Ratings Agencies, Moody, Standard & Poor supposedly accepted money for higher ratings? Posted: 25 Jun 2013 01:04 PM PDT Not strictly Nokia related, but there had been some Nokia stories regarding the ratings of Nokia by the likes of Moody and Standard & Poor. A story on the Front page of Reddit hosted at Yahoo news indicates that these ratings agencies supposedly accepted money for higher ratings. This was specifically related however to a time before the financial crisis. Can’t be certain what happened after that.
I know very little of the subject but those in the comments who appear to know say this was apparently standard practice with a wide choice of ratings agencies (e.g. Fitch too – third of the ‘Big Three’) to pay for higher ratings. You may find this link helpful: Amusing comment, GOT reference. True in this context and also in phone marketing:

Discussion: Making the Switch to Windows Phone; How Hard Is It? Posted: 25 Jun 2013 12:58 PM PDT A couple days ago I posted a question on the Windows Phone subreddit about making the switch to Windows Phone, the point of which was to see what the hardest OS to leave was; and what features people missed most. I know a lot of our readers made the switch from a previous Nokia device, be it Meego or Symbian so it was interesting to see feedback from other OS users.

Posted: 25 Jun 2013 12:31 PM PDT A couple of related stories reported by WMPU. First up, whilst Q1 2013 European iPhone’s shipments is on the decline, -10% year on year, Windows Phone courtesy of Nokia is up 73%. Notably higher rate of growth than the market’s 12%. That’s roughly 1m WP for every 3.3M iOS – not bad. Secondly, Compal’s chairman says Q3 going to ramp up, with H2 being much better than the first half of the year. In addition to Android based KeyLime pie handsets, there’ll be some ‘advanced WP8′ units. Goldman Sachhs predicts this growth to be due to Nokia, Sony and Lenovo. The Nokia ‘EOS’ Lumia 1020 is expected to be officially announced in its 41MP glory by July 11th, availability heavens knows. A phablet Nokia is also expected, rumoured to be around the 6″ mark (not too crazy. We have 6.3 and 6.4″ phablets from Sammy and soon from Sony). Whilst these high end units raise the bar and the image of WP8, it’s the likes of the Nokia Lumia 520/620 and 720 that carve out marketshare. Cheers Derrek for the tip! |

Video: Front Facing Camera promo for Nokia Lumia 720 Posted: 25 Jun 2013 09:29 AM PDT Hey, it’s another one of those arty-airy Nokia ads to promote the front facing camera on the Nokia Lumia 720. What about group shots? That would help. Especially since Nokia seems to be understanding the youth crowd a little bit more (e.g. Zombie ad of people taking low light pictures in clubs, people prefer to take pictures with each other). Selfies are also good. They should use the instagram app, ‘Instance’ too.

Posted: 25 Jun 2013 09:21 AM PDT With MS as Nokia’s partner, and MS as the Technical partner for the Lions tour of Australia, Nokia made something to commemorate the occasion. One of Nokia’s top devices, made in red and yellow (as well as black/cyan/white/grey) is the Nokia Lumia 920 so Nokia wanted to get rugby mad fans to show their colours and support their team. There’s a limited number of these, some have been given to the Lions squad. But there’s 3 left of each colour, Red and Yellow, all engraved. @Nokia_UK are going to be giving them over the next 2 tests.
Cheers Nokia_Connects for the heads up! |

Expect the official unveiling on July 11th 2013. |
