Microsoft Planning on Losing the Hardware Back button on Windows Phone? Posted: 10 Oct 2013 10:45 AM PDT According to all things Windows guru, Paul Thurrott; Microsoft might be ditching the hardware back key with Windows Phone 8. Claiming that most people still don’t seem to understand how the back navigation works (hell I still get confused all the time). The issue with the back button is that you’re never really sure if it will exit to the homescreen/previous app or just to the previous screen of the app you’re in (Pop Quiz: clicking on a toast notification from Twitter for a DM will open the app, after replying the back button will…..?). Of course the back button is also used for multitasking in WP, as keeping it pressed brings up the app switcher; it’s unclear how this will work once the back button is gone (especially with the home button getting more functions such as double tapping if the rumors are true). The other major question is how will this affect the current generation of devices who already have this hardware key, and should be getting WP 8.1 *hopefully*? There’re still plenty of things that are unclear at the moment, but right now ditching the back button doesn’t seem to be the end of the world to me. Provided Microsoft find an elegant solution to navigating the OS that is.

Posted: 10 Oct 2013 09:13 AM PDT By the end of the year, Microsoft may appoint their new CEO. I believe they wanted a replacement for Ballmer initially within 12 months? In the running?
He declined to be considered but apparently MS approached eBay CEO John Donahoe. Things seem to have stalled whilst Ballmer is on the way out (like things weren’t slow enough already). Microsoft are urgently looking insert a new chief to get things going again. A new CEO is expected before Nokia deal closes Source: Bloomberg Via: TheVerge |

Nokia Releases Glance Background App, Allows Users to Set Sleeping Screen Image Posted: 10 Oct 2013 07:16 AM PDT Nokia have just added a new beta app called “Glance Background” which does pretty much what sleeping screen did on Symbian (and some simple hacking allowed on the N9). The ability to place any image as a glance always on image, really useful if you want to pimp out your brand, or simply keep some owners information on screen (Property of blah blah blah); or maybe just add a cool effect. You can grab the app from the link below, but beware it’s a beta so don’t expect it to be without bugs:
Now can we please get those notifications? Psst: if you want to show your MNB love and get the logo on your glance screen, go ahead and grab it from here (seriously it looks awesome!):

Lumia Amber/GDR2 Finally Rolling Out to At&t Branded Lumias Today! Posted: 10 Oct 2013 03:39 AM PDT For some unknown reason At&t has taken forever to approve the Lumia Amber update for release on their network, breaking Nokia’s promise to have it available on all devices by September’s end. However it seems the day has finally arrived as an At&t spokesperson announced that the update should be available starting today.
So if you’re an At&t user who has been on the edge of his/her seat for this, wait no longer (hopefully); check your phone for the update (under settings) and cross your fingers. In the mean time in case you missed it here’s our video walk-through of the Lumia Amber and GDR2 changelog:
