White, Black & Red Lumia 920 Back in Stock at Amazon Wireless; Listed at $39.99 Posted: 15 Dec 2012 10:11 AM PST After being out of stock for almost a month on Amazon Wireless, the Lumia 920 has been restocked in Black, White and Red. The Cyan and the Yellow are still indefinitely out of stock. Get em while they last guys (My advice: get red).
Thanks for the tip James Scott |
Lumia 920 To Receive Software Update “This Month” Posted: 15 Dec 2012 09:45 AM PST Nokia Care US have been kind enough to let us know that Microsoft will be releasing a soft ware update for the Lumia 920 (820 as well?) sometime this month. Presumably this update will match the one that recently came to the HTC 8X earlier this week. There isn’t much to add really, but we are already halfway through December, so whatever this Software update brings, it shouldn’t be too far off.

Cyan Overload? Is There Such Thing As Too Much Cyan? Posted: 15 Dec 2012 04:09 AM PST Antoine from twitter just tweeted a picture of his “collection”
Personally I’m not a big fan of solid color collections, sure the cyan is great (I loved my 800 in Cyan) but I also love a good helping of contrast, for example I plan on getting a Black fatboy Charging pillow for my red 920, just to give it a bit “spzaz”. What about you guys? Solid colors or mix and match? (BTW I only have two phones that are the same color- the 808 and the N9, both in black) |
Lord Alan Sugar’s Nokia Lumia 920 on Stephen Fry: Gadget Man Posted: 15 Dec 2012 03:35 AM PST
My housemate and I were catching up on Stephen Fry’s Channel 4 show, “Gadget Man” which guest starred Lord Alan Sugar from The Apprentice. What caught my eye was that when they started talking about Smartphones, Stephen Fry pulled out the Nokia Lumia 920 (black) which he says at the time of filming was the first one in Britain (whilst introducing Nokia as the Second biggest phone manufacturer in the world – hey, second is still awesome).
Oddly, Stephen calls Windows Phone 8, Windows 8. What irks me even more was the upload to twitter challenge to see how intuitive the phone is. You don’t really need a separate client to begin twitter on Lumia. It’s built in. On the upside, somehow against the Note II (lol, which is called Notebook II in the video :/) Stephen still declares Lord Sugar as the winner of the challenge (despite the hiccup in forgetting his pasword and not finding the underscore on the keyboard – erm press shift?). It’s because Stephen says these days, you don’t expect to use a manual, you expect things to be easy to use and intuitive. What’s funny is that although Lord Sugar says he doesn’t know how to download apps, when going on mobile twitter in the browser, it prompts you to download the app for Windows Phone. Though I did find it strange that Lord Sugar could work out how to take a picture (it’s so simple – just tap the screen or use the camera button). I like that Stephen Fry mentions that the 920 does have optical image stabilisation. This is one of the tweets from October 19th.

App Updates: Nokia music, Nokia Reading, Nokia Drive, Nokia Transport (WP8 & WP7), Facebook for WP8 Posted: 15 Dec 2012 02:25 AM PST Nokia have pushed out a bunch of updates for their apps, including Nokia Music, Maps, Transport, Drive have all been updated (Drive and transport for WP7 were also updated). Although there aren’t any changelogs to go on; Nokia Drive now has a battery saver supports that helps cut sown on the battery drainage while driving, or while the app is running in the background. Nokia Music also received an update that allows you to download album art, download it and set it as wallpaper. The official facebook app was also updated, although I can’t find anything new (possibly the largest stile size which now shows your cover photo and latest status?- or has that always been there?); regardless plenty of updates to enjoy, so go get em.

How To Transfer Your Zune Playlists to Your New WP8 Lumia Posted: 15 Dec 2012 02:13 AM PST WP8 is great, it fixes a lot of issues that people held against the first line-up of Lumias, mainly the low resolution screens and limited hardware differentiation. Another thing WP8 fixed is that it finally got rid of Zune (Fist pump!), zune was slow, clunky and a RAM eater; now with WP8 you can manage directly by some Drag & Drop usage or through the WP8 connector app for Windows 8. Unfortunately that means that those playlists you spent so much time organizing on Zune aren’t compatible with the Windows 8 Connector app. The process is actually quite simple (but I had no idea how to do it, which is why I’m hoping this guide might help others out)- anyways your Zune playlists will be saved as a “.ZPL” file so simply search for “zpl” on your PC and open the file location. After that simply rename the Playlist “Justin_Beiber_Is_My_Life.ZPL” tp ”Justin_Beiber_Is_My_Life.WPL“; once that’s done the playlist will be detectable by Windows Media Player, which can be used to sync this playlist with your Lumia under the Sync tab: And presto! all done! * I realize this isn’t an issue for most people, but hopefully it’ll help the few who need it.

Video: Whatsapp for WP8 Vs. Wp7 Version Posted: 15 Dec 2012 01:31 AM PST
Whatsapp is finally back on the market for WP8 devices, the developers had promised an application that was 6X faster than the WP 7 version, so is it?
The app itself is definitely much faster, I don’t know if this is due to WP8 being faster in general, or the folks over at whatsapp doing some tweaking; either way its great. However it still is missing the large tile size (double tile) as well as notification support on lockscreen, which honestly is a must now. Also as noted the Emojii have been removed from this version, although it could be making way for the improved emojii promised in a future update. In case you can’t find it in the store you might have better luck scanning the QR code below: |
Whatsapp Now Available for WP8! Tog et the app just search int he marketplace, or my new favorite way is to use the capacitive search button (bing) where it will pop up as your first result as seen above. Enjoy. Official: Nokia Lumia 505; 8MP Camera, WP 7.8, 3.7″ Screen Posted: 15 Dec 2012 12:15 AM PST Fresh off the leaks, the Lumia 505 WP 7.8 device has just been made official by Nokia. The Lumia 505 comes rocking WP7.8, a 3.7″ screen (Wvga- WP 7.x Standard), an 8 MP camera and a 1300Ma battery. The 505 will be available in 3 colors: Magenta, Black and Red. Memory wise the 505 packs 256MB internal memory (like the 610?) and 4 GB of mass memory. Specs aside (although the 8Mp should be interesting) the design is once again stellar; it seems to mimic the 820′s design which is said to be an improvement of the “fabula” design, so at least we’re seeing some new designs without losing the beauty that originated in the N9.
