Windows Phones Galore in the Latest Under the Dome Episode

Posted: 14 Jul 2013 11:02 AM PDT

Under the dome 2I don’t know if anyone has been watching the new show “Under the Dome” based on the Stephen King book (I like it so far, pretty nice; although some things seem to stray away from the book as usual with any TV adaptation). In the latest episode (episode 3), there seems to have been a whole house party sponsored by Microsoft, with Lumia 920s all over the places in multiple colors, as well as an HTC 8x and even a Surface tablet.

*In regards to the actual show I think the only person who really “sucks” at acting would be the lady cop, Linda; absolutely dreadful.

Render: Cyan Lumia 1020; Hot or Not?

For some reason Nokia cut back on the available colors for the Lumia 1020, losing the red, grey and cyan (for now). Well here’s a render of the 1020 in a beautiful matte cyan to get your creative juices flowing, what do you think is it hot?

(hell maybe someone from Nokia will read this…. voice your love down below).1fhXWTtdyuYk1vReddit

100 video samples from Nokia Lumia 1020 PureView. mmmmm!

sample 1020Quick heads up. GSMArena linked to this channel which features a hundred video samples it seems from the Nokia Lumia 1020.

I’ve only watched a few and don’t have time to assess it at the moment as I have to dash out to get my mac fixed :( . Anyway, I’m immediately liking the lack of pulsing continuous AF which annoyed me about my 920. Not sure if this unit is proto.

The channel is here: https://www.youtube.com/user/Nokia2928/videos?flow=grid&view=0&sort=p

The stabilisation looked great. I asked one of the Nokia peeps if it was better than the one in the 920, which they weren’t too quick to say yes. NokConv has a recent post saying it’s the next gen and looking at these videos the stabilisation looks great, and to me, better than the 920.

GSMA is a fan too:

The video stabilization looked top notch and performed just as well when we took the Lumia 1020 for a spin ourselves. We are also pleased to report that the blurring along the right side of the frame, which is visible on the samples wasn’t present on our unit so it is definitely due to a imperfect prototype unit.

Just like the still images, the videos produced by the Lumia 1020 are beyond the capabilities of any other smartphone on the market. The detail levels are top notch, the colors are extremely pleasing and the dynamic range simply cannot be achieved with a smaller sensor. The 4x zoom when recording 1080p video is a more than welcome bonus, too.

GSM Arena: Nokia Lumia 1020 camera in a class of its own, no other high end smartphone camera comes close

Someone commented that the Nokia Lumia 1020 was apparently branded by GSM Arena as having the same image quality as a SGSIV.

So when I went to check it out, I was pleased to see this wasn’t the case.

As far as image quality is concerned, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is really in a class of its own. None of the other high-end smartphones can come even close to the amount of resolved detail that the huge pixel-dense sensor and the 6-element ZEISS lens deliver. The dynamic range is also much higher than any other flagship can offer. At full resolution (38 MP or 34MP) the noise levels are comparable to those of the 13MP Galaxy S4, which is a pretty great achievement given how much more detail you get

GSM Arena is slightly concerned about the more punchy colours and say the 808 produced more natural colours (possibly due to the charge of Damian Dinning wanting the Pure in PureView :) ). Whilst camera comparisons by GSM Arena did favour natural colours, it wasn’t always the case, with many liking the saturation in the iPhone (hence why the Lumia WP8s have gone that way, if a little too much. Hopefully it’s not as out there and Nokia might perhaps give at least two options. Natural and Vivid, with the latter being default)

Microsoft Store to Stock both 32 GB and 64 GB variants of Lumia 1020 + Free Camera Grip With Purchase

Here’s some great news for anyone who was dismayed by the 32 GB on board storage of the Lumia 1020 (and the lack of Micro SD card). According to the spec sheet on the official Microsoft Store they will indeed stock both the regular 32 GB variant, as well as a 64 GB variant. And the good news doesn’t stop there, if you buy your Lumia 1020 from the Microsoft store you get to score a free camera grip/extended battery (with a two year contract of course), that’s a pretty sweet deal.

Mark your calendars guys, pre-orders open on July 16th, all that’s left now is the difficult choice of which color to get… and the matter of those $300.
