Nokia Lumia 900 Gets Update/Fix for Its Problems Posted: 14 Apr 2012 05:12 AM PDT Nokia kept its promise and delivered the update for the Lumia 900, that fixes its problems. You may remember that the first sales of the device were followed by some unlucky users complaining about a software bug that doesn’t allow them to connect to the Internet. Well, that’s taken care of now. This reminds me of the problem that Nokia Lumia 800 had initially, when its battery was drained very fast. While Nokia’s update then didn’t fix much, the following update did and now I’m curios what the feedback will be for the Lumia 900 new patch. Nokia is keen on reminding everyone that this is a mere software issue and isn’t related to the phone hardware or the network. They also offer a $100 AT&T bill credit to everyone who already purchased a Lumia 900 or will purchase one before April 21st. How about this good will gesture? I have to hand it to them, they sure know how to promote their gear: concerts, billboards, skyscrapers, quick bug fixes and great PR. The MS and Nokia PR machine is working fine. Must be those $100 million working… Keep in mind that you can also exchange your Lumia 900 unit with a working one if you don’t want to update. Related posts: |
Nokia Lumia 900 Pictured in Magenta, Ready for AT&T Posted: 14 Apr 2012 04:45 AM PDT Nokia Lumia 900 has been getting a lot of promotion lately, either through that $99 price tag, through concerts and lately even through $100 in free money from Nokia for the folks who had problems with this phone. Now, there’s a magenta version of the handset for AT&T. This product is supposed to arrive on time for Mother’s Day, that falls on Sunday, May 13th. Plus, AT&T usually release products on a Sunday, so this fits. The proof regarding this flavor of the Lumia 900 comes from wpcentral reader Clyde V, who noticed the phone with this pretty case and the AT&T logo on it. It was present on one of the demo screens advertising the new Nokia device. At first sight, it could be an average blue/black Lumia 900 with a tight magenta case, but if you look closer, you’ll that it’s not a case. The Lumia 800 came in white and then it was followed by a glossy white Lumia 900 soon (that will actually launch on the 22nd this month) and now we have a magenta Lumia 800, so the follow-up of the larger mode is logical. Anyone getting the handset in magenta? Related posts: |
HTC Unveils 3 New HTC Desire Models With Android 4.0 in China: VT T328t, VC T328d, and V T328w Posted: 14 Apr 2012 02:45 AM PDT Boy, don’t we just envy the tech enthusiasts in China? Turns out that there will be no less than 3 new HTC Desire models launched in China over the next weeks and two of them are dual SIM units. These devices run Android 4.0 and they’re the following models: HTC VT T328t, HTC VC T328d and HTC V T328w. The VT T328t will be available on China Mobile and it’ll come packing a 4 inch S-LCD WVGA display, Android 4.0 + Sense 4.0 and a 1 GHz single core processor. Add to that Beats Audio, 512MB of RAM, a 5 megapixel camera, 4 GB of storage and a microSD card slot and you’re all set. Meanwhile, the HTC VC T328d will reach China Telecom and the V T328w will come to China Unicom, with pretty similar specs, but changed designs. These two are actually dual SIM models, in case you’re wondering. Right now we only have the pricing for the T328w, that’s $318, a reasonable amount for a new low end-ish Android 4.0 handset. You should expect the trio to hit the stores locally before the end of the current month, but sadly there’s no chance we’ll ever see them outside of China. Related posts: |
LG Optimus LTE Renamed Optimus True HD LTE, Don’t Expect True HD Resolution! Posted: 14 Apr 2012 02:12 AM PDT Remember the LG Optimus LTE handset we’ve reviewed here? Well, the device appeared in the news yet again, this time getting ready to launch in Hong Kong at the end of the month. However, this time it will be rebranded as Optimus True HD LTE. And although the name is True HD, don’t expect 1080p resolution from its screen. The True HD part of the naming was put there to rub it in the face of Samsung, that’s praising its own HD Super AMOLED technology on the Galaxy Nexus and Galaxy S II HD LTE. Of course, LG’s 1280 x 720 PenTile screen doesn’t count as truly HD because of the low number of sub pixels, but they’re never shy to attack AMOLED’s exaggerated colors and higher power consumption and propose LG technology instead. The South Korean firm revealed that its AH-IP{S screen has a very good power consumption, so it’s much more efficient than Samsung’s technology, especially across varied levels of whiteness. Of course, we love how crisp the Galaxy Nexus was, but having also seen the LG Optimus LTE I can’t say the two are that different… maybe the Galaxy Nexus is a bit more vibrant, I’ll give you that much. I expect Samsung to reply its rivals with a real True HD screen, maybe on the rumored 1080p Galaxy S III?! Related posts: |
