Nokia Nostalgia: Nokia Necklace, the Nokia Medallion I (And Medallion II Nokia watch/locket) Posted: 01 Apr 2013 04:00 PM PDT
Yesterday we saw the Lumia Locket. A wearable accessory as part of the jovial April Fools pranks. A MNB commenter, ‘efekt’ pointed out that Nokia actually has a wearable digital necklace – the Nokia Medallion. Actually they have two. The Nokia Medallion I and Nokia Medallion II. Below is the Medallion I. The squareness screams Lumia tile, no? :p
In ‘action’. [source] This harks back from 2003. The manual is still available at Nokia’s servers.
What was it for? Mainly as a fashion accessory to carry pictures, aka, a digital locket. It came with one of the latest new features for 2013 – infra-red :p.
Note the removable straps:
The removable strap continued on with the Medallion II. This was less cumbersome, more like a real locket.
Moreover, you could use it as a watch. So for all them concepts of Nokia Watches, they actually had that product. Here’s an ‘unboxing’ [source] Oh Nokia, so ahead of your time. :p

Lumia Locket – Live Tile Necklace with Windows Phone (April 1 from WP) Posted: 01 Apr 2013 11:43 AM PDT
April Fools from @WindowsPhone comes in the form of these Lumia Lockets – Necklaces with WP tiles. Now since they’re US based at the time of posting they were still before 12pm (you usually don’t post the prank afterwards, unless you’re already just discussing the prank as we are). As a single screen locket with tiles, that could actually work (or as a wearable watch). |
Any Love for a Mint Green Lumia 920? Posted: 01 Apr 2013 08:34 AM PDT First off this IS NOT real, and that sucks; cause I would buy the hell out of this phone! I know a lot of you have been asking for green Lumias (besides the 620); and Nokia Jordan posted this on FB with the caption “April Fools”. Although it’s admittedly a very lame joke (as there is no real pranking going on) I can’t help but think how awesome this phone looks! But why oh why couldn’t they have made the tiles match So Mint Green 920 Yay or Nay?

Snapchat Working on a WP App; Talks in progress Posted: 01 Apr 2013 08:25 AM PDT I’m not gonna say we told you so, but we kinda did; on twitter Snapchat have replied that they want to make a version of the popular app for WP. And are actually planning on meeting some WP team guys to see if their “vision” is supported. For those who haven’t heard of it Snapchat is an app that is used to send pictures that delete themselves within a specified time limit (Ex 1 minute). This is of course a great app for planning a surprise party for your significant other; or for flash card style studying (here at MNB we have innocent minds). |
Leakyleak: Sleek New Nokia Ashas (N9 Minis?) Posted: 01 Apr 2013 06:31 AM PDT Narrowing the gap further between the colourful Lumia and foundation Asha handsets come these colourful new Ashas that were said to be like ‘mini N9s’ Evleaks says:
Check out the home button which seems to be a back button too. All these rectangular rounded corners looks a tad iThingy though that comparison has been done to death with every rectangle/round corner device now. Update: We are told there are two devices, one with a physical button the other with capacitive. If the back is like we saw before, it’ll be very N9/Lumia/Fabula filled.
Interaction wise, it’ll be full of Swipe and other things from the N9.

Posted: 01 Apr 2013 02:15 AM PDT If Flipkart is anything to go by, the newly available Nokia Lumia 520 appears to be doing well there, climbing straight to number two. Also present in the top 8 of this list is the Nokia Lumia 620 (as separate colours, white and black).
The Nokia Lumia 620 is relatively new there too but almost catches up to the 920 regarding number of positive reviews. Via: WMPU Cheers manu for the tip!

Windows Phone continues to make gains, says Kantar Worldpanel Posted: 01 Apr 2013 02:09 AM PDT
Data from Kantar Worldpanel ComTech USA's consumer panel says Windows Phone continued to make gains with up to 4.1% of smartphone sales. That’s up from 2.6% in the previous quarter.
Both Android and WP grew at the expense of iOS which was said to be down a consecutive period. Update: In UK, Kantar says WP is up to 6.7%, up 3% from the previous year. Nokia’s share finally beginning to show gains, holding 5.6% of the market.
Cheers Muerte for the tip! |
BaconIt just got a whole lot more AWESOME – April Fools Day prank included Posted: 01 Apr 2013 01:55 AM PDT BaconIt, arguably one of the most popular app for Windows Phone has pulled off an April Fools Prank in true Reddit style. When using the app, it will flicker green and give you an error code, pretty much saying Windows Phone has crashed and you need to do a system restore. I’ve seen the prank first hand and it is really something funny! Take a look at the screenshots I grabbed.
Good stuff guys! Have you seen an app with an April Fools prank? Let us know! |
Video: Nokia Seidhr – Google Glass competitor in Metro style Posted: 01 Apr 2013 01:29 AM PDT
No, no, the day’s not done yet. There’s more. Here’s Recombu’s hands on with the Nokia Seidhr, a Google Glass competitor with Metro. Now this isn’t a me-too product since Nokia’s had augmented reality glasses concept before google (though never had one physically to show). Here’s what it looks like ‘in real life’.

Lumiapps: Tuenti, Spanish Social Network available in store Posted: 01 Apr 2013 01:08 AM PDT Early in March, Tuenti, the Spanish invitation-only Social Networking app (with 14 million users) was spotted early in Nokia’s app highlights. It’s now available in the store. http://www.windowsphone.com/en-us/store/app/tuenti/3d8673c4-06fb-4… Source: WMPU
