History Repeating Itself? Nokia and Samsungs Camera War Posted: 04 Jul 2013 11:22 AM PDT
Back when Nokia released the N95 in 2006 with the then revolutionary 5 megapixel camera, Samsung went ahead and introduced their G800 with 5 megapixels of its own and the slogan “Photographer’s choice”. No thanks I’ll pass. Then around the time Nokia released the N8 with its amazing 12 Mp camera (which remains to this day one of the best imaging devices out there) Samsung released the M8910 Pixar, with a 12 Mp camera. Once again Nokia killed it in terms of imaging performance, and Samsung’s device fell into obscurity. More recently (last year) Samsung pretty much gave up on the phone part of camera phones, and pushed out the Galaxy Camera, which was basically a point and shoot camera running android (and 4G connectivity), with the slogan”Camera. Reborn”. But surprise surprise, we were unimpressed with its results as it failed to beat the Camera king, the crazy 41Mp wielding Nokia 808
Of course we have yet to see what Nokia’s EOS will offer in terms of actual imaging performance, but if the past few years are anything to go by I think it’s safe for Nokia to mock Samsung’s attempts all they want. Of course even the best camera phone in the world would mean absolutely nothing if Nokia don’t market the hell out of it, so please Nokia; making a great device isn’t enough, don’t wait for people to buy it, you have to SELL it.

Pics: Detailed Lumia 925 Lens Assembly (High Resolution Images) Posted: 04 Jul 2013 10:14 AM PDT Here are some pretty awesome and super detailed/high res images of the Lumia 925′s lens/camera assembly for all you imaging geeks out there. When I think of a camera assembly in a phone I don’t think I ever realized exactly how many components are in there, that makes the feat of slimming down the Lumia 920 to the 925′s (8.5mm) all the more impressive. Now if only we had a couple of the EOS’s camera assembly; but then again I don’t think our little hearts could handle it. *Warning the images below are VERY large (some are 6 mbs) so be patient. |
Nokia Impresses With the Latest Lumia 925 & Zeiss Lens Adverts Posted: 04 Jul 2013 09:49 AM PDT

I love this type of advert which appeals to the consumer by actually explaining what makes these phones so awesome, plus it has the always appealing “truth factor” (it really reminded me of the Nokia promo with the “we’ve lost some battles” line). I’d love to see more of these types of adverts from Nokia, and not just on Youtube; but on TV and anywhere else they can get their hands on as well. It seems at least someone on the internet agrees with me:
There’s no reason simple billboards giving a deeper picture about the amount of technology in these phones shouldn’t be put up either. Hopefully Nokia will get it together before the EOS launch and get their marketing team in gear for a proper launch. |

Nokia EOS/Lumia 1020 may actually be called Nokia 909 Posted: 04 Jul 2013 08:04 AM PDT
Apparently the Nokia EOS, which was said to be called Nokia Lumia 1020 may in fact be called Nokia 909, following the lines of the previous 41MP Beast, the Nokia 808. So, it’s still a 9xx series but it’s lower than the released 920/925/928 despite having a super advanced camera. Hopefully that won’t confuse people. The naming system of Lumia is getting confusing now. It might be easier to market. Nine oh Nine. Nokia Nine oh Nine. I’m liking the Ns. What would the successor be? What’s the 1020 then? Does it even exist? Is the 10xx series a totally different thing? Source: @evleaks |
Nokia EOS/Lumia 1020 coming to UK by August 2013? Posted: 04 Jul 2013 07:02 AM PDT CNet UK says their sources indicate the Nokia 1020/Nokia EOS is coming to the UK next month (August) 2013. Precise words were ‘roughly a month’. CNet were worried that as an AT&T launch, it might be a US exclusive (the only ‘unique’ exclusive handset for the US so far has been the 928 right?). It would be the first proper taste the UK will have to a 41mp sensor since we didn’t really get to see the 808 here. I can’t wait to see it and experience what it does on the imaging and video front Source: CNet |

Note the large circle for the huge camera sensor. Nice Xenon Flash present with an LED (probably for focus and video lighting). 41MP noted. Also notice the two pins (not three? huh) for wireless charging at the bottom.

LeakyLeak: At&t Branded Lumia 1020 (EOS) Shows Off “Pro Cam” Posted: 03 Jul 2013 10:07 PM PDT As if we needed anymore confirmation that the 1020/Eos is a killer camera phone, the latest press shots show off a new app called “Nokia Pro Cam” what that is we don’t know for sure. But it’s a safe bet to assume it enables deeper setting changes (like the 808′s camera UI) and maybe even sliding your finger to zoom in? The phone has the At&t branding and apps on it, which confirms our suspicions and rumors of it being an At&t device all along (Eos = Elvis (for At&t) = 1020) https://twitter.com/evleaks/status/352613545365606401
