Posted: 17 Jan 2014 09:48 AM PST According to a recent press release by Nokia, the quarter 4 results of 2013 will be released on the 23rd of January 2014 (1 PM Finnish time). Along with the usual results, Nokia is reporting substantially all of its Devices & Services business as discontinued operations. Nokia will also issue detailed reports of all three remaining divisions of the company (HERE, Nokia Solutions Networks, and Advanced Technologies), as well as a separate report for Discontinued Operations. It will certainly be interesting to see exactly how much Nokia have been spending under R&D in the advanced technologies department.

Lumia Black Update Now Available for At&t Lumia 925′s Posted: 17 Jan 2014 09:37 AM PST After rolling out to most devices globally last week, Nokia’s Lumia Black update is now hitting At&t Lumia 925′s. The update should be available by searching under “settings > Phone Update > Check for updates”. As a quick refresher Lumia Black’s main feature include camera performance enhancement, notifications on the glance lock-screen, and support for Bluetooth LE. Enjoy. Thanks for the tip Alvester

Path Beta App Released for WP8 Posted: 17 Jan 2014 09:31 AM PST After a good couple months of waiting, the social-networking app “Path” has finally been released for WP, in beta form. Path is a private social network that focuses on sharing content with the people you want, and only them; users are limited to having 150 connections/friends on their profile, and can control the privacy and sharing options of each post. I personally don’t use it, but you can grab the app from the link below:
Enjoy Thanks for the tip Alvester

Lumiappdates: Netflix and Indigo Updated Posted: 17 Jan 2014 05:53 AM PST Whilst you wait for Cortana, you could always try Indigo for additional voice queries. This was recently updated. Previous features include updating statuses on facebook and setting alarms. Netflix was also just updated again. Nice to see active work on popular apps. |
Posted: 17 Jan 2014 05:47 AM PST Bloomberg is reporting that Nokia may be gearing up for a new CEO soon. Two most likely candidates suggest which direction Nokia might head. NSN or as a ‘holdings’ company with three separate prongs of Maps, NSN and Advanced Technologies. "If Rajeev gets it, it's a signal that Nokia becomes NSN," Windsor said. "If Timo gets it, it's a sign Nokia becomes a holding company." Source: Bloomberg Cheers prashant for the tip |
Posted: 16 Jan 2014 09:04 PM PST According to a recent post by “MSFTNerd”, the highly anticipated revamped voice assistant for WP code-named “Cortana” will launch in beta form for US users this April (Microsoft’s Annual BUILD conference is in April). According to the source the voice assistant will be voiced by “Jen Taylor” the same voice actor who plays Cortana in the Halo series. Apparently Cortana can be activated by saying the key phrase “Bing Tell me” and can be asked questions such as:
It’s unclear however if the phone will always be listening for these commands (like the Xbox One) or if the Voice assistant has to be activated first (currently by keeping the home button pressed). I for one can’t wait to get these new features on my WP, and would love for them to be accompanied with a proper voice recognition, offline dictation available throughout the OS and not just specific areas, what do you guys think?
