Gallery: Nokia Lumia 1020 sample pics vs Nokia Lumia 920 Posted: 20 Jul 2013 12:40 PM PDT There are some more image samples comparing the Nokia Lumia 1020 against the Nokia Lumia 920 over at WPCForums
Not sure if these are the original image sizes since they seem to be rather small. Although the 920 was criticised for perhaps being too saturated at times, I found that in low light, this sometimes wasn’t the case and some colours looked slightly pale/washed out. The 1020 colours look consistently punchy and sharp. Oddly, the f/2.2 bokeh in the 1020 is even more pronounced than the f/2.0 920. Thanks to comments: bokeh is affected by aperture and sensor size. The depth of field appears to be so narrow in the 1020 that whilst the main person in the picture below is in focus, the bits at the back are already fuzzy. Note the same thing in the Mario picture.
The level of noise in the 1020 seems to be concerning some. Here’s a nice sample. Not sure where this is from. Is it one of the official samples?
It’s hard to discern the detail due to the images being reduced in size. Cheers Viipottaja for the tip! |

Sexy Black Lumia 925 Photoshoot Posted: 20 Jul 2013 03:09 AM PDT The Lumia 925 is without a doubt one of Nokia’s best looking phones ever produced, and I thought my white/silver one was pretty hot; but the black O.M.G. I’m instantly jealous! I’ve never been a fan of black phones since they seemed so drab, but WOW! Nokia have made black interesting again, I’ve heard some people mention that after Nokia bashed everyone else for making “black dull phones” they went ahead and did the same with the 925 (and the 1020 only being available in yellow as an “abnormal” color), but let me say this; if all black phones look like this who needs colors? (I think it’s the lighting but the metal on the black 925 is also silverish right? and not black?) Check out the full gallery posted by reddit user amancarlos at the link below: |
AAWP: What percentage of apps are incompatible with 512MB RAM devices? Posted: 20 Jul 2013 02:02 AM PDT Rafe Blandford from AllAboutSymbian and AllAboutWindowsPhone takes a look at what proportion of apps are actually incompatible with 512MB RAM devices.
331 apps are not compatible with 512MB devices. Games make up the most of this category (65). Interestingly, 199 of the 331 apps come from two developers alone. Rafe says, “Excluding the results of these two developers would give an incompatibility percentage of just 0.088% (less than one in a thousand apps).” An odd thing some have noticed through a ’store hack‘ is that despite the 1GB RAM limit, games still played perfectly fine according to user reports on 512MB RAM devices. (Perhaps there’s some other long term performance limitation imposed by MS). So it’s mainly games that might swing a user from putting in a little more for a 1GB RAM device – at least so they don’t have to wait for developers to optimise their games for 512MB. The situation of specification based app incompatibility is an issue found in BlackBerry and Android devices too. In the case of Android, they do however counter that by having a greater number of available apps.

Gallery: Nokia Lumia 1020 vs Nokia Lumia 920 Posted: 20 Jul 2013 01:36 AM PDT Here’s a comparison gallery between the Nokia Lumia 920 and the new 41mp Nokia Lumia 1020. From the front, they’re pretty much identical. The only hint that they’re different is the fact that there’s a wrist strap/lanyard coming out of the 1020 (which would not be noticeable if you took it off). In contrast, it’s all different from the back. The pillowy curved glossy rear of the Nokia Lumia 920 meets an instantly attention grabbing ceramic black circle and a matte finish. It’s personal preference as to which finish is better. Some feel the gloss is more premium others think that’s the matte variety. Having used the 920 in gloss, I think matte might be preferable in terms of having less noticeable scratches? And it also feels better in the hand due to the added friction. Whilst the camera is a very subtle part of the 920′s design, the 1020 is all about the camera. The wireless charging is built into the 920 so you can’t see anything visual to indicate that capability. On the 1020, there are two dots for the attachment of a wireless charging shell. Taking out the wireless charging and other internal improvements have meant that despite that 41mp sensor, the Nokia Lumia 1020 is actually slimmer, lighter and easier to hold. This is easier to see with a white 1020. The underside shows the speaker grille on the 1020 is just on one side but more than double the size of the one found in the 920. That doesn’t mean anything regarding the actual speaker quality. Inside that speaker grille of the 1020 is one of the two stereo recording microphones. The microUSB slot is the same, but there’s now a lanyard/wrist strap slot at the bottom. There’s no industrial looking screws on the 1020 either.
The position on the buttons at the sides are identical |
