Whatsapp for Windows Phone has just received a long overdue update, bringing a slew of improvements and new features. Most importantly is a proper background agent, getting rid of the audio streaming in the background! Hip Hip Hooray! Also updated are the Emoji to match thos of iOS and Android (i’ve had a couple sticky situations were I accidentally sent the wrong face :/ ). Plus now you have the option to voice call a contact directly from the app (not THROUGH the app) but simply a shortcut rather than finding their name in the contacts list. Another change is the larger preview fro sent images (as seen below) and a warning informing you that you won’t recieve push messages when in battery saving mode. All in all it’s a long awaited and much needed update grab it at the link below and enjoy! |

Hands on Gallery: Nokia Lumia 1020 in Black Posted: 12 Jul 2013 07:21 AM PDT The final singles gallery – the Nokia Lumia 1020 this time in a sleek black. When it came to the 808 PureView, I really liked it in Red or White. But with the Nokia Lumia 1020, I’m really finding it hard to decide. We have one more gallery after this (possibly to share tomorrow) to help decide (or make things worse :p). Sides:

Posted: 12 Jul 2013 06:43 AM PDT I bumped into Rafe Blandford of AllAboutSymbian/AllAboutWindowPhone whilst I was snapping pics of the Nokia Lumia 1020. Of course he had his Nokia 808 PureView too so we got to snap some pics of them together.

GDR3 Set for Late This Year, Blue and Notification Center for 2014 Posted: 12 Jul 2013 05:27 AM PDT According to The Verge, Microsoft have been forced to delay the update cycle for WP; due to some major bugs leading to a cut-down on those planned/scheduled mini updates.
As we previously heard, GDR3 will bring quad core support, 1080p resolution, and hopefully usher in an ere of larger screen sizes (a phablet at Nokia world is looking quite promising right about now). On the other hand the major update “Blue” is slated for a 2014 release with some more important features such as notification center, improve multitasking and updates to built-in apps (improved Me/People hub please!)
Apparently the delay of WP Blue has lead to some features that were initially set to some out in the BLue update to be added to GDR3, mainly rotation lock. So basically once again Nokia have made a killer device, and Microsoft have killed it with their incompetence and slow updates, thank you. Really.

Nokia Pro Cam Headed to lumia 920, 925 and 928 Posted: 12 Jul 2013 05:13 AM PDT In the latest post by Nokia Conversation, they have confirmed that the amazing Nokia Pro Cam will indeed be available on the complete range of Lumia PureView devices (Lumia 920, 925 and 928).
I’m not sure when it’ll be available for the 925 seeing how it’s already running Nokia Amber. Hopefully we can pick it up in the marketplace soon enough.

Hands on Gallery of the Nokia Lumia 1020 in Yellow – with wrist strap/lanyard Posted: 12 Jul 2013 04:35 AM PDT Let’s take a look at the Nokia Lumia 1020 in yellow. At the bottom of the Nokia Lumia 1020, you’ll notice immediately that there’s a wrist strap attached. Perfect for such a camera centric device so you it’s more protected from unwanted drops. I’ve been a fan of this since my Nokia 7610 all the way to N8 and 808. There’s a microUSB port and a speaker port. You’ll notice that instead of one on either side like with the 920, it’s just on the right (we’ll share more comparisons soon). Interestingly, one of the two microphones used for stereo recording is inside this grille. Pretty neat. It’s also a lot slimmer on end vs 920. The side is uniform to Nokia Lumia. Camera button, lock button and volume rocker. At the top, you have one of the microphones, the 3.5mm jack and the SIM tray. I like that the dot for the pinhole of the SIM tray is equidistant to the microphone hole. There’s nothing on the other side. All flush. The back is the new front. Huge camera at the back. LED for video and AF or even photo flash apparently. Xenon flash for freezing those moments and also as fill light when there’s strong light behind your subject and of course the 41MP camera. Note the two dots as well for optional wireless charging. The yellow and other available colours (black and white) are in a matte finish. It’s that same original polycarbonate feel that gives better grip. I remember a video we posted where part of it involves sanding down of the gloss. A lot of you were big fans of the matte. It should also mean that any fine scratches will be even less noticeable. Here’s the 1020 dangling from the wrist strap. Obviously the strap would be around your wrist and not hanging precariously over a finger. Here’s the strap itself Gorgeous, popping AMOLED screen at the front. Gorilla Glass 3, curved screen. 920 photobombs this picture. Not yet, 920. Behave! Very comfortable to hold in the hand. Closer view on the hump. It’s deceptively well done to have just that tiny slip of black. Being slimmer as well as lighter helps too
Laying on a flat surface. The hump raises the 1020 up at an angle. I think this means the camera portion doesn’t make contact with the surface? I don’t think that’s a feature.
It looks super sleek from here. Imagine a version which was this thickness all the way through (one not for camera enthusiasts) Inspecting the hump in various angles
The curve on that screen is gorgeous. Right, so that’s it for now. Going to do a bit of packing as I’m heading back to Manchester today. But if I’ll get time I’ll see what I can post. |
Video: Lumia 920 vs. 520 Software Performance Comparison Posted: 12 Jul 2013 04:23 AM PDT I’ve had the Lumia 520 for about a month now, and honestly I haven’t been giving it its fair share of attention (mainly due to the arrival of the Lumia 925, stealing its thunder). But here’s the usual software performance comparison between the 520 and the 920. The fact that the 520 doesn’t compromise *much* on performance is probably why it’s the already the best selling Windows Phone out there; check out the video below and judge for yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtFimWdydng
