MNB RG: Windows Phone gaining market share in Estonia Posted: 21 Oct 2013 01:51 PM PDT Estonia (Finland’s southern neighbour) is a pretty small market and so isn’t usually reported on, but I thought I’d share some info about how Windows Phone is doing here.
The info comes from two of our biggest carriers:
So the situation is pretty encouraging (probably no small thanks to Nokia being a very strong brand here), despite the fact that stores keep the most exciting models (including the 925 and 1020 that recently became available) locked up, with only the 820 and/or 520 out on display for people to try out. At the same time, many stores have a dedicated Samsung corner with a number of Galaxy models on display. Hopefully the marketing situation will improve, though. Regards, |
LeakyLeak: Red Nokia Lumia 1320 , front and back Posted: 21 Oct 2013 01:48 PM PDT More Nokias coming your way. This one is the Nokia Lumia 1320. Note the placement of the buttons, they’re not as squished in the middle suggesting a smaller display than the 1520. The higher number versus the 1020 indicates improvement (via processor, possibly higher res screen as per 6 mini tile column – though it also works on 720p). I’m not quite sure these numbers are going to work out in the long term. My friend bought a Nokia Lumia 800 recently thinking it was an upgrade over the 620 – and the store he bought it from sold it as that (not a major retailer, just a different outlet). https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/392370608412950528/photo/1 |
#TeamNokia Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee Posted: 21 Oct 2013 11:15 AM PDT As I was looking at Ali’s photo’s from Abu Dhabi, I stumbled across some pictures from 1020MobilePhotoDay. The one above is shot by the 808 PureView. A very stunning picture featuring a butterfly and an oncoming bee by @magushi72. Hopefully, Nokia will be delivering some knockout punches tomorrow at Nokia World. https://twitter.com/magushi72/status/392070029778239488/photo/1 Another from the 808 by DavidHKm1 View of Abu Dhabi by yasir64x Something for the sweet tooth by Nokians.fr Did you share a pic for #1020MobilePhotoDay? It doesn’t need to be from the 1020 only . Here’s some that appears on the twitter hashtag.

Nokia ready to share surprises “Big, Small and Just Right” for Nokia World Posted: 21 Oct 2013 10:23 AM PDT Nokia’s shared this facebook image for Nokia World. We see a suited gentleman and what appears to be three cases, in grey, yellow and black. The grey one has a handcuff on it. What does it mean? The three sizes correlate to the big, small and just right. Nokia sees it as being spoilt for choice – something Nokia did very well until the choices became not Nokia vs Nokia but Nokia vs Competitor. |
LeakyLeak: Nokia Lumia 1520 protective case and stand cover. Posted: 21 Oct 2013 10:12 AM PDT Here’s a look at another accessory, this one just for the Nokia Lumia 1520. It’s a protective cover/stand. Note how it covers the back and the screen. I have something similar I’ve been using for my 920 and 1020 but it’s a wallet case. I meant to show a post because I slightly modified one with something interesting for the 1020. Anyway… https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/392336763013722112/photo/1 Source: @evleaks |
Record Nokia Lumia sales for fourth consecutive quarter, Elop to announce 6 devices. Posted: 21 Oct 2013 09:52 AM PDT Going from modest strength to strength, Wall Street Journal says that Nokia’s Lumia range are hitting another record. WSJ estimates at least 8 million, close to triple the sales of Lumia this time last year. The Verge concludes that thanks to Nokia, WP8 has a place in the market. We haven’t seen official figures from Nokia yet. Whilst on the ward round this morning, I thought I left my phone on loud. I was embarrassed to it bleeping. Nope, it was one of the other doctors with a 820. Not indicative of sales but nice to see these handsets in the hands of people who aren’t Nokia bloggers. I love train rides as I can see many 520s in close proximity – it’s a super student friendly phone. Poor student but great value haha. Somewhat more of a bigger headline is that Stephen Elop will be the one announcing the devices tomorrow. I may have missed such speaker info but we weren’t sure what he would be doing and who would be the one to announce the new Nokia devices since he’s moving over to Nokia and given the helm to the Chairman to avoid conflicts of interest. With Elop and Nokia at MS, it pushes the importance of the mobile strategy at MS. Cheers Chandan and Alvester for the tip! |

LeakyLeak: Nokia Lumia 1520 in yellow with Nokia Treasure Tag Posted: 21 Oct 2013 09:06 AM PDT Here’s a look at the sleek and slim Nokia LUMIA 1520 with the Nokia Treasure Tag! The accessory that will stop you losing things it’s attached to (well it’ll help you find it). BTW, I’ve got my keys attached to the Nokia Lumia 1020 via the wrist strap . https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/392300892113731584/photo/1 Cheers Alvester for the tip! |
Update: We Are Live From Abu Dhabi! #NokiaWorld Posted: 21 Oct 2013 05:07 AM PDT
Earlier today I landed in Abu Dhabi international airport (and after being briefly buffeted by the humidity and heat) I was whisked off to my hotel room, in “Dusit Thani”. A fancy hotel chain that is pretty awesome, check out the video tour of my room below:
Included in the welcome packet in our room was a sticker sort of thing that says “there are two ways of spreading light, to be the candle; or the mirror that reflects it”. An interesting piece of wisdom, and I thought it was related to tomorrow’s event, something to do with a mirror system and cameras (light etc.). However I remembered the topic of this event is Innovation Reinvented, so perhaps Nokia are calling themselves the candle, and the imitators the mirror? What do you guys think? I also felt like sharing today’s dinner menu with you guys, as it looks to be amazing, with a huge selection of foods! Yum! Oh and did I forget to mention, we’re on the 37th floor (the top floor)! Which includes an amazing view of Abu Dhabi.
