Leakyleak: Live Pics of Nokia Normandy Posted: 14 Jan 2014 07:34 PM PST Thanks to ViziLeaks, the same person behind the full Lumia 1020 leak and mini review before launch, we now have our first pic of what appears to be the Nokia Normandy, or Nokia’s android device. The phone has a matte red finish and a small led flash (something not found on the low end Lumia’s such as the 520/525. The lockscreen and volume buttons give off the same Lumia look we’ve gotten used to, and according to @evleaks this phone even forgoes the onscreen android buttons. https://twitter.com/vizileaks/status/423232432762941442 What do you guys think of the phone, carrying the classic Lumia look, or should android Lumia’s find their own design? |
Apply Cold Water to Burned Area: Nokia Russia shows HTC Russia how it’s done Posted: 14 Jan 2014 02:26 PM PST
HTC pretty much set themselves up for this letting Nokia twist the knife even more. But it’s all just fun and it was actually quite tasteful. HTC asks how do you use your phone in the cold? What tricks? Nokia promptly answers….to use a Lumia. It’s not that well advertised (nothing is by Nokia) but I love the fact that in cold winters like this, I can keep my gloves and carry on answering messages, browsing the web and just using my phone whilst my hands are toasty! No specialised gloves necessary. What about…HTC tips on how to record great sound? (Wrong answer is “Steal some Nokia kit”) https://twitter.com/HTC_Ru/status/422695103333822464 https://twitter.com/NokiaRu/status/422709797868544000 Cheers All for the tip! |
Some more of Next Gen Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 stuff – most already in Lumias Posted: 14 Jan 2014 02:13 PM PST
We’ve seen some of what Qualcomm is going to bring in the 805 in their own demoes but here are some that WPC shot. It’s interesting that a lot of what we see, are already featured in Lumia.
The processing power looks insane. 4K video processing looks a breeze. I don’t know if it’s just because my desktop PC is old/using Vegas/made from Acer but it dies when I try to render 1080p video or just takes forever. Hopefully, faster loading and shot to shot times? With the 1020 there was a lot Nokia wanted to do, but were limited based on the fact that it takes a lot to juggle all of this data. Burst shots of 8x41MP? Perhaps not even with the 805 but in the future that might not be so far fetched.

Videos: Nokia Lumia 1020 Disassembly, Assembly and Screen Frame Exchange Posted: 14 Jan 2014 11:37 AM PST Check out these videos from LE55ONS. The first shows a step by step dissection of the Nokia Lumia 1020, disassembly and then reassembly with instructions on screen replacement. The second is a screen frame exchange. As per usual, doing this voids your warranty so do this at your own risk. Even if you’re not going to do this, it’s always an interesting watch to see the internals of these Nokias.

Posted: 14 Jan 2014 11:28 AM PST WPC are reporting that there are 7 Disney games that are appearing as FREE for a limited time. Total savings? $15. Indeed they are free as I’ve gone and quickly downloaded (and then uninstalled) some of them. Not because I didn’t like them, I didn’t even play it. But I might someday and it helps to have previously downloaded a PAID app that suddenly becomes free as you can redownload it for free at a later time.

Panasonic to make tough Windows Phones, Nokia happy to have more competition Posted: 14 Jan 2014 11:17 AM PST
Microsoft is said to be working closely with Panasonic to bring some rugged Windows Phone into the field. Now whilst you might think, erm, don’t they have rugged WP already with Nokias, well, it’s good to have more players regardless :p.Perhaps Panasonic might add some actual purpose built rugged devices, versus Nokia phones that just happen to be rugged by nature. In all seriousness, some phone versions of their toughpad in the enterprise sounds like a nice option. It would be great for the end consumer to have some properly waterproof additions. Who knows maybe Sony might bring that into the mix should they join too? Perhaps if that becomes a popular requirement, Nokia, or the team of Nokia at MS might make their own versions. Wasn’t there another new manufacturer also heading WP? Xolo from India? In Nokia’s eyes, competition is good for the platform. Bigger platform, more room for sales. That of course is Nokia being confident in being able to keep up with their future portfolio. At the moment, Nokia = WP. If they were to keep some of their software advantages (apps, services, hardware tech) that sounds very possible. But imagine if Microsoft decides to share that out with everyone.
