Invite: #ZoomReinvented After the Dark, Party in New York for New Nokia Lumia 1020/EOS #ZoomParty Posted: 03 Jul 2013 04:59 PM PDT This was just sent to my email address. I thought it was to let us know about the live stream but it’s for some events taking place in New York on July 11th… The Nokia EOS/Lumia 1020 is expected to have a 41MP sensor like the Nokia Hyperion, aka Nokia 808 PureView. It’s interesting to note the moon and the magnifying glass which notes some excellent low light but also great zooming performance. I wonder what it’s about, eh? This #zoomparty takes place between 7:30-10:30pm in the midtown area of NY. Those registering to get to the party have to be over 18. I’m not quite sure if it’s open to the public. The actual unveiling of the EOS takes place 11am, NY. Seems it’s a relatively new thing as there doesn’t seem to be mentions of a zoom party other than one other tweet (and then January 29th before that) OMG…The excitement. P.S. Happy 4th of July American Nokia Fans |

Bing Audio now available in 14 more countries Posted: 03 Jul 2013 12:53 PM PDT Most of you probably already know Shazam and Soundhound, two must have apps (or get just one, that's sufficient as well) for recognizing that great tune on the TV, in an online ad or in that great GoPro video you just saw. Now there is another great addition to music recognizing apps; Bing Audio. Microsoft's Windows Phone blog just announced that the service is coming to more countries around the world including; Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Denmark, Finland, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, and Switzerland. It is a pretty decent addition to the service that was only available in a handful of countries before. But why Bing Audio and not one of the apps you can get in the Store? Simple, it is fast. Really fast. Just hit the search button on your phone and the search screen opens. If you happen to be in one of the aforementioned countries you should now also have a small button at the bottom with a music note in it. Hit that and your phone should start listening for music. A more elaborate explanation how Bing Audio works can be found here. The benefit of it being native to your phone is not only speed, but there is also a direct link to buying a song in the Store whenever it is recognized. How convenient is that. So, no downsides then? Not really, but from the quick testing I've done, Bing Audio doesn't yet recognize all songs correctly. I've tried it with some more obscure songs and it either didn't recognize them or it thought it was an entirely different song. In that aspect Soundhound (and Shazam) can offer better results, so do keep those apps around! But, it is great to see some of the great Bing features being rolled out further than just the US. And it is one the quickest ways to recognize music and let's face it, time is essential when trying to ID a song. Source: Windows Phone Blog |
Lumiappdates : Wordament, Foursquare and Gym PocketGuide Posted: 03 Jul 2013 12:30 PM PDT The first two apps you’re most likely aware of, Wordament (popular word based Xbox Live game) and the checkin in social location app FourSquare. Both get an update. Wordament is updated to v2.5.1.0 and FourSquare to 3.0.36.0. Gym PocketGuide is an app I haven’t mentioned before but I downloaded it a while ago. It moves to v1.7 and features 5 new exercise guides and an option to sign up to the Pro beta version. It’s a guide for working out basically. |
Forbes: Nokia’s Phone Volume Mystery Posted: 03 Jul 2013 12:15 PM PDT An interesting article from Tero Kuittinen at Forbes. He postulates the Q2 numbers for Nokia’s feature phone segment, which has been in a vulnerable position since Androids continue to claw deeper segments where Nokia was once strong. This was the initial problem Nokia faced with Android during Symbian’s reign. For a while, it didn’t matter that the usability of Symbian was questionable or it didn’t seem as flashy. The iPhone was just too expensive for most and as were the rare and few Androids. The moment Android crept in to Symbian price range territory, that’s when we saw a lot of harm to Nokia’s numbers.
Nokia’s rearmed their fight using Windows Phone and for Tero, the numbers here isn’t what’s concerning him at the moment. It’s the ‘feature phone’ segment. More so since the Asha 501 which aims to stem that decline has only been released in June with limited availability. He says that might mean a good Q3 2013 but not so much for Q2. Another worry is the rumours that Apple will announce a cheaper budget iPhone. Apple has worked long and hard to be the ‘aspirational lifestyle brand’ that didn’t compromise on price but even they need to do something about the cheaper Android devices. Nokia’s entry level Lumias have been praised for being some of the best entry level smartphones available, getting recommendations to the tune of being precisely what entry level smartphones should be – low price, high end experience. With Qualcomm’s new processors, we might expect that to continue for Nokia as they push Lumia to lower and lower price points. How long until Lumia can fully take over the region of Asha series? Would that ever happen? It would certainly help in terms of the ecosystem bit. I think ‘disposable’ secondary handsets like the candybar 1xx/2xx series are safe for a little while though. Cheers jiipee for the tip!

Aiyo Wololo: MS Not bringing Xbox games to iOS or Android. Posted: 03 Jul 2013 11:52 AM PDT Remember the uproar this news caused amongst WP fans? Apologies for being late on the update but it seems that’s not the case. Apart from Age of Empires, MS has no plans to bring other Xbox games to iOS or Android.
It explains the confusion is due to a translation error. MS are “not bringing Xbox games to non-MS devices”. MS devices, things powered by Windows. Let’s hope for some love for WP eh MS? |

Nokia Teams Up With Imagine Dragons for “Nokia’s Artist Den” Music Festival Posted: 03 Jul 2013 09:12 AM PDT Excuse the excitement that I’m going through right now, but apparently two of my favorite things are coming together! Nokia are teaming up with the super awesome band Imagine Dragons for the Artist’s Den music festival. My reaction: Nokia are taking this as an oppertunity to promote the Lumia 928′s low light imaging and video capabilities (thanks to its Xenon flash) Check out a teaser of one of Imagine Dragon’s concerts recorded with the Lumia 928:
The concerts will be televised starting July 4th, Happy “murica day y’all And just because I love them here’s my favorite song!
