@WindowsPhone wants help and unfiltered photos in launching something big. Instagram imminent?

Screen Shot 2013-11-18 at 22.04.57Windows Phone just tweeted asking folks for help on launching something big. For this, they’d need an unfiltered photo that captures who you are.

The past week or so there’s been rumours that Instagram is launching sooner than expected. It’s been a will it won’t it, with instagram and with third party apps like 6tag and instance, there hasn’t been much need for the geek for the official app. But for regular joe and reviewers, it’s nice to have instagram there.

So, what’s a bigger WP launch than Instagram eh (well app wise, other than the other features we want to see in WP as well as some other unique WP things we hope we’ll be surprised with). Plus they’re asking for unfiltered photos. Instagram for most is all about filters. I try to keep my uploads filter free.

I don’t recall an official date being given by Nokia. They also talked about Vine which is already here.

Ah thank goodness for blogging. :) Needed a quick distraction from revision before going to bed. Aargh exams. :o

TheVerge and Engadget review the Nokia Lumia 1520 – “The Best Windows Phone yet”

Quick heads up on these two reviews as I’m stuck with revision for exams…

Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2013/11/18/nokia-lumia-1520-review/

TheVerge:http://www.theverge.com/2013/11/18/5116360/nokia-lumia-1520-review

There’s been much said in the previews about how awesome the screen is but it really seems to be fantastic, with TheVerge calling it one of the most beautiful displays. It’s also super fast too. WP is already fast on dual core and even single core so quadcore is really quite something. I agree on wanting to make more of the real-estate. The extra tiles is just one side. It’s fingers crossed WP8.1/Blue brings some

The Engadget review is a lot more in depth btw, really goes into a lot of the nitty gritty.

Gizmodo wishes Nokia Lumia a happy birthday, says “Don’t Stop Being Awesome”

There’s a Happy Birthday post over at Gizmodo wishing Nokia lumia to keep at it, at stay being awesome. Their post looks into the history of Nokia, how they took a leap of faith with WP. Whilst financially it’s not seen as an immediate success, Gizmodo says the sales are more encouraging, surpassing blackberry and making sure WP/Nokia Lumia is that third ecosystem.

They want Nokia and a third ecosystem in this race. We’re told that the only interesting hardware battle in 2013 has been due to Nokia and “their near dominance in the smartphone camera industry”. But more than cameras, Giz recognises that Nokia has been pushing the boundaries of quirkiness, stuffing new features (innovation) because consumers might want them (and they’re actually features thought about on a usability stand point, such as screen readability outdoors or being able to use gloves).

Another thing Nokia Lumia gets praise for is creating “cheap phones that don’t look and feel crap”. Something that some competing manufacturers have realised and are starting on making intruding on low end Lumia territory.

Where does it go from there when MS in in charge of the devices division? Hopefully, that spirit to innovate, to be daring, to bring quality will remain.

Ewan Spence  for AAWP continues the praise and calls the 800 the phone that allowed WP to survive.

Cheers Alvester for the tips!

Wireless portable charger on the go, Nokia DC-50

NokConv has a feature on one of their cool new accessories, the Nokia DC-50. The wireless charging capabilities Nokia introduced to Nokia Lumia got even better when this was announced at Nokia World. A wireless charger that was actually wireless itself. Bring it out and about to wirelessly charge your Qi enabled Nokia Lumia.

You can charge up the portable charger like other portable chargers via MicroUSB or you can go QiCeption and put this wireless charger, on a wireless charger to later wirelessly charge your wireless charging enabled Nokia Lumia. “Yo Dawg, I heard you like Wireless Charging…”

I’m guessing when on the plug, as well as charging the portable charger, you could use it as a conventional charger and recharge a phone wirelessly? Though that wouldn’t be good for the DC-50′s battery health.

The only usability issue would be to make sure the phone stays on the wireless charger (e.g. if left in a bag) as I sometimes do with conventional wired portable chargers.
