Posted: 26 Aug 2013 01:37 PM PDT This shouldn’t be too far fetched to believe. It was already postulated by some the moment Stephen Elop became Nokia CEO that somehow he would return and take over from Ballmer. Now, The Sunday Times has a short list for the next few possible CEOs to replace Ballmer. The Times article is under a paywall but other names mentioned which included:
I don’t know if there were other names. Bill Gates is mentioned by WPC but they note the Times did not back that claim. What if Sinofsky returns? Any other candidates? OPK? Mr Vanjoki :p
Stephen Elop, based on the interviews we’ve seen and having met him in person, seems to be the type that loves a challenge. Is Nokia a bigger challenge at the moment and so will he stay until he turns it around completely? We’re seeing small signs of improvement but there’s still a big way to go in this long-term strategy. Maybe MS is the bigger challenge and Nokia CEO was like CEO-work experience.

Some info from TheVerge’s Tom Warren on the supposed Nokia tablet. It sounds pretty decent to me except the RT bit (and that’s my own skewed bias of RT which is based off zero experience) confirming some previous recently rumoured specs.

Here’s a video from Nokia US showing Entertainment Star Rocsi Diaz with a Nokia Lumia 1020. The whole promo itself is also filmed on the 1020. Diaz says that people she sees are wowed by the pictures the 1020 takes and that she no longer needs to take her professional camera around for blogging.

Posted: 26 Aug 2013 02:14 AM PDT Here are a couple of street musicians from Manchester filmed on the Nokia Lumia 925 with ProCam. Listen out for that quality audio, stable handheld video and zooming. In the Drummer video you can see that there’s no clipping exhibited (that harsh tone when it’s too loud. N8 suffered this unfortunately despite sounding awesome in all other respects). With the Piano Busker you can hear all the more delicate notes of the two pianos simultaneously played picked up by the 925. I was listening to both videos through headphones and I had to keep taking them off as I thought I kept hearing my housemates at the door but it was just the microphones picking up the audio very clearly. For musicians, it’s important to get your music out there and in the best quality possible. The high amplitude audio capture stereo microphones on the likes of the Nokia Lumia 925/920/928/1020 (other Lumias also have HAAC mics, just not stereo, no?) capture the best quality sound possible and all in the camera of the smartphone that’s always with you. Zooming needs to stutter less. Even add a delay perhaps from swiping or pinch and zooming to deliver a smooth transition? (Sometimes it’s smooth, other times it’s not. Just needs some consistency). YouTube offers the usual digital stabilisation which also helps stabilise it further but I’ve left that off do demonstrate OIS. With video capture for a long time, software has been able to improve stability of videos, but I’m not sure how they could go about capturing great audio if the mics weren’t up to it in the first place. |
