Posted: 25 Jan 2013 10:31 PM PST

AMD Kabini APU will be released during June 2013

AMD is working on Kabini APU and it is expected to reach the market in few weeks. It is considered as world’s first x86-based SoC with its four cores and AMD promise that Kabini will yield 80% higher efficiency than Brazos 2.0 Zacate APU. The recent news is on chipset of AMD Kabini APU, Yangtze and today some of the details of chipset got leaked. It is anticipated that Kabini APU and Yangtze chipsets will make their appearance during June 2013 on desktops, all-in-ones, notebooks and Ultrathins. Both quad-core and dual-core Kabini chips will have 15W to 25W TDP depending on the number of cores. It is claimed that Jaguar cores will have increased speed than E-series Bobcat 40nm cores and will use 28nm entry level parts that will make AMD more successful.

Features of AMD Kabini APU and AMD Yangtze chipset

The new AMD essential desktop chip codenamed Kabini will be capable of killing any Intel Atoms and will feature

  • AMD Turbo Core overclocking technology
  • DirectX 11.1 enabled Radeon 8000 series graphics
  • DDR3 1866 support

The chipset behind Kabini is codenamed as Yangtze is expected to use AMD Fusion platform and will feature

  • 2 SATA 6Gb/s ports for modern hard drives and SSDs
  • 2 USB 3.0 ports
  • Protocol like xHCI 1.0 and SD / SDIO 3.0 SD card support

Specifications of AMD Richland APU got leaked

New data on AMD Richland APU revealed

A few days ago, AMD has unveiled Richland APU, which promises to yield 10 to 12%, improved CPU power and 20-40% improved GPU power than current A-5000 Series Trinity APU. Today, the information leaked by VR-Zone on Richland APU totally complements the information leaked a few days ago. It has claimed that AMD Richland APU will be based on Piledriver micro-architecture and IGP will be based on the Graphics Core Next architecture that was used in Radeon HD 7000 Series GPUs. But the previous leaks suggest that the IGP will be based on VLIW4 graphics architecture. Moreover, Richland APU will use GCN graphics and integrated DDR3-2133 memory controller that will offer significantly higher graphics performance than Trinity.

AMD Richland APU specifications:

The new “Richland” desktop APU will consist of four quad-core parts, and a pair of dual-core parts.

  • One quad-core A10-6800K part will be at top end and feature a built in Radeon HD 8670D mobile GPU with a TDP of 100W. It will come with unlocked CPU multipliers and GPU stream to unlock extreme overclocking and hence will be called as K part of unit.
  • Second quad-core A8-6600K part will feature a built in Radeon HD 8570D integrated graphics with a TDP of 100W. It will come with unlocked multipliers for overclocking.
  • Third quad-core A10-6700 part will be equipped with Radeon HD 8670D GPU with a TDP of 65W. It will have non-K design and will have low clock speed in order to maintain power consumption at low level
  • Third quad-core A8-6500 part will be equipped with Radeon HD 8570D GPU with a TDP of 65W. It will also have non-K design and will have low clock speed in order to maintain power consumption at low level
  • First dual core part will be A6-6400K equipped with Radeon HD 8470D integrated graphics of 65W TDP
  • Second dual core part will be A4-6300 featuring Radeon HD 8430D integrated graphics of 65W TDP

Features of Bolton chipset of AMD Richland APU

The Richland Chip or rather codenamed ‘Bolton FCH’, is set to support following features:

  • Bolton-D4 “A88X” to support up to eight SATA 6GB/s devices with an additional 4 USB 3.0 ports and 14 USB 2.0 ports.
  • Bolton-D3 “A78″ to support 6 SATA-III 6Gb / s devices with an additional USB 3.0 ports.

AMD has reportedly decided to replace the old A55 chipset for A68 chipset (SATA-III + 3 USB 3.0), launched by the Brazos 2.0 platform, which will become the new low-end chipset for AMD’s Fusion platform.

AMD Richland APU release date

It is notable that Richland APUs will be compatible with existing FM2 motherboard socket and it requires only a BIOS update from the card manufacturer. Richland APU will be using 32 nm process and Piledriver CPU architecture similar to Trinity APU, but will feature updated Radeon HD 8000 series GPUs, higher clock speeds and faster DDR3-2133MHz dual-channel memory controller than Trinity. We can expect PC with Richland APU in Q2 of 2013.

AMD Radeon HD 8000 series graphics cards will be launched in Q1 of 2013

Financial report of AMD revealed

During the last conference, AMD has announced its financial results and at the same event it has also spoke about its plans to launch new products. The fourth quarter of last year was little troublesome for AMD and the company suffered an operating loss of $422 million / 317.22 million Euro. The revenue of $1.16 was also lower on quarter, by 9%, and 32% below the sum recorded in Q4 2011. AMD keeps on changing its staffs in recent days in order to increase its revenue and now AMD is planning to launch its new AMD Radeon HD 8000 series graphics cards within the Q1 of 2013. It has been claimed that AMD is aiming to achieve increased revenue after the launch of AMD Radeon HD 8000 series graphics cards.

AMD Radeon HD 8000 series graphics card is most awaited

For a long time, AMD is working on AMD Radeon HD 8000 series graphics cards code-named as Sea Islands. AMD has created more curiosity among users and they are eager to know the exact specifications and release date of AMD Radeon HD 8000 series cards. It is still anticipated that, AMD will launch AMD Radeon HD 8000 cards immediately after Nvidia launches its GK110-based GeForce Titan card.

The FirePro S10000 is merely the latest dual-GPU that is server-focused version of the W9000. It greatly increases overall compute power and delivers 5.91 TFLOPs of single precision calculations and 1.48 TFLOPS of dual precision performance in a single PCIe 3.0 card with 6GB of GDDR5 RAM. AMD has decided to include dual GPU in the race again, with AMD Radeon HD 8000. The timing is not terrible, but AMD Radeon HD 7000 series are competitive with current video card solutions from Nvidia. Like AMD, Nvidia is waiting  to launch its next generation Kepler GPU in market.
