Posted: 27 Mar 2013 05:05 PM PDT Unity 4 Beta for WP8 was announced yesterday. Folks who have built iOS or Android games with Unity can port these easily to WP. Here’s a 20 minute video to explain some of the things you can do with Unity for WP. Check out how a Windows 8 project can easily migrate to Windows Phone. I like Vlad Kolesnikov’s accent (on the right); he sounds like an eastern European Christopher Walken. Source: Windows |
Havok, Marmalade and more join Unity in getting devs to port games to Windows Phone Posted: 27 Mar 2013 05:00 PM PDT
As well as Unity, Microsoft have also got the folks at Havok and Marmalade on board to port games to Windows Phone. Moreover, Cocos2d-x community have released a new version of Cocos-2d-x for WP8. Finally, PowerA announced support for their MOGA game controllers.
Marmalade already have 6th Planet (Monkube) and Propel Man(Spiel Studio) available in store. |
Windows Phone 8 apps get Unity 4 Beta programme Posted: 27 Mar 2013 02:46 PM PDT Today Unity launches the Unity 4 Beta programme for Windows Phone 8 apps so that Unity experienced devs can get a foothold in an all new marketplace that’s said to be looking great for games (they have Drift Mania Championship 2 , Fling Theory and Orcs Must Survive already in store)
Cheers Bloob for the tip!

Video: Nokia Lumia 920 and Ninja Cat Posted: 27 Mar 2013 02:34 PM PDT
Something lighthearted for a mid-week evening (well in the UK and similar timezones). Someone was doing a video recording test and manage to film their cat catching a ball mid-air like a ninja. Check out the laser eyes as the LED flash reflects back to the camera from these cat-eyes.
Hattip to drexter for the heads up. |
Video: Nokia N900 and NEMO Mobile snapshot 0.20130218.1.NEMO.2013-03-24.2 Posted: 27 Mar 2013 02:29 PM PDT The last post on the 950 reminded me of this video I watched the other day on the Nokia N900 (note the resistive stylus that pops on the screen every now and again?). The N900 is running NEMO Mobile snapshot 0.20130218.1, part of the Mer project on MAEMO which otherwise looks like Harmattan to me. I think the resemblance is noted in one of the comments.
Here’s an older video where it looked more like the old Maemo.

Video: Bypassing the lockscreen on the Nokia N950 (950!) by crashing it? Posted: 27 Mar 2013 02:01 PM PDT GSM Arena have story that attempts to lump in the Nokia N9 with the recently defective Androids that have glitches allowing bypassing of the lockscreen (such as Sammy’s SGS3). Well firstly, the device in the video ISN’T a Nokia N9. It’s the 950. (The title of the video clearly says this). It has a physical keyboard which the N9 does not. Now I’m not sure if pairing the N9 to a keyboard could do the same thing. Small difference perhaps but it might make quite a different outcome. Secondly – the N950 was never for sale for the general consumer. Who’s going to get affected? Lastly – when was the last time the firmware for the N9 was updated? Who’s working on the N9 anymore? Now, of course, it’s not a good thing that this is actually possible. I can’t be certain that this can be replicated amongst other N950s (a quick search returns no other occurrence) so N950 users (or even N9 users on BT keyboard) might shed some more light on this. I’d be a lot more worried if this was something that happened to devices barely a year old from release. Point? This really isn’t a consumer issue is it?

Posted: 27 Mar 2013 01:37 PM PDT It’s finally here! and after an excruciatingly long download time (about 15 minutes for a 23 Mb app) I gave temple run a quick spin on my 920. the app performs quite smoothly in my opinion, although apparently some people have other opinions. So here’s a quick video showing how Temple Run performs on WP8 (unfortunately it’s only for the Lumia 920 & 820 at the moment).
In case you haven’t downloaded it yet, scan the QR codes from the post below: Temple Run Now Available to Download from WP Store; For FREE! |

Posted: 27 Mar 2013 10:32 AM PDT According to a tweet by @Nokia_US a new software update should now be available to Lumia 920′s (probably starting with US variants). The new version is 1232.5957.1308.0001 which is possibly the same variant that was spotted a while back for the 820 and 620 which brought the new storage control options.
Any of you guys getting an update? My 920 is a no show for updated goodness. Update: After reaching out to the Nokia guys we now know that the update brings fixes to the proximity sensor, auto brightness and general performance:

Video: PureMotion HD+ Demo; Fan Re-Make Posted: 27 Mar 2013 09:57 AM PDT Back when the Lumia 920 and 820 launched Nokia released a little promo video explaining what PureMotion HD+ was all about; the video was a cute little animation showing how the pixels on the screen “run” faster. Well here’s a cool fan made remake (with the same sound track):
Check out the original down below:
