The Nokia N8 – Nokia did soo much with it but who really knew? Posted: 19 Aug 2013 02:46 PM PDT I was just reading the post which Ali (Aliqudsi) just wrote about the "World Premiere" Event in moscow, and it got me thinking… Although most people are thinking new devices, and they are probably right, when I heard “world premier”, all that came to mind is movies, and when I think Nokia and movies, I think of the things which my old phone, the Nokia N8 had done, maybe not my phone personally but the phone in general. I miss my N8, it was stolen on a night out just before the 808 Pureview came out! Anyway, not soo long ago, Nokia really made a push with this 12MP shooter, a phone which supported HD (720p) video recording, and although it wasn’t the first phone to do so, in true Nokia style, they only released a 720p video capability on a phone when they knew it was done right, unlike other manufacturers! The Nokia N8 was showed off by Nokia many times after it launched back in 2010, and some of my favourites are below (no particular order): 1) The world's smallest stop motion animation – Dot (shot on a Nokia N8) This one was not done by Nokia but by an independent production company which chose to make the movie using a Nokia N8. What make this even more interesting is that, as far as I am aware, this was all funded by private investors, and Nokia didn’t do a thing (except for give it a bit of publicity after the fact!) 5) “Olive” feature film (Shot entirely on a Nokia N8) If you didn’t know, Olive was even shown in cinemas!! So maybe, just maybe they have made another movie recorded just on the Lumia 1020, and this is what the world premier is, or go with everyone else’s theory of it being a new device which I suppose would be better. Either way, I hope now that the Lumia range is getting noticed, Nokia do some things like they did with the N8, to really show off the Lumia 1020, and to just show off what Nokia can do! p.s. comment below if you like this random post and I’ll try get back into it and do some more! |

Quick heads up on this time lapse from the Nokia 808 PureView. I’m on limited connection at the moment so I’m watching on 360p only.

Nokia to hold “World Premiere” Event in moscow on August 28th Posted: 19 Aug 2013 10:43 AM PDT We’ve heard plenty of rumors pointing towards a late September event by Nokia, one that will probably show off a new tablet and/or phablet. But before that happens Nokia have one more event to show off, a “world Premiere” being held in Moscow for something we have no idea about. The background of the invite shows some piano keys and the font colors (pink/grey) are classic Nokia music colors, but the Nokia music service has already been launched in Russia; and even so it wouldn’t be worthy of a “world premiere” tag. Perhaps we’ll witness a new feature from Nokia Music? It’s hard to think of something that Nokia music is missing that would warrant such an event, short of coming to other platforms that is, something Nokia have previously mentioned would never happen. So any ideas guys? |
6 Inch nokia Phablet in the Works, 20 Mp Camera in Tow; Codename “Bandit” Posted: 19 Aug 2013 09:31 AM PDT According to the Verge Nokia are working on releasing a quad core, 1080p 6 inch tablet later this year (something that matches our own sources word) new to the rumors spec sheet however is a 20 megapixel camera and a definite screen size of 6 inches. The device is said to be “thin and lightweight” with a polycarbonate body and a slight camera hump (similar to the 925). Speaking of which the rumor also mentions that the Lumia 925 will soon be available on more US carriers, not just T-Mobile. This should hopefully increase sales, but I don’t see it having much of an effect on boosting actual sales (given how all three major carriers have a variant of the 920) instead it’ll only give customers more options, which is always good.

Posted: 19 Aug 2013 03:00 AM PDT Hey guys, final bit of accessories stuff from the schedules posts today. This one is to show off the Sumo Sultan Bean Bag. Now the Nokia Connection? Nokia loves Bean Bags! They had them at Nokia World, Nokia Connects office has them, Nokia Lounge at Nokia HQ and of course, Nokia’s got a wireless charging accessory that is a mini bag. Around this time last year we showcased a bean bag from Sumo Lounge, filmed on the Nokia 808 PureView. It would have been interesting to do a similar video with the 1020 (with PureView) but of course, that’s not available yet in the UK and so we don’t have one. I got a couple of my housemates, Nick and Mary to demo this bean bag called Sumo Sultan. We were asked originally to try out the huge Emperor one but that wasn’t available in the UK yet either!
All pictures and videos here are taken on the Nokia Lumia 925 with Nokia Pro Cam App. Settings are completely in Auto as we were rushing to finish this and all the errands needed to do before moving to Blackburn for the next hospital placement. They’re also using both the Nokia Coloud Boom and Nokia Purity Pros. Which do you like the look of better? The Sumo Sultan is made of shredded foam, not technically the beans in a bean bag. It’s very soft and firm, more like a mattress really. As you can see in the pics, quite large, able to fit 2 comfortably or even 3-4 at a push. It’s heavy mind, like a mattress.
It’s big enough to sleep on.
Perfect for lounging about in the house. It’s one of the favourite pieces for movie nights. |

Quick heads up on the next unboxing accessories video. This time of the Nokia Wireless Charging Cover for the Nokia Lumia 925. It’s real easy to clip on, though a bit harder to take off. There’s a gap at the bottom to allow for sound of the back facing speaker to come out though it does still muffle the audio from that speaker.

Posted: 19 Aug 2013 01:30 AM PDT We were sent a case from the folks at Issentiel. These are premium genuine leather cases, and the one we have is for the Nokia Lumia 920.
It’s a great feeling, professional looking, top quality case for the Nokia Lumia 920. I think it fits the name of ‘Luxury Leather Case’. Even with the loud electric pikachu yellow 920, the black leather tones it down. It feels very solid and sturdy, like the phone part where you put the 920 in won’t break off like previous cases I or my friends with Lumias have used. This video unboxing was filmed on the Nokia Lumia 925 and ProCam. I was really impressed by the audio quality on this.
There’s no magnet to keep it shut, it’s just the friction holding on to the 920.

Accessories: Nokia Coloud Boom Headphones Unboxing. Video by Nokia Lumia 925 and Pro Cam Posted: 19 Aug 2013 01:00 AM PDT
Nokia Coloud headphones are Nokia’s latest range of colourful headphones but at a very affordable price. The BOOM represents the ‘over’ ears variety, the largest of the set but priced at a rather affordable 27 EUR. The video is filmed using the Nokia Lumia 925 and Nokia Pro Cam
We have the yellow variety Near the 3.5mm jack is some kind of contraption to wrap the flat style cable (which is there to reduce tangling) Microphone and remote. One button remote. L/R indicators Bright yellow cans
Here’s what they look like when you wear them. Front, side and on the neck. BTW, I’m moving to hospital accommodation this term which apparently has no internet. I haven’t had time to edit the videos so they’re just fresh off the Nokia Lumias that recorded them. |
