Lumiappdates: Transfer my Data and #2InstaWithLove Updated

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 11:34 AM PDT

wp_ss_20130416_0001A couple more updates rolling out today to Lumia apps, including “transfer my data” which is used to copy contacts, SMS etc. off an old phone onto your new Lumia; unfortunately this doesn’t always work with all phones (it didn’t work from my Stormtrooper 900 to the 920). Also updated is Nokia’s #2instaWithLoveApp, which seems kind of redundant now that instagraph has come out; but of course the official solution is the way to go.

Speaking if instagraph it seems they’ve fixed their server issues as pictures are no longer “stuck” for hours, over the past few days I’ve been getting my photos uploaded within 10-15 minutes; and just in case you missed it here’s our video review of the app:

Nokia Lumia Laces! Thanks @Deano_42 (Pics by Nokia Lumia 920) #NokiaMusic

I Love Nokia related gear, either official Nokia products or unusual merchandise like shirts, umbrellas, pens, etc.

With the addition of tiles, accessorising Nokia related things got even easier! E.G. Socks (either black magenta/black cyan or multicoloured) to strut the Nokia Lumia appeal.
I think I saw Ali’s pictures of some Lumia laces he bagged whilst in Barcelona. I really wanted them and fortunately for me, Nokia’s Entertainment Evangelist heard my whines and said he had some to give :D Colour me lumia-tiled-surprised when I saw an envelope that said Nokia at the top, coming all the way from Sunny Finland!

Inside were Nokia Lumia laces from Deano :D . Thanks!
Pictures were from the Nokia Lumia 920, either Auto or with HDR Photo lens (then passed through the watermarker to compress images)

It’s seems Nokia’s latest factory, in Hanoi City Vietnam is now officially up and running, The Nokia Future talent page on facebook shared some pictures of the operating crew and the building with the following captions:

Nokia Vietnam

The newest Nokia manufacturer – Join us to build and help create an exciting new chapter in the mobile industry.
Hopefully this will put an end to any “low supply” issues like those we saw with the 920.

Jolla to announce first device in May? Pre-Order for “special edition” variant

Posted: 16 Apr 2013 05:54 AM PDT

N950 Sailfish OS Jolla

Jolla will announce its smartphone at beginning of May. Pre-order fees will work as funding and in exchange those who pre-order get to choose the looks of their phone. There are several levels of pre-order fees. At beginning of May we will get to know what first phone looks like and how it works.

We’ve been following Jolla rather closely here at the blog, both as they’re ex-Nokians and since they are building on the efforts of the N9. Thanks to a tip and translation by one of our readers Otto, we have exciting news.

Jolla is said to be announcing their first device next month. Antti Saarnio, Jolla Chairman has said their “phone will represent modern Scandinavian design”. What this exactly means, I have no idea, other than assuming its in reference to their partnership with a Scandinavian industrial design team, who worked alongside Nokia on many devices.

Jolla is reportedly going to begin pre-orders from mid-May, in order to start generating hype and provide eager fans with the opportunity to join a specific “club”. Apparently, the devices that get pre-ordered will come with “something unique”; “something special…that will not be available otherwise”.

“We want Jolla to be a movement. We want to involve fans already in early phases. Fans make sure that phone will be available and fans will be first ones to get their phones” said Saarnio.

We know Jolla doesn’t have a huge budget, hence this is most likely to be used as crowd-sourced funding as well as a marketing tactic. Either way, the prospect of having a limited edition device is awesome! It is reportedly going to be like many crowd-funded startups; certain tier “payments” provide certain benefits. Apparently the more you pay, the more unique the device you get. Especially for someone like me who wants a Jolla device anyway.

Check out these 3D printed shells for the Nokia Lumia 920. It’s not like the completely replaceable shells of the 820/520 but more like an additional protective cover.
