4G vs 3G Downloading on Nokia Lumia 925 Posted: 09 Aug 2013 01:28 PM PDT Should you be lucky enough to get on a 4G Network with 4G signal, you can use the likes of the Nokia Lumia 925/920/820/625 /1020 to get super fast mobile data. Nokia UK have posted a real world demo whereby games are downloaded a lot faster. Here a 40MB game is downloaded in about 53 seconds over 4G, and 1:34 over 3G.

WP8 GDR3 Specifically designed for Nokia Lumia Phablet? [Instagram app ready] Posted: 09 Aug 2013 01:21 PM PDT
Not sure if this is in reference particularly to a Nokia phablet or phablet with WP in general but Tom Warren from TheVerge tweetsm “So Nokia is definitely working on a “phablet.” I don’t know the full details, but Windows Phone 8 GDR3 is specifically designed for it.”
The GDR3 features list seems to be not the most extensive, especially given it’s a year since WP8 was announced. To add to this, Tom has some more info at TheVerge
Also, not to mention the I thing (not apple) but Instagram…but Tom Warren confirms what was mentioned in an earlier Reddit thread (source of the first post) I’m too annoyed at Microsoft to reiterate the list of things WP8 is missing. At the start, the pace of development seemed much quicker. I’m hoping it’s more to do with the shut up and ship thing rather than MS shut up we have nothing. |
Windows Phone App Builder gets 30,000 apps built in 48 hours – build your own in four steps! Posted: 09 Aug 2013 12:59 PM PDT
Windows Phone have an app builder available that, based on the video tutorial, looks super simple to use. Reports from TechCrunch say that in the first 48 hours, 30,000 projects were started. It sounds a little like Ovi App Wizard. I hope despite it’s simplicity that good quality apps come of this and that it doesn’t clog the store like it did with Ovi/Nokia Store. Has anyone given this a go? Cheers Will for the tip! |

Video: Nokia Lumia 1020 vs DSLR (For a Phone, sharpness and clarity, it’s the best you’re gonna get) Posted: 09 Aug 2013 11:19 AM PDT
These guys based in the US are comparing the Nokia Lumia 1020 with a DSLR. It’s not meant to be a serious scientific comparison, just perhaps what amateur photographers might consider. Their conclusion? For the price of a good point and shoot, you also get a phone and one with a camera that’s the best you’re gonna get. Now that’s fortunately not news to us. Unanimous praises from all around the web crown this Nokia as the best on the market right now. ArsTechnica says it’s one to render point and shoots obsolete. I mean if you can carry your point and shoot all the time because it’s your phone, why not? We did a ‘quick test’ a while back with a 60D, the results surprising us too. I just noticed in the related videos it seems to have been reuploaded again and again and again haha. Lisa in her review for MobileTechReview said “Wow, this is as good as my Digital SLR”. Even to be considered in the same space as a DSLR is phenomenal praise. DSLR’s will obviously still have their uses. Point and shoots however, even generic camera phones are eating into their use time. What more when you have the likes of the 1020?

Smart use for Kids Corner: Instant Music Player @deano_42 Posted: 09 Aug 2013 09:51 AM PDT Kids Corner (KC). Swipe over to the right of your lock screen and you have a completely different homescreen for you to customize. And it isn’t just for kids. Here’s a new interesting way that someone at reddit has used it. Pinning favourite albums (or playlists if you wish) to the start screen. We tagged the Nokia Music Guru, Dean Pattrick in case he isn’t already doing this. Speaking of Nokia Music, whilst you can add it to KC, you can’t pin the playlists like you can with the main homescreen. Perhaps a work around soon? Same goes for anything you wanna pin within an app (e.g. Spotify) Others have turned it into a quick swipe game block (plus being in KC, you don’t get notifications and the silly search button is disabled from accidental presses) Here’s the lockscreen wallpaper as shared by the OP. Thailand, Indonesia and Vietnam surpasses 20% marketshare with Nokia Lumia Posted: 09 Aug 2013 09:27 AM PDT According to Jo Harlow, in Thailand, Indonesia, and Vietnam, Nokia Lumia have exceeded 20% marketshare.
Despite MS’s slow progress, Nokia is clawing back some traction. What more if MS was to actually improve WP at the rate we all expect them to and know they actually could if they actually bothered? Harlow also spoke about the 1020

Nokia Lumia 1020, coming to O2 UK in September Posted: 09 Aug 2013 09:06 AM PDT The beastly cameraphone king that is Nokia Lumia 1020 is coming to O2-UK in September. It’s now listed on their coming soon page. Three also has it. But I can’t seem to find any dates. As for Vodafone, the only new Lumia they have is the 625. And EE? Their coming soon page is a sign up screen it seems. Update: O2-Ireland also has the 1020 http://www.o2online.ie/o2/shop/coming-soon/ (Cheers beefiron for the heads up!) Cheers Will for the tip. @NokiaUS Influencers Special 1020 Care Package Unboxed Posted: 09 Aug 2013 06:09 AM PDT Last week we posted about NokiaUS sending out some special “care packages” to influencers in the US (unfortunately none of the MNB three are actually in the US so we didn’t get any love). but Jimmy at Nokia Innovation got one and did an unboxing of the cool package, check it out below: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=xdnr-VvpJHQ
If you pause it at the little card it seems there’s some sort of special service they have planned for the influencers as it tells them to call a secret number while setting it up to talk to a VIP line.. Juicy. Once again it’s nice to see Nokia giving back to the community of bloggers and fans out there that love them so much (I’m not even going to pretend that I’m not dying of jealousy). check out some pics and a bit more background info at Nokia Innovation |
