Name that Nokia: Rita Ora – “Shine Ya Light” Posted: 21 Dec 2012 03:35 PM PST I was watching [V] (music video channel) yesterday and saw a Nokia device appear a fair few times during the video. In fact, the Music Video for Rita Ora’s “Shine Ya Light” opens with a Nokia on screen (image above). We then see it again a few minutes later, as well as a white version towards the end. Not sure if I found another one, but look at the image below in the right hand side in Red. Is that a Nokia too? It looks like it has the Fabula Camera plate. Source: YouTube |
BetaLabs Publishes WiFI Update for Belle FP1 Devices Posted: 21 Dec 2012 05:57 AM PST Previously I noted that my 808 had some issues connecting/maintaining a connection to my home WiFi connection, which some of you pointed out has been a constant bug in Symbian since the start. Beta Labs have published a WiFi update for all FP1 device that fixes some “WiFI interoperability issues” which should hopefully settle the matter:
You can download the update (as a .sis file) onto your compatible device from HERE and install it directly (NOTE: You need to disconnect your Device’s WiFi before installing the update).

Posted: 21 Dec 2012 05:51 AM PST Over the past couple of days my Lumia 920 has been acting very strange, in a very bad way. Tile shortcuts would crash and redirect me to the homescreen, push notifications would be delayed, text messages fail to send, Caller ID no longer works (outgoing and incoming calls show up as unknown numbers), Email would get stuck syncing; and a boat load of problems. At first I attributed all these to buggy OS that I could only hope to be resolved in the upcoming update, however a new “symptom” showed up where the phone would refuse to sign into chat. Including Facebook chat and Rooms chat, interestingly this wasn’t limited to the phone but using the Live ID from anywhere including the desktop client on Windows 8 and the browser chat on outlook.com would refuse to sign in. Apparently others have had this problem and the most likely culprit is Skype, a thread posted on the Skype discussion forum takes the blame stating a simple solution it Uninstall Skype force refresh your accounts (Settings–> account–> Long press on each account & refresh, then Reboot and if you like re-install Skype.
Unfortunately although the symptoms fit my device perfectly, the solution did not work. Yesterday I temporarily fixed the issue by forcing all accounts to sign out (by changing the password) then signing in again, that only worked for a couple of hours (or less) before it went back to failing to connect. If the official solution did not work for you try these alternate fixes that hopefully might fix your problems (although they didn’t fix mine):
Hopefully that’ll fix it for anyone who has the same issue, and if anyone has a second possible fix do let us know in the comments down below. Read the official discussion thread at Skype discussions and Microsoft forums here: |
Friday LOL: 21.12.12 – End of the World #Nokia Posted: 21 Dec 2012 03:27 AM PST Today, the world is supposedly going to end. 21st of December, 2012. – I don’t recall precisely what time but it’s supposedly in a few hours. An appropriate time as any for these pictures. Will it be the destroyer or the saviour? :p Perhaps it was just end of the world for the main forms of life at the time. Now it’s our turn. Hat tip to Incognito for the tumblr link.

Lumia 620′s Internals Detailed; Shows Off Dual Microphones Posted: 21 Dec 2012 01:32 AM PST Here we have a couple of pictures of the Lumia 620′s internals; we can see the usual assortment of buttons and antennas. Interestingly though the lowest end WP8 device is also rocking a second microphone; although it’s possible that it still won’t record in Stereo/Surround (like the 920 which is stuck in Mono at the moment). But of course if you’re looking for crazy recording look no further than the 808′s rich recording; which has just been discounted for Christmas. |
Video: Detailed Nokia Music Walk-through on WP8 Posted: 21 Dec 2012 01:23 AM PST Yesterday we saw a couple videos by Dean showing off Nokia music and some of the awesomeness it has to offer, well today my buddy SamJPullen has posted a video showing even more awesome features and a detailed walk-through of Nokia music itself, including the premade Mixes/playlists and much more.

Video: Explore the world with Nokia Lumia with Windows Phone 8 Posted: 21 Dec 2012 01:19 AM PST This appears to be a compilation of some previous Nokia Lumia promos. It’s another one of their ‘arty’ styles, lots of short clips like the N9 seconds video. Do you know what’s going on? I guess I can relax a bit more because the nature and topic of this video is about exploring the world. But still, I have my reservations about these videos. What is the viewer left with with regards to their perception and understanding of Nokia products?

Nokia and RIM Enter Patent Licensing Agreement; RIM to Pay Settlement Fee + Royalties Posted: 21 Dec 2012 01:15 AM PST In a recent press release Nokia has announced that they have reached a settlement with RIM, over the multiple patent disputes that were undergoing (mainly the WiFi patents). Although no figures were released RIm (similar to Apple’s settlement last year) will pay a one time settlement fee, plus ongoing royalties for the use of Nokia’s patent technology.

Bluetooth Sharing app for WP7.8 available at Marketplace Posted: 21 Dec 2012 01:13 AM PST
As promised by Nokia, they said they’d bring BT file sharing to Lumia as it wasn’t yet a standard feature for WP7. Whilst you’d need to have a WP7.8 device (upgrades coming soon or you can install get the ROM on Navifirm at your own risk). The app is available at the store link below. I’m not sure if this will integrate nicely into the share options or whether you have to open up the app specifically. There’s a section specifically for Pictures/Files. I am not sure either what file limitations if any are present.

Note: BT file sharing (and NFC tap to share) is already available for WP8 Lumia by default. Cheers Viipottaja for the tip! |
