Nokia’s Next Camera Flagship; the Details

Posted: 15 Apr 2013 09:10 AM PDT

DSC02380A source familiar with Nokia’s plans has shared some details about Nokia’s upcoming imaging flagship with us; the device has been rumored for ages now; with only one constant- that it has a killer camera.

According to our source Nokia are currently working/testing on two different models of the EOS, which have the same specs but a different processor a: Dual Core version , and a Quad core running the latest Snapdragon 800; the main issue appears to be the poor battery performance of the quad core variant which might ultimately lead to releasing a dual core variant. This does ring true, seeing how the Lumia 720′s product managers themselves have told us that they tested out a 1ghz, and 512mb versions of the phone; so it doesn’t seem too far-fetched to hear of a Dual/Quad core version of the same phone being tests, especially with the latest rumor of GDR3 brinign Quad core support.

The EOS is said to have a similar battery to that of the 920 (2000 mAh), alongside a similar screen resolution; with the exception of it being an Amoled screen; which is once again strengthened by the recent leak of the 928′s Amoled screen; and the low power sleeping screen support in future updates. In regards to actual camera performance the EOS should pack a similar camera sensor to its predecessor, with a  41MP sensor, Xenon & LED flash, OIS and possibly a Variable Aperture lens (like the N86) also mentioned is a more detailed camera UI similar to that of on the 808 (something we caught a glimpse of earlier today).

Currently it doesn’t appear that the EOS will support 2K or 4K video recording, but it remains a possibility in the future; ultimately it would depend on the processor/GPU as well as where the market goes with this technology. Also said to be included is an FM transmitter, Expandable Micro SD slot (mandatory for a true camera phone) and possibly a Micro HDMI out port.

The EOS is set to be an At&t exclusive upon release, with a global release following 1-3 months after, although multiple rumors support that it was ready at MWC but was delayed for unknown reasons.

Recap:

  • Dual/Quad Core
  • 41Mp, OIS, LED, Xenon
  • +/- Variable Aperture
  • FM Transmitter,
  • Amoled 1280 x 768 screen
  • 2000 Mah battery
  • detailed camera interface
  • initial launch on At&t

Lumia 928 Replacement Screen Shows up online; Packs a Super Amoled Display

An online phone parts supplier ”Etradesupply.com” has posted a replacement screen for the Lumia 928 on its site. The replacement screen is actually larger than the Lumia 920′s by a good 5 mms; but appears to bring back the symmetry in the device that so many of you want. The screen is a Samsung-made 4.5″ Super AMOLED rather than the PureMotion HD+ LCD of the Lumia 920.

The inclusion of a Super Amoled display in Nokia’s latest phone would make sense, seeing how Always on sleeping screens appear to be making a comeback.

The snapchat team are apparently looking to support a new platform, as seen in their survey.

“Or just go to Snapchat -> Support -> Technical Support -> My device is incompatible :( -> Windows Phone and add your email address (if you want to be notified).”

Snapchat is that photo/video sharing app to share between friends real quickly (it only appears for a few seconds and then disappears)

Nokia to bring new “Smart Camera” Lens to Lumias in PR 2.0 update

Posted: 15 Apr 2013 12:29 AM PDT

We’ve heard for ages that PR 2.0 would be the update that brought the always-on screen and double tap to wake feature, just like we have on the N9. Now, it seems we have a leak of a new feature; Nokia Smart Camera Lens.

This new lens is reportedly going to “provide options that allow the user to control shutter speed, manual white balance and other advanced camera options”. Hopefully, this will have the same sort of “tweaking” that we saw on the 808 PV. Its actually one thing that I dislike on my Lumia 820. The lack of camera controls. I know its not a camera hero, but come on, the N8 had, the N9 had it. Even the N95 had it to some degree.

Seeing as we are only on PR 1.1 (Portico), I doubt we’ll see this any sooner than July. (Knowing Nokia’s timeframe, it will probably be September to coincide with Nokia World). Here are a few screenshots that Unleash The Phones managed to get their hands on.

Are there any features you hope to see come to Lumia device running WP8? Let us know in the comments below.
