Lumia 2520 Tablet Leaked Again, This Time in Red (Update: Magenta Too?) Posted: 12 Oct 2013 02:06 PM PDT Last night we got our first glimpse of the Lumia 2520 press renders, today @evleaks has released a second image, this time of the device in red. https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/388990024139563008
From this angle the red doesn’t seem to be as glossy as other redners suggested, while the live pictures showed it off in a matte sort of finish, which do you guys prefer? Update:Upon further investigation, the source of the image below is highly suspect, so don’t buy too much into the color option, but do share your thoughts on the color, real or not. It seems that a Magenta version of the tablet has also leaked? Although it might be some photoshop trickery, as I thought Magenta had been dropped from the Lumia range since WP8. Plus according to @evleaks it’s only coming in Red White Cyan and Black; either way take a gander at the image below: |
Nokia Lumia 720 pre and post Amber update Posted: 12 Oct 2013 12:36 PM PDT Here’s a series of images showing the difference the Nokia Amber update does for the Nokia Lumia 720. Note that the images here are screenshots. It certainly changes some photos that otherwise appear too dark and silhouetted. There’s a difference in the white balance. Looking a little warmer? Max zoom The last sample, the image with Amber kinda looks over exposed? |
Pics: Ultimate Lumia + Accessories Color Coded Collections Posted: 12 Oct 2013 07:59 AM PDT Check out Antoine’s greed inducing collection of Lumias and accessories! The same person who’s cyan gallery we shared a while back; well apparently his collection and color options have increased! Can you name them all? Oh and be sure to give him a follow on twitter and instagram while you’re at it. And here’s a bonus pic of all his gear together:

GSM Arena Camera Fight: Nokia Lumia 1020 beats iPhone 5S, Xperia Z1, LG G2, HTC One, Note 3 Posted: 12 Oct 2013 05:21 AM PDT GSM Arena says it’s not surprising to see the 1020 on top, being geared towards bringing the best camera experience. In their 6 way shootout, yet again, the 1020 comes triumphant.
So much praise. It’s nice to hear unanimous wins for the 1020. Whilst the 920 last year was also winning camera show downs, it wasn’t until recent updates did the day light photo match to expectations (though it did win some tests there for good dynamic range).
Cheers all for the tip! |
Nokia 909 mystery explained? Nokia Lumia 1020′s alter ego. Posted: 12 Oct 2013 04:29 AM PDT It’s been discussed a few times here now how the Nokia Lumia 1020 is also known as the Nokia 909. That was the rumoured name for a little while and if you check out the packaging/about/wifi tethering name/sim tray etc you might see more evidence that this is the case. Michal looked into this matter further and emailed us this article. The original is in Polish at http://nokiawindowsphone.pl/ Interesting. All I was previously used to were the RM/RX style model numbers and the actual model name. Those code numbers aren’t usually seen in packaging or in something like the device name when setting up bluetooth/tethering. __________________ Nokia Lumia 1020 is the official name used for our 41MP PureView Lumia smartphone in every country across the Globe. Though 909 can be seen in the Nokia Lumia 1020 about section, this was simply the development title for the product. 1.Nokia Lumia 1020 is the marketing name used globally in all customer facing marketing materials. Nokia Lumia 1020 is the only name seen in commercials, in point of sales and that is also visible in the sales package carton. 2.NOKIA 909.x is the model number defines the exact version of the product in the sales package. It's also used in all certifications and type approvals.
3.Model numbers are: 1.NOKIA 909 = RM-876 = China PRC 2.NOKIA 909.1 = RM-875 = RoW 3.NOKIA 909.2 = RM-877 = AT&T 4.NOKIA 909.3 = RM-877 = NAM Usage of 909• In the device Settings > About > Model: NOKIA 909 • Browser UA header: Mozilla/5.0 (compatible; MSIE 10.0; Windows Phone 8.0; Trident/6.0; IEMobile/10.0; ARM; Touch; NOKIA; 909; mobileOperator) • MMS UA header: WindowsPhoneMMS/1.0 WindowsPhoneOS/8.0-10328 909 • When connected to PC, the phone will be shown as: RM-87x|Nokia 909 • Camera EXIF data in the photos, Camera maker: Nokia, Camera model: Lumia 1020 • Lasering on the device on the SIM tray opening: 909.x • Certification documents, both Model number: 909.x and Type: RM-87x • User Guide has: Nokia Lumia 1020 and Model: Nokia 909.x with smaller font. In the UG content also RM-87x is defined. • Sales box: Nokia Lumia 1020 printed on the box, but there's sticker on the box including Model number: Nokia 909.x

Weekend Watch: Camera showdown between Nokia Lumia 1020 and Sony Xperia Z1 (Spoiler, 1020 wins) Posted: 12 Oct 2013 03:42 AM PDT
Here’s another comparison between the Nokia Lumia 1020 and the Sony Xperia Z1. Both are excellent devices but in this video, the camera performance is tested. Overall the 1020 is a winner. More detail, better looking photos, better contrast, better bokeh, better video, better low light, better manual controls. But the Z1 isn’t shabby, it’s just that the 1020 is really good. We’re still of course looking for that fix on the white balance (though often the Z1 looks really bland/pale – almost at the other end of the spectrum). Also the software stabilisation on the Z1, sometimes it looks good (like the YouTube software stabilisation) and sometimes not so. I’d be interested to see how it looks on top of the optical image stabilisation Nokia has (actually you can see that by uploading to youtube). Of course, software stabilisation isn’t going to be much help on camera phones for photos and time and time again it helps bring in just that extra bit more detail for the 1020.
