Video: Snapchat app for WP, Swapchat hands on.

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 03:22 PM PDT

snapchat 2

We mentioned earlier today that a Snapchat client, Swapchat was in the works (along with Vine). Well here’s a demo of it in action.

Swapchat is going to be submitted in the store over the next few days.

Michael informs us that the Dev of Idstagram/Instance is also working on a Swapchat client. The more the merrier :) Passionate devs with third party social apps, I remember it was something to praise and be proud of on your platform. Remember Gravity? :)

Video LOL: Nokia Wireless Charging Plate sneakily pushing Nexus 4 off whilst charging :p

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 10:49 AM PDT

lol nexus 920

Maybe I’m in a weird revision mood but I found it funny to see this video where the Nokia Wireless Charging Plate slowly pushes off the Nexus 4 off its surface, as if to reject this non-Nokia heathen.

It works as it charges wirelessly via electromagnetism. The slippery glass surface has no friction and just slowly slides away. Other than that, it also works from the Nokia wireless charging accessory.

As per the comment in this video, the one that thought wireless charging was useless because you still have to plug in the charger or complaining that it’s not that much more difficult to plug in.

Well, it’s not the difficulty or the true wireless everywhere that this solves. It’s just that this type of wireless charging is super convenient. Just resting it on a table or a bedside table and my phone gets charged up – soooo convenient! Not having to plug something in seems like a miniscule achievement, but it’s more so how easy it is to just plop the phone down one handed and have your phone charge. Do you plug your charger in one handed?

Nokia Lumia 920 as MIDI Pitch Bender on Yamaha Clavinova.

pitch bender

Interesting app for musicians out there. Note how the Nokia Lumia 920 changes the MIDI pitch being played based on how its held.

This is also their first WP8 app.

Since everyone seems to be pushing large screen phones to ridiculous sizes, why not go all out and surpass even tablet sizes :p :p.

Lumiapps: Vine App created in 9 hours by developer, Rudy Huyn, release expected by end of week

More in the way of third party apps. A Vine Client (twitter’s video mash thingy) has been made by developer Rudy Huyn in a mere 9 hours apparently. It’s like cinemagraph with audio.

Snapchat coming to Windows Phone via Third Party SwapChat

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 08:27 AM PDT

snapchat

What have we learnt from Instagram? It’s nice if they make an official app but there’s developers out there willing to bask in the attention should 3rd party access be allowed (note how quickly Idstagram/Instance shot to the top of paid apps).

Snapchat is next. I’m soo old school I have no excitement for snapchat when my friends and younger ‘kids’ keep talking about snapchatting this or that. I pretend to know what they’re talking about. Excuse me whilst I go find my pipe and slippers.

Snapchat lets you send pictures/videos to your contacts which then quickly disappear after a set time. Apparently, it can be used like regular texts, just in image form sharing what you’re doing throughout the day (and not just the non-PG stuff you might have heard of). Whilst Snapchat might be working on a client for WP (they asked which OS to work on next some time ago) a third party version might be coming soon. If it fulfils the basics of the snapchat experience then that should be fine.

Nokia Music Updated to V 3.10; Brings Customized Music Profiles to Your Phone

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 02:14 AM PDT

DSC022861 (1)Here at MNB we’re huge fan of Nokia Music, and today our favorite Nokia service just got even better. Nokia Music was just updated to version 3.10, the big change in this version is the fact that the app now scans your phone’s music library to generate a “Music Profile” based on the music you already own; after which you’ll have personalized mixes available (based on the genre of the music you already own). Pretty awesome right?

Grab the app from the link below (in case god forbid, you don’t have it yet):

More growth for WP (Nokia) in UK, Germany, France, Italy and Australia. 8.4% in GB

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 01:42 AM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-06-03 at 09.31.42

More steady growth for WP. From the 3 months ending in April 2013, WP with the main pusher, Nokia, sees UK share climbing to 8.4%. from 4.0% the previous year.

  • Italy is at 10.5% from 6.7%,
  • France at 6.2% from 2.5%
  • Germany at 6.4% from 4.1%
  • USA at 5.6% from 3.8%
  • Australia at 5.1% from 4.1%

EU in general, 6.7% from 3.7%. Spain goes to 1.5% from 2.5% with speculation of better conscious pricing by competitors there. Apart from Spain, WP seems to be doing well.  BlackBerry makes a loss across the whole board. But that is year on year remember.

According to Kantar World Panel:

Nokia's Lumia devices were the key models driving success for the Windows OS.

The speed of growth is said to be important too:

Lumiapps: Nokia Smart Camera-lIke action lens – “Burton” for Lumia

Posted: 03 Jun 2013 01:30 AM PDT

BURTON

In case you weren’t aware of it, there’s been an app for Nokia Lumia devices that’s been available for a while that gives you a lens for your camera – the Burton Lens. This allows you to have action shots where you can superimpose a subject over several frames into one picture.

Nokia most recently showed the latest iteration with Nokia Smart Camera. The difference in terms of usability and quality is absolutely night and day. Nokia Smart Camera just takes a picture, and you can see all the frames together and just tap and add where you want the subject to appear with options to increase/decrease fading. In the Burton app, you take a video and then that gets processed and then you pick frame by frame (out of 11) the subject you want by painting it in and then process it. It’s cumbersome and the result isn’t always ideal. But it’s enough to impress friends of mine who don’t really expect shots like this to come straight from a phone.

So until you can get Nokia Smart Camera in the 925, you can try the Burton lens.

Note, the Nokia Smart Camera doesn’t just have Action shot, but Best Shot, Motion Focus, Change Faces (face swap, not demoed in this video) and remove objects. What’s even better on Nokia Smart Camera is by having it as the default lens, you don’t need to decide that you have to select it first.
