Portico OTA Update Now Rolling out to Global Lumia 920s and 820s Posted: 17 Jan 2013 10:50 AM PST We all cried a little inside when Nokia said that the rest of the world would have to wait till February to get the Poritco update for the Lumia 920 and 820. An update that besides increasing stability; would most importantly fix the camera fuzziness issue on the 920. Well it seems that Nokia hear our cries and have pushed out the update earlier than expected; as of right now the update has begun rolling out in an orderly manner to devices across the globe.
Unfortunately the update is yet to be available on my (UK origin but unbranded) Red Lumia 920, but that shouldn’t deter you from checking for yourself. To see if an update is available head over to settings–> phone update-> Check for updates. Sooooo anyone get it? (if so let us know your device origin and type please) |
Where’s My Water and Where’s My Perry- Hit Disney Games Free to Download! Posted: 17 Jan 2013 10:14 AM PST The recently released Disney hit games, Where’s my Water, and Where’s My Perry, are now free to download on the WP marketplace (for a limited time I assume). The apps were both previously priced at $0.99 but are now at the low low price of free! Interestingly the featured game section on the phone shows the price as $.99 while online it shows as free; regardless when you open the app it allows you tow download it instantly without paying so it’s all good! Pick them up down below:

“Extras + info” Update for WP8; Loses the Charger Disconnected Notification Posted: 17 Jan 2013 10:09 AM PST A new update for the Lumia 920 (and probably the 820) has just popped up, the update is to the “Extras +info” which is Windows Phone for “under the hood changes that save you from a minor software update”. This latest update (version 1.7.0.173.) brings a couple minor changes, most noticeable of which is that the phone no longer emits a “no longer charging” notification hen fully charged or disconnected from the charger. The other changes noticed by the folks over at WPC are:
Interestingly the “no longer charging beep” was actually a Nokia added feature to the OS (I always assumed it was a WP feature); and it’s possible it was removed due to the 3-5 second delay between disconnecting the charger and the actual notification. I kinda liked it :/ *anyone else notice that one of these random updates fixed some of the stability issues on WP8 (even without getting portico)? My 920 has been rock solid for the past two weeks; with no crashes at all; whatever fixed it I’m happy.

Nokia US Smashes SGSIII in Nokia Lumia Pitching Machine Challenge – 920, Unharmed. Posted: 17 Jan 2013 04:05 AM PST Interesting way to demo the robust build of the Nokia Lumia 920 – aim a pitching machine at it (and a competitor handset). Above is what happens when you do it to a SGSIII And a Lumia below. It’s still recording. Apparently no scratches. Note the disclaimer message. Nokia’s learnt. Ha.
I also liked the bits filmed by the 920 itself. Video quality is really good.

Posted: 17 Jan 2013 03:43 AM PST In response to consumer demand, more colours are making their way to Rogers Canada, coming in Yellow, Red and White in addition to the black.
These are said to be available in the coming weeks, and are actually available for existing customers through the Rogers Reservation System. Furthermore, you can also win a Nokia Lumia 920 in those bright colours by leaving a comment at the Rogers Blogpost.
Cheers stylinred for the tip! |
GSM Arena compares Nokia 808 PureView against Samsung Galaxy Camera Posted: 17 Jan 2013 03:36 AM PST GSM Arena have put the Nokia 808 PureView head to head against the Samsung Galaxy Camera (the SGSIII sans phone + camera shoved in)
GC: 128.7 x 70.8 x 19.1 mm, 300g (I wonder if other reviews complain about this) 808: 123.9 x 60.2 x 13.9, 169g. The sensor in the 808 is 3 and a half times the size of that found in the heftier Galaxy Camera. GC is good. But as GSM Arena notes, it’s bigger than some Micro four thirds cameras and just as pricey. Though with Android apps and WiFi-3G upload, it’s good for social photographers. I just can’t wait for the 808 level imaging to reach the masses if Nokia ever manages to get it into Lumia. Possibly with some OIS assistance too :p Cheers Peter L and Alvester for the tip!

Nokia Audio Updated for Nokia Lumia (WP8)… Posted: 17 Jan 2013 03:22 AM PST Quick heads up for Nokia Lumia (WP8?) owners, the Nokia Audio app is updated, 15/01/2013 v1.2.1.4. It says that with this update, you will get Audio leveling feature to set the same playback volume for all music and video tracks. Or not. If that was already in the last update I don’t know what this one provides. Go to the store app and select update.
