‘Amazing’ Momentum since launch says MS at 160,000+ apps. WP dev registration now just $19

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 04:00 PM PDT

Momentum

Daniel Rubino of WPC reports from //build/ that since November of last year:

  • 52k+ app have been submitted with WP8 SDK
  • 102k+ new developers have registered with Windows Phone
  • 2.5x increase in daily app revenue
  • 200M monthly app downloads
  • 160k+ (total) apps, with 191 markets and 50 different languages

With Nokia holding onto 80+% of WP devices, we can be sure the majority of these downloads and developer activities have been taking place on Nokia Lumia devices.

We know what MS really thinks of the non Nokia Lumia WPs, eh? :p (via @vladsavov) let’s stick em upside down haha.

In somewhat related developer news, registration to be a WP developer is now just $19 (from a rather high $99). Well for the next 60 days anyway.

925 review ellen

The beautiful Ellen of EllenTech has reviewed the Nokia Lumia 925. Original text is in Dutch but you can just insert that into a translator if your browser doesn’t do that automatically. Spoiler – Ellen’s scored the 925 very highly, 87/100!

http://www.ellentech.nl/review-van-de-nokia-lumia-925/

Check out how well the Nokia Lumia 925 performs in low light without flash. Of course SGSIV is no where, but I was surprised by the Panasonic GF3.

Look how big the GF3 is.

The 925 is the last one.

Now check it out with a little bit of light.

Mosaic Tile of Tiles: Wall of Windows (Phones) #TilesGalore

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 01:11 PM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-06-26 at 21.07.16Interesting twitpic by @tomwarren – it’s 200 WindowsPhones stuck on a wall. Aka, all the stock of Windows Phone in the US. Joke!

https://twitter.com/tomwarren/status/349954235284193281/photo/1

But what’s odd – the tiles are 3 columns wide. :/ It might be because it’s just playing a video (as per comments). What device is used here?

Family Affair: Nokia Lumia 920 vs 820 vs 720 vs 620 video comparison

Screen Shot 2013-06-26 at 21.01.57Here’s a 2×2  grid comparison showing the video quality of the Nokia Lumia 920, 820, 720 and 620.

I think the audio is playing simultaneously on ALL recordings, haha. The steadiness of the 920 is somewhat magnified by the shakiness of the 820.

Microsoft and Telefonica teaming up to Push WP8 and WP services to Europe and Latin America

Spanish based Telefonica are going to be working even closer with Microsoft to help push WP8 in Europe and Latin America. This should mean a greater push for Nokia Lumia devices.

Adduplex has recently shown some good consistent growth for WP in these regions, but of course it could always do with more help. Interestingly however, according to Kantar, it was only Spain where Windows didn’t grow in Europe.

MS’s Terry Myerson, Corporate VP of WP said:

We are excited to work with Telefónica to market Windows Phone 8 devices to more customers in the UK, Germany, Spain, Mexico, Brazil and Chile, bringing them a more personal smartphone experience with the speed of Telefónica’s network.

Nokia to reveal surprise of some great new apps at //build/, MS’s annual developer conference

This week in SanFran is MS’s annual developer conference for Windows and Windows Phone devs. Nokia’s been a driving force in the marketplace, getting developers on board the WP platform as Nokia Lumia exclusives, so it’s no surprise that Nokia’s at BUILD to help these developers make the most of WP.

Something of interest are some great new apps but Nokia doesn’t want to spoil the surprise:

Additionally, leading developers working with Nokia will be announcing some great new apps this week at BUILD (you will have to wait for details – we don't want to ruin the surprise

Nokia Trademarks ‘Nokia Zoom’ #zoomreinvented #EOS #41MP

Posted: 26 Jun 2013 11:39 AM PDT

nokia zoom

Filed rather recently on May 30th 2013, Nokia has Trademarked ‘Nokia Zoom’ ahead of perhaps the unveiling of their ‘Zoom Reinvented’ Nokia Lumia 1020/EOS, the 41MP camera smartphone which looks to revolutionise imaging like the Nokia 808 PureView.

In International Class 9:
Mobile phones, smart phones, tablets; accessories and replacement parts for mobile phones, smart phones and tablets.

Do you see more than ‘just’ PureView oversampling and lossless zooming or do you think Nokia has done a little extra again? OIS and Rich Stereo recording would be nice. Somehow getting optical into such a small space would be a nice combo.

For those who argue over 808′s zoom or optical zoom, one thing other devices cannot do is take one picture and then ZOOM later. You cannot capture as much detail as Nokia’s 41mp sensors on these competing smartphones. End of story. mmmkay?

Lumiappdates: Twitter, Weather View, Nokia Account and Hungry Now updated

MNB wp_ss_20130626_0001

A nice set of updates on my Nokia Lumia 920:

  • Twitter v2.2.0
  • Weather View v3.5.1.0 – a new developer has taken over the project. Mobverk now takes over responsibility so you’ll need to download the new version when you open the old app (which resets to v1.0.0.0) Fingers crossed my new live tile updates with weather properly.
  • Nokia Account v1.3.1322.2
  • Hungry Now v1.1.0.2
  • MNB wp_ss_20130626_0002
