NokConv: HAAC Rich Recording and super high amplitude (loud) recording. Posted: 10 Apr 2013 12:05 PM PDT
Nokia has always been the company that got audio recording to high quality levels when all others (and 99% still do) ignore it. I remember my old N93 in crystal clear stereo audio vs the tinny, harsh, .3gp style ‘chav-video’ audio of the competition. In the Nokia 808 PureView, Nokia introduced rich recording with ‘High Amplitude Audio Recording’ or HAAC. If you’re in concerts, your audio will remain pristine and clear. We’ve shared many Nokia recorded videos that demonstrate how good the sound is compared to the competition. Now HAAC isn’t available in camera/audio-visual centric devices. These are also making their presence on the WP8 Nokia Lumias. Check out NokConv’s article on HAAC as well as the whitepaper that details this innovation from Nokia.

Nokia Lumia 920 is the most popular Windows Phone, Nokia deservedly dominating 80% of WP marketshare Posted: 10 Apr 2013 11:35 AM PDT AdDuplex’s most recent report shows the Nokia Lumia 920 is the most popular WP, with data based on 494 apps running adduplex SDK http://blog.adduplex.com/2013/04/adduplex-windows-phone-statistics.html Nokia is quite deservingly controlling 80% of the WP market, holding their lead that they quickly took when first entering the WP World. In a short space of time, the Nokia Lumia 620 is hot on the heels of the 820. In the US, the Nokia Lumia 822 is the top WP at 22%, the 920 closely following at 20%. WP8 is now 43% of all WP, with WP8 growth accelerating. Clearly, Nokia’s efforts show that they can differentiate from other WP manufacturers despite the ethos on being similar in terms of UI interaction. Nokia’s innovations are pushing through. Where Nokia dominates, they eclipse everything else. But even the worst places, Nokia isn’t doing that badly.
However, there’s a smartphone ocean beyond this WP pond. Cheers ms.nokia for the tip!

Lumiappdates: PDF Reader and HDR Photo Camera updates Posted: 10 Apr 2013 12:40 AM PDT Quick heads up.
Our favourite alternative reader has gotten yet another update. Also HDR Photo Camera, an app I started using on the weekend got updated. This one is an especially useful update as it minimises blur by hand shaking (which is enhanced even with OIS in the 920 because it’s taking 3 photos).

WP to support 1080p displays on newer 5″ phablets by year end; WP Blue by 2014 Posted: 09 Apr 2013 11:12 PM PDT
The ever reliable Tom Warren from TheVerge says that Microsoft will be updating Windows Phone to support 1080p resolution on newer 5″ devices. Well hurradidah! Finally.
These devices are set to debut for the Holidays. Something else more interesting that I’ve missed (my uni schedule got even more hectic :/) is WP Blue for 2014.
