GoComics App Released for Windows Phone 7&8; Comes in Stride with iOS and Android Versions Posted: 21 Apr 2013 10:07 AM PDT Today calls for a minor celebration, GoComics app has been released for Windows Phone 7 and 8; bringing the full archives of the most beloved comics to your phone; including Garfield, Calvin & Hobbes (my absolute favorite), Peanuts, Dilbert and many more. Even more important is the fact that the app was released for iOS, Android and Windows Phone simultaneously! Could it be that WP has finally been cemented in and recognized as a true competitor OS? Only time will tell but I sure could get used to this immediate apps to WP deal.

Here’s a quick demo of some XboxLive titles available to play on the Nokia Lumia 520. Although WP is very consistent in user experiences from the high end to the lower end (fast, fluid, reliable), the differing RAM quantities do often mean some limitations for the lower end handsets at least when it comes to newly released games not yet optimised for 512MB but instead requiring 1GB. One such example is Asphalt 7 Heat – an update to that game subsequently meant compatibility for devices like the 520. It’s somewhat slightly like the 610 fiasco but not as terrible.

In this video, WPC looks at a third-party app with enhanced voice commands like Ask-Ziggy. Now, the built in voice commands in WP8 have been improved slightly over WP7.5 but we’d definitely welcome some more versatility, such as being able to set alarms or initiate tracks or even enabling the features shown by Indigo below. The speech patterns and input appear to be very natural, with Rich speaking in a regular conversational tone as you would a person vs a computer. Now as a quick reminder, we know that MS has boosted Tell Me’s accuracy, so that speech recognition works in many more situations, eliminating/reducing input error. Perhaps in addition to bringing better voice commands, MS might also bring system wide dictation by voice?
