LG Optimus 4X HD Gets First Benchmarks, Impressive Ones Too Posted: 11 Apr 2012 03:43 PM PDT After the HTC One Series devices got benchmarked, rumored, leaked, announced and release, LG Optimus 4X HD is also ready to enter the market, but before that it has a bunch of benchmark leaks. This would become the second quad core handset on the market, that will immediately be compared to the Tegra HTC One X… Will it win? Let’s see the first tests! LG Optimus 4X HD is a Tegra 3 smartphone as well, one that managed to impress the folks of Techblog.gr, who put it through the Quadrant benchmark, the AnTuTu tests and NenaMark 2 as well. In Quadrant the device scores 4,512, while in AnTuTu it reached 11,147, more than the HTC One X, apparently. Meanwhile, the NenaMark2 score is a bit on the unimpressive side, but still manages to reach a good 44.5 fps. One must know before judging that the phone’s software isn’t finalized, so there’s work to be done here and optimization too. As usual, we advise you to buy a phone depending on your own experience with it, not only benchmarks and theoretical marks. LG Optimus 4X has a 4.7 inch 720p display, 1.5GHz quad core Tegra 3 processor, 1 GB of RAM and 8 megapixel camera, plus Android 4.0 ICS as the OS. What’s not to like? This model will debut in May in the UK at least, while the US date has yet to be announced. Related posts: |
Nokia Lumia 610 NFC Officially Announced (Video) Posted: 11 Apr 2012 05:31 AM PDT Nokia has just announced the Lumia 610 NFC handset and just as the name says, this is the NFC version of the low end Windows Phone model. The announcement came at the WiMA NFC in Monaco, a congress meant for global NFC applications and services. Orange will be the carrier to offer this device on the market, starting with Q3 2012. The NFC feature allows for seamless connections with NFC accessories and the ability to read NFC tags, plus perform NFC payments and rely on ticketing solutions. Nokia Lumia 610 NFC is certified for contactless payments on MasterCard (PayPass solution) and on Visa’s mobile app for payments, Visa PayWave. Windows Phone doesn’t support NFC right now, so Nokia had to come in and offer a special software built on top. Nokia Lumia 610 NFC is the eight NFC smartphone that Nokia introduced over the last 2 years. The rest of the specs of the Windows Phone device remain unchanged, including the 3.7 inch 480 x 800 pixel display, 8 GB of storage, 256 MB of RAM, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps, 5MP camera, 800 MHz CPU and A GPS. There’s also a Li-Ion 1300 mAh battery on board, good enough for 10 hours of talk time. Related posts: |
HTC One S Ceramic Case Gets Chips and Scratches (Video) Posted: 11 Apr 2012 05:20 AM PDT It seems that the average user has been finding chincks in the HTC One S ceramic “armor”, as shown in the picture below. If you’re paying a couple hundreds of dollars for a smartphone you may not want it to look like that after a bunch of days of use… right? Also, the person posting this photo assured everyone that he/she didn’t drop it on the floor. When HTC showcased the One Series they detailed the nifty ceramic coating its new devices got. Staying away from the standard metal and plastic cases, the Taiwanese maker chose ceramics, that’s great because it’s got low weight and high strength, plus it doesn’t cause signal problems. HTC One S gets its ceramic coating through a process called micro arc oxidation, that’s detailed below. Basically it uses electricity to turn the aluminum layer of the case into a thin ceramic. The result would give you a material stronger than steel and capable of resisting abuse. However, chips and scratches have started to appear on at least one or two One S units. I can say only this: if after one week of ownership your phone looks like that, how will it look a year from now? I’m pretty sure that this is an isolated case, since I can’t really imagine having such brand new and fragile phones out there… Related posts: |
Nokia Lumia 900 Gets Fix for Memory Management Issue; Buyers Get $100 Rebate! Posted: 11 Apr 2012 04:48 AM PDT Unlike some other companies out there, Nokia didn’t pull a “you’re holding it wrong move”, but instead admitted the issues that the Lumia 900 model is having and promised a fix for it ASAP. Finnish company admitted that there’s a memory management issue going on with the software of the phone, in the case of some units. These devices seem to prevent the user from connecting to the Internet somehow and they don’t have to do with hardware or the AT&T network. Nokia said that the fix will be ready on April 16th and that the the guys and gals who bought the Windows Phone model will be allowed to download the fix or swap their unit with a working one. Nokia US chief Chris Weber also claimed that the company is already shipping new versions of the Lumia 900 with the fresh software on board to AT&T stores. As a bonus, Nokia promised those who bought the handset a $100 rebate even if their phone is affect or not. Since the handset costs $99, this means that the smartphone is available basically for free with a 2 year contract, a great offer for the Lumia 900, no matter what anyone says. This applies to the people who buy the phone before April 21st. Related posts: |
