Software Update to Belle FP2 Device Brings Twitter/Flickr Photo Sharing Enhancements Posted: 02 Feb 2013 11:14 AM PST The guys at AAS are reporting a new update for Belle FP2 devices/808 which brings some pretty cool photo sharing updates to the gallery. The latest updates bring some much needed improvements to the Twitter sharing experience, where it now bypasses the need to log in to the horrid Nokia social app first. The same goes for flickr sharing where you can now share right out of the gallery. The update should be rolling out to devices now, but as usual it might take a while to reach a device near you. |
New Update to WP8 To Bring Back Flip To Silence? Posted: 02 Feb 2013 10:52 AM PST One of the cool features of WP7 that went MIA in WP8 was flip to silence/snooze; something I heavily abused every morning (and got about an extra hour of sleep out of). Unfortunately the feature hasn’t been in any WP8 device…yet. A new update spotted on Navfirm for the Lumia 620 seems to bring this option back as seen above. Users who flashed this update said it was slightly unstable but seemed to bring battery improvements as well as performance enhancements to the 620:

Weekend Read: What Microsoft Screwed Up in WP8; And What Needs to be Fixed Posted: 02 Feb 2013 10:27 AM PST The guys over at WPSauce.com have published a pretty interesting article about the honest shortcomings of WP8; and what features/things need to be added/fixed for it to be taken seriously; and honestly I agree with every item on that list (plus a few of my own). Here’re a couple of points they made; but be sure to check out the full list over HERE:
You can check out the full article here:
But while we’re on the subject here are a couple more of items that I think Microsoft dropped the ball on: 1- Voice dictation, where is it? Ever other OS (including the newly launched BB10) has it; why don’t we? Android has gone a step further and given us offline dictation; while all we have is the the option to dictate text messages (which BTW cuts off halfway through every sentence). 2- A proper music player- one of the idiotic changes in WP8 from WP7 is the music player for some reason now it decides NOT to remember your player preference (mainly to shuffle playlists); meaning every-time I have to select shuffle when i start a new playlist, it’s 2013; why isn’t there a :set as default” 4- A true voice assistant- let’s face it, Microsoft tell me is a JOKE; it’s nothing in the league of Siri; and I blame MSFT. Why not buy Ask ziggy and implement into the system like any normal person would. 3-A new Killer feature- It hurts me to say this but WP no longer has a killer feature, Android has Google Now, amongst some other cool OEM customization Apple has Apps and reliability. WP had the “the people hub” as an awesome feature; but it’s no longer unique, BB have done the same except made it look a million times nicer (and more functional). Instead of adding something killer in WP8 it seems the engineers spent their time fine tuning some stuff no-one has ever used (and probably won’t)- rather than finding a way to make it cool again,

Windows Phone 7.8 Not Coming to T-Mobile Branded Lumia 710s? Posted: 02 Feb 2013 10:18 AM PST According to an email over at WPC Nokia’s customer service have replied to queries about WP7.8 on T-Mobiles 710 with the response that some carriers have decided not to push it out to their users:
Of course as they pointed out this isn’t Nokia’s fault, but Tmobile’s who probably decided that the carrier testing wasn’t worth the trouble. Still pretty disappointing however all is not lost seeing how there are ways to manually force the 7.8 update; which you can find by a simple google search. |
Weekend Watch: Nokia Lumia 920 vs Samsung ATIV S Posted: 02 Feb 2013 05:53 AM PST Another comparison between the Windows Phone 8 flagships of Nokia and Samsung, the Lumia 920 and ATIV S. The screen of the 920 is set to be brighter and more natural, whilst the ATIV is less bright with more saturated colours. Both panels said to be really good, but with the Nokia, you can use gloves in cold weather.

WP Showdown; HTC 8X and Lumia 900 Show Up in “Revenge” Posted: 02 Feb 2013 04:30 AM PST While watching the latest episode of ABC’s “Revenge” I noticed that both a black Lumia (900 probably) and the HTC 8X showed up back to back in the same episode. I’m not sure if the Lumia was a paid placement, but the 8X was definitely a paid placement seeing how it got about 5 minutes of continuous screen time in the previous episode. I just really wish these product placements for Lumias used some of the more vibrant colors rather than the Black that blends in with the rest. |
