Whatsapp For WP Updated Again; Brings Recent Messages to Large Live Tile and Faster Loading Times

Posted: 23 Feb 2013 11:24 AM PST

wp_ss_20130223_0001Earlier this week Whatsapp for Windows Phone received a huge overhaul, bringing a large sized tile, a refreshed UI and much more. Unfortunately the app also created some horrible loading times for chat loading and app starts.

The new update brings larger profile pictures view, and recent messages view to the large tile. as well as improved loading times.

unfortunately the app does occasionally take a  while to load some conversations for no obvious reasons.

Download the app from here:

N950 receives Twitter update; N9 app update coming soon? (Changelog incl.)

Posted: 23 Feb 2013 05:04 AM PST

2013-02-20 18.18.29wtmk

So earlier in the week, to my absolute surprise, my N950 beeped and gave me an app update for Twitter! I suspected this would be due to Twitter changing their API to version 1.1  last year and making 1.0 support end in the coming weeks. N9 is still not showing anything, but I imagine this is all just until the bugs in the update are fully ironed out. (Of course if you are desperate, you can add the N950 repo manually. Although I would suggest checking out Rocket, which completely replaces the stock app in every way!)

The official changelog can be seen below, although it wasn’t displayed in the app update page. (We have our ways in the community ;P )

Changes since 1.3.50:
* Cache clean up code updated, deletes tweets/users/images older than 5 days
* Twitter API 1.1
* Fixes: Cannot delete sent direct messages
* Fixes: Follower info is not correct
* Fixes: Unable to retrieve tweets info shown often
* Fixes: The followers cache is updated now when “follow” event comes from the streaming API and when the new list of followers is returned from the server
* Fixes: When logging in to Twitter “Unable to load Trending topic” is shown.

Let me know when your N9s start getting the update notification.

More Lumia 720 and 520 images; This Time From The Back

Evleaks have released a couple more pics of the Lumia 520 (above) and the 720 (below). This time we can see more of those interesting “three pins” on the back of the 720; which has got us all worked up (is it just me or do they look lit up?)- could they be an LED on the back of the phone for notifications? Sounds insane I know but a lot of people sleep with the phone’s screen down to not be disturbed by the screen lighting up for notifications etc. (everyone’s entitles to their crazy theories).

Also notice that both these phones have shed the camera plating around the lens, which Nokia finally got right in the 9/7/6-20 with the scratch proof coating. From this angle we can also see that the 720 is possibly a VERY thin device (the 3.5 mm blends into the back) with curved glass from the front.

As for the the 520 it looks as if it has a curved back (superio-inferiorly) with a speaker placement similar to the 620 in the bottom right corner.

Lumia 720 and 520 Live Pics Leaked Almost 5 Months Ago?

Lumia830-Leak-01-580-90

Our reader “Viktor Von D” pointed out something very interesting, put simply this isn’t the first time we see the design for the Lumia 720 and 520. Just before last year’s Lumia 920 & 820 launch we saw several leaks of a white lumia; which we at the time assumed was the 820, we didn’t really give it much thought seeing how similar the design was to the actually announced device; and chalked it down to prototype changes. But it seems that earlier leaked white device is the Lumia 720. While that other super slim (super sexy) leak was the Lumia 520, and we might even see it in green this time!!!

The 720 is a dead ringer for the leaked white device, except those missing three dots on the back cover; which have caused quite the commotion amongst a few of our readers; with most people speculating them to be wireless charging pins, or battery level indicators. (Couldn’t it just be a rear microphone for video recording? and they put another two just to keep it looking nice?)

RM-860 Spotted in FCC With Verizon Bands

Posted: 22 Feb 2013 11:14 PM PST

lumia-at-fccFollowing up on yesterdays leaks, a Nokia “RM-860″ was spotted in the FCC filings, the phone comes with Verizon’s LTE bands (4 &13). Nokia have been hinting and promising a HIgh End phone for Verizon since forever, and come Monday we might just see it.

There was a time when the codename of devices gave some hint of what the device was actually going to be; but unfortunately they don’t seem to make sense anymore, seeing how the Lumia 920 was Rm-820- & 821, while the Lumia 820 was RM-824.

*MY thoughts; the catwalk = 920-specs in a new body/thinner/lighter, perhaps even made of glass or aluminum?
