Lumia 920T and HTC8S Both Have Keep WiFi on When Locked Feature Posted: 07 Dec 2012 10:20 AM PST One of the largest features that has been demanded by WP users and fans is the ability to keep the WiFi activated on the device when the screen is locked. Interestingly this feature is also available on the HTC8S so it’s possible to assume that this is not an OEM addition, but an actual fix from Microsoft. The Lumia 920t also has a call blocking/intercepting feature, hopefully we’ll see these features coming to other WP8 devices soon enough. Thanks for the tip @arungprasad |
Whatsapp For WP8 On The Way; 6X Faster + New Emojii To Come Posted: 07 Dec 2012 07:54 AM PST Recently the Wp8 version of Whatsapp was pulled from the WP marketplace, leaving users a bit distraught; as Whatsapp has become a standard for messaging in most countries without unlimited texting plans. Therefore one of the folks at welovewp.hk emailed the developers team asking for an update, with which the replied that:
Hopefully the newer version of whatsapp will live up to this 6x faster, since unfortunately the WP7 version still has a couple bugs, mainly the slow launch times. Also mentioned was the background Audio API which allows Whatsapp to stay connected to the WiFi when the screen is locked, although it is annoying it does serve a purpose to those without push notifications; and will stay included until Microsoft fixes this themselves. |
Lumia 920 & 820 Pre-Orders in Malaysia Now Open; ($654 & $523) Posted: 07 Dec 2012 07:43 AM PST Nokia Malaysia’s Facebook page has just announced that starting tomorrow, both the Lumia 920 and 820 will be available to Pre-Order. The 920 is listed at RM1,999 ($654) and the 820 for RM1,599 ($523), unfortunately though there was no mention of when they will be available/delivered, but pre-orders are a good sign of progress, right? Edit: one of our readers mentions that he stopped by the Nokia store in Malaysia, where they listed the arrival/sale date as December 20th; so not much more to wait guys. |
Microsoft Details the Magic Behind Windows Phone’s Amazing Keyboard Posted: 07 Dec 2012 06:02 AM PST Although I have yet to use WP8 the one aspect I haven’t heard any complaints about is the keyboard (keep in mind we’ve heard some ridiculous complaints such as “I can’t hold the phone in my hand for too long”). Of course if the WP8 keyboard is anything like WP7′s then it’s obvious why no-ones complaining. In a BlogPost on blog.Windows.com the people behind WP’s keyboard went into details about the magic behind the great Keyboard. First off WP8 brings a new feature called “Word Flow” which watches, learns and then predicts what you’re going to type next based on your typing history. With Microsoft boasting a 94% accurate autocorrect score, out of the box; not too shabby eh? They also detailed the different key “target locations” which makes some keys have a virtual real estate larger than others, depending on how common they’re used:
All this is pretty amazing, but on the off chance that someone who can do something about it is reading, where is my haptic feedback!!??? Also why one earth can’t I edit my custom dictionary? I once accidentally added TRUE as a word, and now every-time I type true, it goes into full caps rage mode. |
Ask Ziggy Now Available for WP8 Posted: 07 Dec 2012 05:49 AM PST The leading voice control app for Windows Phone, Ask Ziggy has been updated to support WP8, bringing with it alongside some bug fixes a new Speech to text option. In all honestly I was disappointed with Microsoft’s offerings regarding voice control in WP8, I know that there will be future updates but I was really hoping for offline voice dictation and full voice control, hopefully it’ll come soon enough. Check out Jay’s review of Ask Ziggy for WP7.5 in the video down below:

Skype Finally Officially Available for 808 PureView and Other Symbian Devices Posted: 07 Dec 2012 03:18 AM PST Quick update since I’m so excited about this, Skype has finally been pushed out for Belle FP1/FP2 devices including the wonderful 808 Pureview. So far the app looks like the old one did, will let you know if I spot anything new.
Thanks for the tip stephenquin58 |
Lumia 822 Listed for 1 Cent on Amazon Wireless Posted: 07 Dec 2012 01:06 AM PST Following both the Lumia 820 and the 920 the 822 from Verizon has been cut down to 1 cent on Amazon Wireless. The new discount is a huge relief from the previous quite expensive $150 price tag, hopefully this will help move a couple more units.. CNET’s 2012 Holiday Gift Guide puts Nokia Lumia 920 as #1 Best High end Smartphone Posted: 06 Dec 2012 11:36 PM PST The most powerful, feature rich Windows Phone according to CNET. Heavy and thick? Not at all :p In the best high end smartphone category we meet the innovative Nokia Lumia 920.
CNet wants a few more settings in the camera to adjust their view of ‘overhyped’. Well, for low light, it certainly performs much in the way of witchcraft to absorb light from the faintest places like bulbasaur’s solarbeam. Cheers Ricardo for the tip! |
