Nokia’s Aluminum Bodied Catwalk Surfaced? Posted: 17 Apr 2013 02:20 PM PDT What we’re looking is supposedly the first ever pictures of Nokia’s lightweight answer to the Lumia 920; the catwalk, an aluminum bodied device that brings a fresh change on the fabula design. All I can say is I hope not; in my opinion this is one of the ugliest things to grace the internet; it reminds me of Huawei’s windows phone (yeah I forgot they had one as well): Interestingly it seems to have a uni-body design without the wireless charging internals, instead it has the same 3 pin connector on the back that we see on the Lumia 720; obviously a weight cutting measure. Also note the re-positioned micro USB port at the top of the device, which would make this the first WP8 to NOT have a micro USB port at the bottom. It’s possible I’m being a bit too harsh, but the ugly grey on the back of this phone is honestly repulsive; maybe it’ll look better in black or white? Or maybe it’s because I wanted it to look like this so bad? What do you guys think? hot or not? |
Video: Lumia 920 vs. 820 OIS Shootout on a Bumpy road Posted: 17 Apr 2013 02:08 PM PDT Our buddy SamPullen did a nice video comparing the Lumia 920 with its OIS video recording, against the lumia 820 on one of the Shire’s bumpy roads; check out the results down below:
For the sake of science here’s the same recording but with the 920 and 820 clips reversed

Accessories: Nokia charging plate into DIY wireless car charger Posted: 17 Apr 2013 09:08 AM PDT
More and more people are getting into the creative mood and embedding their Nokia wireless charging plates into all sorts of places. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen one done for a car but it is (for me) the first time they’ve done it embedded into the car parts. Not bad Via @Nokia |

It was back in July 2011 when we heard of MS’ ambitions of getting 100 million Windows Phones per year. I’m not sure they sold even half that for 2012 but even so, MS is still aiming high and now apparently to 200 million per year (not sure what year – they never did say when the 100m/year would be achieved either). When asked about making their own phone, Terry Myerson says they’ll keep the current model with the OEMs, not producing their own phone unless Nokia/HTC does not meet the consumer experience WP needs (ahahahahaha, MS. YOU are the one not producing the consumer experience WP needs. YOU are the only one hampering your own damn Windows Phone experience. YOU and your 1st gear, handbreak on approach at life! Maybe You should get someone else to improve and develop WP for you at the pace it needs, with the awareness it requires to implement experiences that should have been there, what, years ago?) MS is apparently also working with facebook to bring Facebook Home to WP. On the app front, Myerson’s keeps pushing on about how WP has the top 48/50 apps (It should have the top 200 – or more!). Moreover, he apaprently disses the stagnant iOS and the mess in Android. Well that’s all well and good if YOU are making SWIFT progress yourself, Microsoft. Are you? Are you really? Is your WP team of one sloth ever going to leapfrog what you clearly saw was a stagnant iOS and a messy Android or are you somehow, knowing the enemy’s weakness, continue to lock your feet on the ground so you can perpetually stay behind and enjoy the half-arsed attempt at playing catch up? GSM Arena reviews the Nokia Lumia 520 – “Best Buys…can’t match the Finnish value for money” Posted: 17 Apr 2013 08:28 AM PDT The Nokia Lumia 620 wowed all with it’s high end approach to the entry level smartphone. At MWC Nokia pushed that further, not with new flagships but higher quality than normal entry and mid range devices. The Nokia Lumia 520 is the most affordable WP8 phone, but is it simply just cheap? No – GSM Arena calls it Best Buys, comparing it against the likes of the 8S from HTC which has similar specs, GSM Arena says copypasta can’t match the Finnish value for money. Not simply the hardware alone, but Nokia’s suite of exclusive apps. Cheers Lud and Alvester for the tip! |

TheVerge reviews the Nokia Lumia 720 – “The Lumia Design I’ve been waiting for” Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:54 AM PDT

Overall scoring Tom Warren is loving the deisng of the 720 and wishes Nokia’s future high end fits into a similar package, resulting in a winner.

Lumiappdates: FlashVideo (+TubeMusic) Updated for WP7/WP8 Posted: 17 Apr 2013 12:45 AM PDT Although like iOS and new batches of Android, WP doesn’t support flash but it doesn’t necessarily mean you can’t watch flash videos. (Various sites, like youtube have updated to HTML5 so the player can view them). Anyway, we’ve shown an App called FlashVideo that allows you to watch a whole range of Flash videos – both can either be streamed or saved onto the device for later viewing. It just finds a link to a flash video and off you go. The update dated yesterday makes the app use more streamlined. You can drag that timeline anywhere and it resumes pretty much instantly. |
