My Nokia Lumia 920 (UK) Just got updated (now with Storage check) still taking up 5.19GB in ‘other’ :/

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 02:29 PM PDT

MNBwp_ss_20130404_0009My Nokia Lumia 920 downloaded an update on its own just now and asked if I wanted to install it. This is a UK 920 from Orange (or was, it got swapped with one from Nokia Care).

It was the “NOKIA” update for Windows Phone.

My OS version is 8.0.10211.204.

The firmware version was previously 1232.5951.1249.1018

It’s now: 1232.5957.1308.0020.

Storage check appears at the very bottom of settings. I’ve previously used Shrink Storage to quel the hunger that os ‘other storage’. It manage to climb back up to 9.20 GB today.

Some of you have had this update for a while and some might still be waiting for it. Either way, I’m gonna share my updates with you guys :p.

MNBwp_ss_20130404_0016Storage check didn’t clear all of that (I noticed some others having just a few kb/mb)

MNBwp_ss_20130404_0018

You’ll need to swipe to the right and click clear on temporary files.

MNBwp_ss_20130404_0019

Cleared. 1.9GB still remains in other.

MNBwp_ss_20130404_0020

Actually no, 5.19GB remains in other :/

MNBwp_ss_20130404_0021I wonder what’s eating up that extra ‘Other’ space and how can I clear that further? Better than 9.2GB I guess but still…

Here’s the gallery of the update process, minus the cog thing when the phone restarted as you can’t take screenshots at that time.

Times like these I get jealous of the microSD card slot in the 820/720/620/520.

Connecting People and Putting People First – Facebook Home and Facebook Phone – Nokia Lumia

Here’s your Facebook Phone if  you ever did need one. Oh also, I read some comments about the new HTCopypasta phone looking like a 620.  I guess a few others noticed too (source; via :) But that’s stretched rectangles and rounded corners. The wallpaper backgrounds behind the OS reminds me of the WP gallery/music player.

  • htcopypasta
  • Integrated Facebook chat (check)
  • Facebook contacts (check)
  • Facebook calendar (check)
  • Facebook photos (check)
  • Facebook updates (check)
  • Not an app but something integrated into the device. Only requiring logging in.
  • Seamless experience that actually puts the user first.

Now, jokes aside, MS need to get a move on to continue improving the people hub experience. Ali noted some pointers in this post.

Microsoft promotes WP again with Nokia Lumia 920 vs Samsung Galaxy SIII (for video stabilisation)

Hurray MS, more promotion of Windows Phone with a non Windows Phone feature :p. Either way, it’s good to see them promoting the brand that’s actually making their platform grow and is focused on making WP grow.

In this video you’ll see the Nokia Lumia 920 go up against the SGSIII for video stabilisation.

If you’re saying, no, no, it should go up against the newly announced SGSIV. Well the results are the same.

Karbonn Copy: Android Phone with WP8 Live Tiles?

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 11:52 AM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-04-04 at 19.45.16Here’s one way to get noticed…just go and copy the homescreen of WP8 and pass it off as an Android phone.

It’s this level of ‘inspired by others’ that would make SamClone and HTCopypasta proud.

As much as folks would want to deny it, Metro Tiles are getting noticed, they’re influencing others and people want them. Although each homescreen is unique, the familiarity of metro tiles makes it very easy to use.

Red Nokia Lumia 720 and Nokia Lumia 520 available on O2-UK

The Nokia Lumias 720 and 520 are available in Ali’s Ferarri Red at O2-UK in either pay as you go or pay monthly flavours. The 520 is ushered in at just £119.99 (the same price as the 620 when O2′s consumer voters chose the 620 to get a heavy discount) which bodes well for the 520 and the months to come. The 720 is available on Pay and Go at £299. Pretty steep.  The 820 is at O2 for £329.99 (though that is the 820 coming down in price with the 720 being fresh out of the factory). The 620 goes back (their Easter sale finished yesterday) to £149.99.

This update was pushed through to the Nokia Lumia 820. There’s nothing yet on my 920 about this. It’s dated 04/04/2013 and says it’s version 1.2.0.0.

  • Flash support (like LED flash, not the I’ma crash your browser Flash)
  • Easier access to share/edit menus for previously captured sessions
  • Link to forums in about page.

History of Symbian, Android before Android, relevance to Nokia’s future.

Quick heads up on a very interesting read by Jo Best on ZNET. I have only managed to glance the first few paragraphs, it’s definitely one to finish.

Jo looks at the history, the golden years, and the downfall of Symbian. There’s also some discussion over S40/Meltemi, S40′s limitations and the ongoing threat of Android.

Rumour: Nokia Catwalk Launch date, 15th May 2013, London

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 05:14 AM PDT

Get your buckets of salt on the ready. This tip comes from someone that prefers not to be identified, but can be referred to as ‘”South”. They say that the Nokia Catwalk might be launched 15th May 2013. Good timing if true as my written exams should be finished by then :p.

We’ve had some previous rumour tips before from them that have come true, although you’re all right should you still be skeptical about this information.

The Nokia Catwalk is a slim, beautiful, possibly aluminium Nokia Lumia which is said to have a very decent camera.

This should be a very popular watch, even if you’re not going to disassembly/reassemble your Nokia Lumia 620, it’s fascinating to see someone pry it apart and skilfully piece it back together.

This comes by way of destroyer-creator Guru , LE55ONS.

Lumiappdates: Shazam and Netflix get updated

Posted: 04 Apr 2013 02:54 AM PDT

MNBwp_ss_20130404_0004

A couple of updates in the shape of Shazam and Netflix.

The Shazam update seems quite urgent; a highly recommended update in order for tags to be stored in future updates.

The Netflix one I’m not too sure.
