PhoneArena puts Nokia Lumia 920 as the hottest smartphone of the year, Ahead of Galaxy S4, HTC One, Xperia Z, and iPhone 5

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 02:43 PM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-03-19 at 21.39.20Seems phonearena fixed their poll that showed the Nokia Lumia 920 obscenely ahead of the competition with over half a million votes, pushing it to about 97%.

That didn’t matter though as it appears they’ve had to accept that the top votes still go to the Nokia Lumia 920, (as you can see by their title, they still had to some how crown the S4 – props where its due though, I also like the S4).

Nokia Lumia double-decker bus touring Britain

Since most people probably can’t come to a Nokia Store or Lumia experience booth, let it come to you in this decked out double decker Lumia bus.

At least if you’re in the UK. It’s a pretty swanky and swish set up inside. It reminds me of the little London office with Lumia stuff that I visited last year, except this one’s all mobile.

It’s a demo showroom as well as training room.

This should definitely have that low light box that’s available in the bigger London office (the one that shows off the 920′s OIS)bus4 bus3

Microsoft uses Nokia Lumia 920′s OIS PureView Low Light to show off Windows Phone

Screen Shot 2013-03-19 at 21.24.19Remember those smoked by WP videos? Well something akin to that are the new TV ads from MS in their Windows Phone challenge.

Oddly though, this isn’t a ‘Windows Phone’ feature. It’s a NOKIA feature.

Good on MS for recognising how good the 920 is compared to other WPs (especially from the other competing manufacturers).

“Say hello to the Nokia Lumia and say goodbye to bad smartphone photos”. Kudos MS. That’s good. Help your best partner out :) . Talk about unique features if you need to. Nokia needs all the marketing help they can get.

Cyan Nokia Lumia 920 available to Telstra (Australia)

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 02:23 PM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-03-19 at 21.19.44Early this morning, Justin tipped us on the Nokia Lumia 920 being available to Telstra Australia in the classic Nokia Cyan, something that was previously an exclusive to AT&T.

I couldn’t find the story on Teltra’s blog (or any other indication) but just came across a facebook link on reddit.

https://www.facebook.com/9322764314/timeline/story?ut=69&hash=-5785698908216331741&wstart=0&wend=1364799599&ustart&refid=17

What is your favourite colour?

Nokia Lumia 920 is now available exclusively to Telstra in Cyan (that’s blue!)

Cheers Justin!

@WindowsPhone gently reminds all that WP8 is upgradable now it’s on the Windows Core

Upgradable to what? :)

Although we’ve been skeptical ourselves of recent MS activity, @WindowsPhone wants to remind those doubtful (and rightly so) that WP8 is definitely indeed upgradeable. Not simply small updates but major changes.

Whilst support may end for a particular ‘version’ of WP8 (8.0) when it updates, (8.1, 8.5, 9.0, blue) that support cycle resets (though we can’t always guarantee that your network will push the update).

As we've said, one benefit of moving to the Windows core is that Windows Phone 8 is upgradeable.

And as we ourselves have said before, although you might expect it to be obvious, what with MS’s track history, it’s nicer to have things like this spelt out (and said again and again).

Tip: Using Kids Corner to Get Awesome Panoramic Lock Screens on WP8

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 08:12 AM PDT

0b575512a7cc6de6428bdd0e320b7d46We mentioned this before, but those of us without kids might think Kids Corner would be pretty useless, however as we previously mentioned there are some pretty cool uses you can make of it, rather than just a place for your kids to mess around.

http://mynokiablog.com/2013/01/29/alternate-uses-for-kids-corner-on-windows-phone-8/

Well here’s another cool idea coming from reddit, the idea is simple, set two images that complete each other as lock screens; one for the default screen and one for the Kids Corner. That way when swiping to the right you get a panoramic effect that’s simply pretty cool.

To get you started here’s a mini album of images that have already been split into two for the perfect panoramic effect: http://imgur.com/a/nTiy1

Earlier today Jay posted about the new updates for Skype on WP8, which brought back the People hub integration for contacts, as well as the new support of HD video calls:

Well here’s a quick demo of the new HD video calls (it looks pretty awesome to me) as well as a quick rundown of the new features.

Joe Belfiore Teases New Apps Coming This Week; First to be Announced Tomorrow

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 06:59 AM PDT

DSC02086

Not everyone like Joe Belfiore, but you can’t deny he does know how to keep an audience engaged (sure he seems a *bit* too over the moon about taking screenshots on your phone, but he seems pretty cool). In his latest tease torture he says:

https://twitter.com/joebelfiore/status/313895102651183104

https://twitter.com/joebelfiore/status/313897162415144960

https://twitter.com/joebelfiore/status/313897642319044608

Last time he teased an upcoming app we finally got Photosynth on WP8, this time around it seems that They are a load of apps coming at once (perhaps one per day?); with the first to be announced tomorrow morning (usually he announced the apps once they’re available in the store, and not just “working on it” so hopefully we’ll have something new to play with tomorrow).

And in case anyone thought he was referring to the new Skype update, he wasn’t :)

Dare we dream that one of these apps is instagram?

Stylus Wielding Purple Nokia Lumia Edit: Just a MyDreamNokia

Posted: 19 Mar 2013 06:46 AM PDT

487627_549592458395606_1694685472_n I’m not saying that WP India just posted a picture of an unreleased Nokia product; but they did post a picture of a product that doesn’t exist….. yet.

The post was about using Microsoft One Note and Office on WP with the caption:

A Manicure and facial, picking up the kids, kitty partying, shopping with the girls… the list is endless! Women are busy bees; to organise it all Windows Phone brings you OneNote! http://spr.ly/6033nWrZ

However it is worth pointing out that no WP till now has come with a stylus – which is usually reserved for phablets nowadays (I don’t know if WP can even support pressure sensitive styluses) plus that Nokia render looks like no currently released Nokia. It looks a lot like the 800 but with a front facing camera, and of course it’s in purple (And a WP8 device).

This probably isn’t an upcoming product, but it sure does look good, what do you guys think?

EDIT: Whoops, looks like this was one of the dream nokia’s we posted a while back… this is embarrassing :P (thanks for pointing it out Peter :D )
