nokia-music-app-detailed-explained-8

Over the weekend, my Lumia 820 got an update for Nokia Music, which I noticed included an option to subscribe to Nokia Music+, for AUD$4.99. Yesterday, Nokia Australia confirmed the rollout in a press release (below).

In case you don’t know, Nokia Music+ has several benefits over regularly Nokia Music, including:

  • infinite skips
  • unlimited offline mixes
  • lyrics
  • listen to Nokia Music via PC/Tablet

Press Release:

Get more from your music with Nokia Music+

-Nokia adds new subscription-based music service and personalised radio app for Nokia Lumia users-

Sydney, Australia – 26 March 2013. Nokia today launches Nokia Music+, a new subscription-based music service for Lumia users for AUD$4.99 per month.

Nokia Music+ builds on the existing Nokia Music Mix Radio service allowing users to access a wide number of playlists curated by an expert team of musos and international artists.   Nokia Music+ also introduces features like infinite skips.

Other features of Nokia Music+ include:

·         the ability to download unlimited mixes for offline playback

·         the option to select higher quality audio when connecting via Wi-Fi or through your network

·         access to lyrics for those impromptu karaoke sessions

·         the ability to listen and enjoy via Internet-enabled devices including PC or tablet

Nokia Lumia users can upgrade to Nokia Music+ from their handset by selecting 'Nokia Music' from the main file menu, click on 'Settings' and there will be an option to 'Upgrade'. You can select 'Nokia Music+' to activate the subscription then click on 'Mix Radio' to start downloading your playlists.

Users interested in trying out the new service can sign up for a free seven day trial.

There's more good news for Lumia and Windows Phone 8 users.  Pandora, a new personalised radio app, is now available in the Windows Phone Store.

Pandora is a free, personalised radio that lets you play music and comedy. Users simply need to start with the name of their favorite artist, song, comedian or composer and Pandora will create a custom station that plays similar tracks.

Pandora is ad-free, for free only on Windows Phone 8 until the end of 2013.

The more Nokia exclusives I see comments from consumers, be it Nokia developed apps, Nokia exclusively brought apps, Nokia specific WP features, Nokia support, Nokia design, Nokia hardware the more I see how peeved they are that they’ve ended up using WP on any other platform other than Nokia.

Over at PC Advisor, they’ve stacked up all the latest smartphone competitors. Astonishingly (or not) the winner is the Nokia Lumia 920.

This was based on a poll to which the 920 gained 32% of the votes.

Access Point and Feedback to nokia Updated for Wp8

Once again “Access Point” on Windows Phone 8 lumias has been been updated (with no visible changelog); also updated is “feedback to Nokia”. Although there is no changelog I can’t help but notice that Access point keeps getting unlisted updates, and I’m not even exactly sure what it does; but could there be some bug Nokia’s trying to fix?

Nokia Transit for Asha now in Beta (Asha Full-Touch) #Here

Screen Shot 2013-03-26 at 12.45.08The extremely useful Nokia Transit app (Still not called Here Transit for Asha huh?) is now available for Full Asha Touch devices.

Nokia Transit gets you from A-B using public transportation. It tells you even how to get to a bus stop (through walking directions) tells you what bus service/train service to catch, how to get to a station, where to stop over etc.

Double tap to wake and FM Radio coming to Nokia Lumia 920 and 820?

Posted: 26 Mar 2013 05:31 AM PDT

Screen Shot 2013-03-26 at 12.26.13@Joao Luis C tweets that the double tap to wake as seen in the Nokia N9 is coming to the Nokia Lumia 920 and 820. This was a very nice feature in the N9 as you could tap the screen twice to wake it up as opposed to pressing the lock button on the side. A nice option to have .

Further more it seems that the FM Radio is going to be activated. The hardware is there but for some reason, it didn’t make an appearance to the end user.

I’m not sure where Joao has got this information from but it’s a more than welcome addition. We need more, not only from what was great from Nokia in the past but to integrate new and highly requested features that Nokia hasn’t had yet.

Update: This is also another source:

http://www.theverge.com/2013/3/26/4148200/windows-phone-8-update-fm-radio-support

MS is working on bringing back FM Radio (why it disappeared in the first place, makes sense possibly only to MS). Nokia is also bringing their own addition to the next ‘minor’ update to WP8, including the aforementioned double-tap to wake.

Other additions include:

  • Flip to silence (return of)
  • Lumia colour profile (screen calibration)

Available in ‘the coming months’.

Now I also want always on standby screen from Symbian/N9. Yes, it might need AMOLED (but I’m sure some older Symbian devices with LCD had this option, no?)

Cheers Ilama for the tip!

MNBFR0022 MNBFR0021 MNBFR0027We got an email from Aslan Abioqa, a keen photographer with a penchent for Macro photos.

You can check out his work using a DSLR here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/abioqaas/

As well as the email, we received a gallery, the compressed version you can see below.

The original zip file can be downloaded here:

Hi Jay,

Just thought I’d drop you an email since you sometimes feature reader photography on your site.
I’m an avid photographer and enjoy many types of photography. My passion is macro for which I typically use Canon EOS500D and 60mm macro lens. You can find some of my “real” photos in Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photos/abioqaas/
However normally I’m not walking around with my DSLR so I enjoy using whatever I have at hand, and of course typically that is my phone. I’m attaching my best Lumia 920 shots to this email. Most of the pics have been edited in Fhotoroom and the RC pictures have been edited on PC using Adobe Lightoom 3.
Sorry for the big attachment!
best regards,

Aslan
