Indian Variant of Lumia 920 Supports 9 LTE Frequencies, More than All Other Variants & iPhones

With the launch of the Lumia 920 in India drawing inevitably near, some more info has appeared about the 920. Mainly that it supports 9 different LTE frequencies, 4 more than Apple’s CDMA iPhone and 6 & 4 more than the US and UK version respectively. It’s pretty interesting to see minor differences between the multiple variants, but keep in mind that lack of LTE compatibility in China cost Apple big time as they lost China Unicom since they didn’t match their frequencies.

NDTV and Hindustan Times Reviews the Nokia Lumia 920/820 (available in India, Jan 15?)

Screen Shot 2012-12-26 at 14.22.42The ‘slick, fast, and very quick’ Nokia Lumia 920 and 820 have been reviewed by NDTV. They’ve been anticipating both handsets for some time and it’s due in India some time in January (rumours say first week).

It seems a little bit like rolling of the spec sheet more than a review though.

Lumia 620 Bests Both The SGS 3 and The HTC 8S in Browser Benchmarks

The Lumia 620 is certainly an interesting device, in fact some people are calling it more important to Nokia than the Lumia 920 (claiming that it will outsell the 920 with ease). That remains to be seen once the 620 launches early next year (not that far off now). However the folks at GSMArena have a 620 lying around which they’ve been playing with; and so far it’s quite impressive. The simplest example being that this under powered (relatively) Windows Phone bests both the monstrous Galaxy S3 (arguably the best Android device currently available) as well as the similarly specced HTC 8 S; which has the same ram, processor, screen resolution and almost everything else.

In the benchmark seen above the 620 easily bests the 8S in both tests, while narrowly beating out the S3 in the first and absolutely destroying it in the second; what’s interesting to me is the difference between the 620 and the 8S even though they both have the same internals, yet it’s not an even matchup; since I’m not the most technical person on the planet, does anyone care to explain how similar internals don’t result in similar performance?

A couple of weeks or so ago, Engadget reported that the new update for the Nokia Lumia 920 offers (amongst some other things) a much welcomed camera update.

The front facing camera seems to have improved as well.

Screen Shot 2012-12-26 at 13.14.48I’m not sure the front facing camera on my 920 is as bad as the one above. Regardless, I can’t wait to get mine updated. For North America, for some handsets the update has been available. But for the rest of the world, we get to wait until February 2013.

$65 Million payment by RIM to Nokia as part of Patent Dispute Settlement?

As previously reported, Nokia has settled their patent dispute with RIM, though precise details are still unknown and ‘confidential’ according to the press release.

The financial structure of the agreement includes a one-time payment and on-going payments, all from RIM to Nokia.

A document from RIM suggests that the one time payment may be about $65 Million which NokiaPowerUser speculates might be a yearly payment to Nokia.

On December 21, 2012, Nokia and RIM announced that they have entered into a new patent license agreement. The agreement will result in the settlement of all patent litigation between the companies and Nokia's dismissal of all pending actions in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Germany. The financial structure of the agreement includes a lump sum €50 million (approximately $65 million) one-time payment, which has been recorded in the Company's consolidated statement of operations in the third quarter of fiscal 2013.

MATS HUMMELSGerman footballer, Mats Hummels wished his fans a Merry Christmas yesterday on his facebook, posing with the luscious Nokia Lumia 920 in Yellow. He also wore a pair of headphones which I bed he’d rather were the Yellow Purity Pros from Nokia, since he did already make the effort in wearing yellow over ear headphones. It wouldn’t have been any other combination other than black and yellow since those are the colours of BVB.
