Video: The Best unboxing ever – Nokia Lumia 920 unboxed and shown off in epic badass cinematic style Posted: 13 Mar 2013 05:10 PM PDT Modestly titled “Terrible Unboxing” this is in actual fact, the best unboxing ever of a Nokia device I’ve ever seen. Heck, it’s the best unboxing of anything I’ve ever seen. You get the usual, quick look at what’s in the box, but the main theme of it is badass movie style in the way it shows off the features of the 920 better than any Nokia promo in the past. I like the use of Nokia memes, ladies, play on words, guns, explosions, tons and tons of humour and super high production value. The Lumia 920 OIS bike scene, oh that killed me with laughter. Very memorable ways of presenting these features from Nokia. Ha, NFC tags. I urge you to watch it. Major kudos to the folks behind this video.

Leaked Photo Sample from Lumia 928. Update: Picture Removed. Posted: 13 Mar 2013 11:24 AM PDT @evleaks just posted a link to the image above; stating that it was taken with a Nokia Lumia 928. According to the Exif data on the image it was indeed taken with a Lumia 928, running Windows Phone; the claim is solidified by the fact that the person who posted it appears to work at Nokia according to his G+ profile. The photo has been removed from the Picasa link, luckily we were fast enough to get a screenshot of the Exif data (you can’t hide on the internet). *The photo above is the original image and not a screenshot; for those of you interested in a closer look.
I must say I was really hoping for a larger aperture, something like the 720 with a f/1.9; is there a way to figure out how many megapixels were in the image?

Posted: 13 Mar 2013 08:57 AM PDT Joining the likes of Gizmodo, The Times of India’s camera smartphone battle has the Nokia Lumia 920 as their winner.
Big wins for ease of use, OIS, low light capture, low noise, and Nokia’s suite of lenses. No mention of 808 here as it’s not available in the Indian market, no? Cheers Aba for the tip!

The Compact Nokia Lumia 620 — Marko Ahtisaari, Nokia Design Team Posted: 13 Mar 2013 08:42 AM PDT |

So far, yesterday fleshed out some information about a possible Nokia Lumia 928 on Verizon.
A few more rumours have sparked. On Reddit, someone reckons these are the supposed dimensions.
The poster is quite prolific on Reddit technology related boards (not just WP). He says the dimensions are 133mm tall, 68.9mm wide. Rich compares that to the 920 which was 130.3mm tall and 70.8mm wide. This next one comes from WPC forum. I’m not quite sure of the poster, but they seem to work closely with/for Verizon (WPC via WMPU) When questioned about release dates:

MS job posting talks about Engineers testing WP9/W9 on Nokias? Posted: 13 Mar 2013 06:11 AM PDT It may or may not come as a surprise that MS are already working on the NEXT version of Windows, Windows 9 and Windows Phone 9. Job postings from Microsoft detailed testing of W(P)9 on Nokia. I wonder what Family Room features on WP8 are? Note the listing says Windows Phone test service team, testing Windows 9 OS on Nokia (not Windows Phone 9). Could be a typo, or as speculated, another name change (as some people already call WP8 windows 8) Anywhoo, we have heard recently that major updates will be compatible to current WP8 Lumias. That should be obvious but knowing what happened with WP7.5, it’s better to be safe and certain than sorry. Whether this update will be a 0.5 style update (e.g. 7.0 to 7.5 that does bring in some useful features), something quite major (like the Service Pack like Blue update that apparently will appear through the store to update things like the browser) or an actual full integer update, I don’t know.Source: MsftKitchen.com via NeoWin |

Foursquare for WP has had quite a bit of a facelift on this WP8 version. The Nokia Lumia apparently gets some unique Nokia features such as a clickable map, including augmented reality, City-Lens style.

PureView vs UltraPixel (PV, Phase 2.) (PS, PureView v1 kicks Ultrapixel’s ass) Posted: 13 Mar 2013 05:45 AM PDT
Yesterday, we talked about how PureView absolutely demolished the HTC One in terms of review praises for the camera. That was PureView V1. I was elated when I got the tweet about PocketNow’s PureView vs UltraPixel test because the PureView V1 will just embarrass the competition. Well, it wasn’t quite the 808 but it’s still PureView (v2)
I don’t think there’s any mention of the 808, although I do find it funny that there’s mentions of ‘large sensor sizes’ when talking about the HTC. (Question, how big is the sensor in the N95, announced 2006?) Folks, it is NO Content. PureView vs UltraPixel. Side by side comparison will just be formalities. We should add tests for zooming, cropping, super low light with flash and movement (people, the fan test etc). If we’re speaking simply on terms of phone-camera performance, then the 808 with PureView V1 wins. We have to also think about practical terms. Even if PV1 was to come to Lumia, could the mass market stomach a hump? WP might be easier to stomach than Symbian, but can the masses handle all that extra lumps?
PocketNow warns Nokia to keep innovations flowing as the ultra-low light battle is no longer a once horse race. True. The 720 is pretty great in low light, as is the 808 :p. Cheers Nabkawe5 |
