Weekend Watch: Nokia’s twitter follower list into wall art – did you make it? :) Posted: 19 Apr 2013 04:00 PM PDT Check this out! At first I was like, “What’s this artsy fartsy thing they’re doing now” but when it came to the reveal it turns out the graffiti was in the shape of the Nokia Logo, containing Nokia’s 400,000+ twitter followers. Can you see your name on there? It’s a great idea. I might give this a go with our twitter and facebook follows Check our Ricc Webb too, previously WOMWorld-Nokia/Nokia_Connects, now Pure Nokia .

Interactions Concept: Tangible Alarms Through NFC Posted: 19 Apr 2013 02:40 PM PDT While at MWC a couple months ago I got a chance to meet up with the winners of Nokia’s 3D printing challenge; in case you missed it the idea was to make the most “useful” 3D printed shell for the Lumia 820. One of the winners was Victor, whose concept was 3D printing your house key into the back of the phone for quick and easy access; his winning design was made into an actual product. *You might have spotted Victor in our race across Barcelona treasure hunt Victor shared his latest idea with me the other day, and I thought you guys would like to see it; the concept is for a tangible alarm clock on phones, by interacting with a “plate” through NFC, but rather than reading about it, check out the video demo below:
Basically the plate beneath it changes the phone’s response depending on where it’s positioned, and changes the reaction accordingly; I personally thought it was a really cool concept, and would love to have this sort of thing in my future devices. However I couldn’t help but get bothered over the fact that the girl in the demo had to plug-in her phone, slap some wireless charging on this and you’d have an instant hit! In fact it’s almost the next logical step of progression after making wireless charging plates; make the plate even more useful! It does bring back some memories of flip to silence on the good ‘ol N8 (which is rumored to be making a comeback soon in PR2.0) This is the sort of innovation that the mobile world could really use, rather than fighting over meaningless specs I think the little things like this make the bigger difference, where it’s obvious that the thought process behind it is to simply make your life easier.

Beta Labs: Nokia Storage App (extended functionality from 1308 update) Posted: 19 Apr 2013 01:50 AM PDT Something many Lumia owners have been talking about lately is the new firmware update that brings Nokia’s Storage Check app. Over at Beta Labs, they’ve extended the capability of this app. One of the best features, in my opinion, is the ability to now move Maps to an SD Card (where SD Cards are present). This is a great option for people like myself, who have a Lumia 820, needing as much space as you can for Apps (until they allow you to install apps on SD Cards). Note, you’ll need the 1308 update or higher! Here’s what the Beta Labs site has to say about the new app.

Accessories: DIY Nokia Fatboy pillow wireless charging bed for Nokia Lumia Posted: 18 Apr 2013 11:26 PM PDT
The Fatboy pillow is a luxury bean bag bed for your wireless-charging capable Nokia Lumia. Inside it, as we have shown before, is a regular Nokia Wireless charging plate. A Nokia Lumia 920 user’s wife thought she’s make her own and this is the result. The paperclips are there whilst they wait for some velcro. These are just an old pair of trousers for material, and the inside is polyfill (just packing polyester, like the stuff inside a teddybear or a pillow. The actual fatboy have beanbag beans since Fatboy is a high end bean-bag company)

Posted: 18 Apr 2013 11:16 PM PDT Hello, hello! It’s a press shot of the Nokia Lumia 928 complete with front, back and side views. Check out the Carl Zeiss/PureView branding at the back, that gorgeous xenon Flash, the 4G LTE for Verizon (branded at the front). Mmmm. So…does this give any more strength to rumours that it will launch next week ? :p

Metrogram and Instagraph join forces to make one Instagram app! Posted: 18 Apr 2013 11:06 PM PDT Whilst we wait for Nokia to bring Instagram officilly to the platform we have some alternatives. Metrogram was an app to view photos published on Instagram. Instagraph was a work around app that let people publish their photos to instagram. Both teams are said to be working together and with their powers combined we have Captain Planet…I mean…a more unified experience. It appears that initially you might still need both apps but each will open the other automatically. This is to bring faster updates. Eventually there will be one app. Source: WPC Cheers Derrek for the tip!
