Lumia 928 for $30 on Contract at Amazon Posted: 19 Jun 2013 02:53 PM PDT For anyone interested in the Lumia 928 Amazon have it for $29.99 on contract (of course), so you can grab one from the link below (white or black): And hey while you’re at it, you really can’t go wrong with a 52 cent case (especially since you’re already getting the free shipping right?) Black TPU Protector Case for Nokia Lumia 928
*note: There are some links for a $10 928 flying around, but be careful as they have some tricky fine print (including a $400 fine if you use the phone on another line, so it’s best to stay away from that).

Microsoft Was Talking With Nokia Regarding a Buyout, No More Though Posted: 19 Jun 2013 02:37 PM PDT Hot on the heels of Huawei saying they’d consider buying Nokia; then changing their minds all of a sudden; new details have emerged showing that Microsoft was actually talking with the folks at Nokia regarding buying out the devices division of the company. Apparently the deal fell through sometime last month after Nokia asked for too much money:
This is actually quite surprising to me seeing how the ideal time for an acquisition would’ve been a year or two ago, but now? What would Microsoft gain from buying Nokia? THey already have them pumping out great hardware dedicated to their OS, in fact the way I see it Microsoft has Nokia supporting them for next to nothing at the moment, why change that? Unless they feared Nokia switching away from WP… Interesting stuff.

Video: Nokia Lumia 925 vs HTC One. PureView > Ultrapixel Posted: 19 Jun 2013 11:31 AM PDT Quick comparison between the HTC One and Nokia Lumia 925. Note, if mentioning marketing stuff like ‘ultrapixel’ for HTC, then might be fair mentioning ‘PureView’ for the 925, eh? Kudos on Basil for chatting about both devices on the fly though. Nokia Lumia 925 performs better than the HTC One camera apparently. Just not as good as the Nokia Lumia 925. What happens when Nokia unleashes the ORIGINAL PureView for Lumia? Uh HTC. I’m really looking forward to Smart Camera.

Nokia Lumia 925 vs Nokia Lumia 920 vs Samsung Galaxy S4 vs HTC One. Camera Test Posted: 19 Jun 2013 10:27 AM PDT The Nokia Lumia 920 and Nokia Lumia 925 are pitted against the Samsung Galaxy S4 and HTC One. Each the respective flagship of the brand. The Nokia Lumia 925 is bar none the absolute best performer in low light, but also captures great detail in day time too, limited this time it seems by the mp count apparently :/ (vs 13mp in the SGSIV). If MP count detail is anything to go by, Nokia’s next flagship will wipe the floor with everyone. Wipe the floor. Like the 808 has been doing, but more current since this one should have MS’s advertising backing too.
We can still hope for camera improvements as the Amber update arrives for 920 and other lumia WP8. Cheers viipottaja for the tip! |
“Nokia EOS” aka 41MP Nokia WP Confirmed by Nokia Conversations!!! Posted: 19 Jun 2013 10:15 AM PDT In case anyone had any doubt what would be revealed in New York on July 11th 2013, well worry no more. Nokia Conversations have just outed the 41 MP camera, by way of 41 million reasons. It’s also the ‘zoom reinvented’ thing. Exciting stuff peeps. Cheers arts, pshoot, adam, jayadeep, beyazid, amish and karl for the tip! |
Video: Lumia 520 Gaming Performance Test Posted: 19 Jun 2013 08:12 AM PDT We’ve established that WP8 runs pretty smoothly even on the lowest device on the hardware spectrum, but what about actual gaming performance. True WP8 doesn’t have the more taxing games (but it’s getting there, with the inclusion of some of the more graphic intense games such as N.O.V.A 3). The other issue facing these limited hardware devices is the fact that some games aren’t optimized to run on them (namely Temple Run, and a few others that escape me); however the ones that do run seem to work just fine on this budget device, check out the video below:
The games run perfectly fine, and resume almost instantly (as seen in the video); I think the perceived lag in games (like in jetpack joyride) was mainly due to the inferior screen and lack of puremotion HD; over all though the 520 performs remarkably well (considering my expectations).

Nowei! Huawei says they have NO plans to buy Nokia Posted: 19 Jun 2013 04:57 AM PDT Yesterday, Chairman of Huawei’s consumer group supposedly indicated that Huawei was actively looking to buy out Nokia. Reuters now reports that is not the case.
Bill Plummer, Huawei’s VP for external affairs denies considering buying Nokia and has apparently ‘no plans to acquire Nokia’. Would MS even let that happen? Would Finland? Ideally no one would buy Nokia. Things look to be on the up for once. Nokia has apparently declined to comment. Some amusing comments from the previous post:

Video: Pelican Imaging, 3D Video with 3D model print function as well as Lytro Posted: 19 Jun 2013 04:41 AM PDT Whilst looking up Pelican Imaging, the start up which Nokia has investment in for its Lumia range, I came across a new video. Below, instead of showing off the Lytro style imaging where you can capture and alter the depth after taking a picture, it shows off 3D video. 3D video has been done before but not quite like this. This supposedly captures enough data to create 3D models which, something else Nokia is fond of, you can push into a 3D printer.
Note here about focusing on multiple subjects at the same time. It shouldn’t be too hard, given Nokia’s work on Nokia Smart Camera, to be able to blend in multiple scenes that are in focus.

White, Slim, Polycarbonate Nokia EOS shell spotted Posted: 19 Jun 2013 04:33 AM PDT Is this that deceptively slim Nokia EOS we’ve heard about? From the shells we’ve seen so far, they look pretty much like the 920 but with a hump. This one looks decisively slimmer or is that just the white and lighting? Reading the comments, it may be that the Aluminium EOS are said to be Nokia Phablets with the Pelican camera (Lytro Style, 16 lens) . Having said that, one of our readers pointed out that it looks like the photo of the aluminium EOS, the guy holding it has silver paint on their hands :/ Source: WMPU Cheers Prashant for the tip! |
