thought it was due to that. Oddly this week, the screen started behaving again and despite the cosmetic screen damage, I’ve been really enjoying using the 1520.
Anyway, in the video unboxing yesterday, I noticed the stuttering again. It skipped some frames and then eventually the audio became garbage as it was lost and out of sync. The same happened again. Was it either:
I tried to record on the default WP camera app and that seemed a lot better (in that the video and audio are ok. There’s no zooming, or stereo audio) Though WP camera is recording at lower bitrates than the Nokia Camera app, right? I’m hoping it’s more due to the app than the MicroSD card I recently got (I have misplaced the packaging as it was just one of those frustration free ones from Amazon). I’ve seen a few threads online where folks are mentioning issues like this with their MicroSD (as they’ve been sent some faulty/fake Sandisk cards). I also read some comments that mention the issue was also on their 1020, suggesting something to do with Nokia Camera. I’m not 100% sure what the issue is. I could take out the MicroSD card and film again with the 1520 but I’m not sure how stable it is in handling MicroSD cards. I’ll try later after Uni. The 1520 is going to be sent in for repair btw so I might not have it with me to test for a few days.

Accessories: Nokia DC-50 Portable Wireless Charging plate – filmed on Lumia 1520 Posted: 07 Feb 2014 12:53 AM PST This is the Nokia DC-50, the portable wireless charging plate. Thanks again to the local Nokia Music team and the dude that does the music for this :). In the box you get:
The surfaces have a grippy texture to them. Sides are glossy. At the bottom you have the charging indicator LEDs to tell you how much juice you have left. The button to initiate the indicator and the microUSB port. I find this much better than the QI charging pins as it means I can plug this in anywhere. BTW, you can use the plate as a plugged in wireless charging plate though that might not be the best action for battery maintenance. The other short side has another LED to tell you when the wireless charger is activated. You can charge it up by cable or put it on another wireless charger to charge up. Also whilst it is charging by either method, you can charge another device. A bit of a wirelesschargerception. Videos:
There was an issue again with Nokia Camera on the 1520 with stuttering audio. Default camera app seems to work fine. Youtube is just refusing to process that video this time. :/. |
Phablet fight: Nokia Lumia 1520 vs Oppo N1 Posted: 07 Feb 2014 12:48 AM PST Steve Litchfield from AAWP compares Nokia’s top trump flagship phablet against the Oppo N1. The N1 sports a large 5.9″ display, but although slightly smaller than the 1520′s 6″ is actually a taller phone due to that interesting swivel camera. I think we’ve mentioned that device once or twice here before due to the intriguing form factor. In short, overall in the parameters AAWP checked out, they find the 1520 to win. Head on over to the link below to find out why.
Cheers Alvester for the tip! |
