Rumour: “New Nokia N9 Mini is coming.”

Posted: 22 Mar 2013 12:14 PM PDT

We’ve received the following tip from a source we’ll refer to as anonymous. Take this information with a pinch of salt.

You may have heard the mentions of a Mini N9 every now and again, perhaps either when the news of Meltemi arose or later perhaps as you saw the new Asha’s with a very MeeGo-Harmattan esque swipe.

We’re told below that the new Asha’s are evolving towards becoming more N9-like. That’s no surprise really since we’ve been told plenty of times by Nokia that they’re taking a lot from the N9 and putting them towards future products. Now remember back during MWC when the design language for the new Asha series was leaked?

The source claims to have seen that product.

I have seen new Nokia Asha phone which was leaked a few weeks ago around MWC event.

The phone design looks beautiful and you can say it’s new Nokia N9 Mini version.

New features are as following:

Phone has 3 different screen.

1) Menu Screen
2) Notification Screen.
3) Application screen.

You can switch to different screen with swipe gesture. And it’s not like previous Asha phones, it’s real swipe like we have seen in N9

1) Single hardware button at front.
2) User Interface is inspired from N9 in all apps. (like clock, calendar, settings etc.)
3) Screen resolution is 240×320
4) Various controls for Touch Screen Brightness, Double Tap to Unlock.
5) In notification screen you can see notifications from various apps from like facebook, twitter etc.
6) Dual SIM, 3G, Wifi etc.

Phone runs so smoothly and fast and also play animations and transitions like we have seen in Lumia Range.

The sad thing is that the phone still do not run multiple apps

Just a little Nokia Lumia advertisement @ one of the busiest tourist spots in Dubai

Here’s a Nokia promo ad/stand supposedly in a very busy tourist place in Dubai.

There seems to be devices and accessories there and a polaroid blank frame for people to take photos through I guess.

The pic was taken with a 920.

MNB-RG: StatCounter baffled by Finnish Series 40 data, seems to adjust

Posted: 22 Mar 2013 10:19 AM PDT

statcounter

If you remember a previous post on StatCounter Finland, you might have noticed somehow S40 demolishing iOS and Android. Statcounter’s finally noticed the anomaly as Janne describes (cheers Janne):

StatCounter has posted a note regarding the sudden rise of measured Series 40 traffic in Finland. Their note (screenshot included) implies that proxy servers may not be the reason, but the reason is unknown.

Screen Shot 2013-03-22 at 17.15.32
While the note does not reflect any resolution, it seems that Series 40 data has still been adjusted to at least somewhat lower levels than it used to be, so clearly something has been changed on StatCounter’s end.

A bit of mystery, then. My money would still be on Nokia’s proxy servers for Xpress Browser, though.

Nokia Germany Offering Free Wireless Charging Plate With Lumia 920 or 820 Purchase

Posted: 22 Mar 2013 09:38 AM PDT

4dbe061998ced6853611352dacc4bcffNokia Germany have a promotion going on their Facebook page which entitles people who bought the 920 or 820 to a free wireless charging plate, by relying on my non-existent German skills it seems the offer is only for people who purchased a device after March 18th and is valid till April?

Either way if you’ve bought a 920 or 820 (or plan on buying one) a free wireless charging plate is always a good deal. You can sign up/claim your plate from their Facebook page:

Alternatively you can pick one up from Amazon for around $40: Nokia DT-900 Wireless Charging Plate

Microsoft Claims They Have “Some Say” in Nokia Lumia Designs

Posted: 22 Mar 2013 09:14 AM PDT

DSC01507Previously we’ve heard about Nokia’s influence over Microsoft in terms of software; and how they were able to influence some decisions (such as the camera UI features and others). Well now it’s Microsoft’s turn, claiming that they have “some say” over what goes into the device and its hardware:

“Our relationship is so close we get hardware early and we have some say in how these things are designed,” explains McGee. “I am very happy with the relationship and the ability to influence what they are doing.”

According to the Verge although Microsoft backed the 8X and 8S with the WP8 launch (which was obviously the wrong horse), they are gearing up to push Nokia’s next handset (yes the elusive Lumia 928 heading to Verizon).

Video: Elop Tosses Talk Show Hosts iPhone to The Floor; Promises to Replace it with a Nokia

In a recent interview with Elop on Finnish TV (check out Jay’s blow by blow commentary in the post below if you haven’t seen it yet), the presenter showed Elop his iPhone and said he wants it to be a Nokia. Through the magical powers of tossing a phone across the room Elop promised to replace it with a Nokia (the presenter was hung up on the Lumia 928).

Is it just me or does Elop seem more “charismatic” and not his usual all professional self? He seems quite relaxed in fact.
