Remember that Nokia Treasure Tag we saw leaked alongside the Lumia 1520 days before Nokia World? You’re forgiven if you can’t, because since then, we haven’t heard a thing!

It seems that the Treasure Tag’s companion app is live in the store, though only for internal use. Whats interesting to note, is that it was update in November, so clearly the project was live and kicking post-Nokia World. Will we see it finally released in a few weeks at MWC? Lets hope so, as there seems to be a fair few competitors coming up with this nifty piece of hardware.

HowTo: Install the Pulled YouTube App for WP8

Posted: 05 Feb 2014 04:24 AM PST

Youtube 1

YouTube got a great update last year after Microsoft and Google made an agreement, then, Google got too demanding with how MS should make the app, and it was pulled. Thanks to some devs over on XDA, the YouTube app has been fixed, and you can install it on your WP8 device, given you have a developer unlocked device.

1. Make sure your phone is developer unlocked using the unlock tool in the Windows Phone SDK 8.0.

2. Download the YouTube .XAP file and the WindowsPhonePowerTools.Application from below

3. Use the WindowsPhonePowerTools.Application to select the YouTube .XAP and deploy it to your phone (Please note that if you use the application deployment tool in the windows phone SDK you may be presented with errors)

4. After a minute or two you will notice the YouTube app appear at the bottom of the app list on your Windows Phone 8 Device.

5. Enjoy using the great YouTube app which was blocked by Scroogle.

Nokia Quietly Releases Software Recovery Tool

Nokia_Recovery_Tool_MainScreen

Nokia Care has quietly released a Windows program called “Nokia Software Recovery Tool” that allows you to fix your device if it gets bricked. Pretty much, this seems to be a consumer version of the Nokia Care Suite that many of us have been using over the years to fix our Nokia devices when they become bricked, or even to install OS builds before they’re officially released.

Cheers to Sheeds for finding this (and letting us use his screenshots)!

Update: Seems its been around since at least late January. Kudos, Jimmy!

Video: Nokia 808 PureView vs Sony QX100Q vs Nokia Lumia 1020

Posted: 05 Feb 2014 12:08 AM PST

pvc marcMarc from the PureView club has worked with Harsh Verma for their capture and analysis of the following comparison. Nokia’s big guns, the 808 PureView and Lumia 1020 against Sony’s strap-on cameras.

http://pureviewclub.com/2014/20822

Steve Litchfield also compared another QX against the 1020 here. Unlike the previous where the Sony had the smaller sensor in comparison to the 1020, this one has a larger sensor, even compared to the 808. But in their findings, the 1020 is found to preserve the most details.

While having the smallest sensor and pixel size, the Lumia 1020 preserves most details than these due to RAW. Images are pure. The lens takes bright photos. Though it exhibits some noise, but it's of a very fine type. And when you oversample it to 5MP, it's almost negligible.

On top of that, there’s the unpractical nature of this kind of device.

Cheers everyone for the tip!

Video: Steve Ballmer shows his love for New CEO, Microsoft; incredibly bright future ahead!

ballmerFormer CEO of Microsoft Steve Ballmer welcomes his successor, Satya Nadella on video.

You can see Ballmer’s a very passionate guy. He supports Satya as a strong leader with great credentials for the position. He acknowledges that MS has a lot of great leaders, and thus together with Satya, feels MS is in good hands, with an incredibly bright future ahead.

Ballmer wants to help Satya/MS in anyway he can. He says that MS IS one of the greatest companies in the world. He loves this company. He loves how he ‘partners with other companies to change the world’.

Video: Satya Nadella, Microsoft’s new CEO, Mobile and Cloud first, ruthlessly removing obstacles to innovation

Nokia’s D&S should gain even more prominence under the new CEO, Satya Nadella who wants to make Microsoft Mobile and Cloud FIRST.

Here’s a video interview with Micrososft’s new CEO. What kind of character is he like? Bill, Ballmer and even Elop were quite prominent personalities.

Aims?

  • Ruthlessly remove obstacles that allow MS to innovate
  • Focus that innovation on things Microsoft can uniquely do (could be interpreted like, MS will stick to what they’re good at vs attempting to innovate?)
  • Find more meaning at work

Mobile first and cloud first as everything becomes digital. Microsoft will push what they can uniquely bring. Their heritage. From being the productive company to being the ‘do more’ company so everyone can get more out of every moment of their lives.

With the talent MS has, Nadella reckons they have the best platform to change the world.
