Verizon Keeping Busy in the Following Weeks/Months With Galaxy S III, RAZR HD, Mystery HTC “Note” Posted: 26 Apr 2012 04:30 PM PDT Not only is Verizon gearing up to launch the Samsung Galaxy S III, but also a mystery Note model from HTC, that might prove to be their very first phablet. Jonathan Geller of BGR claims that he came across some very interesting info, that says Verizon will launch the following devices in 2012 and its flagship units. First of all we’ve got the Samsung Galaxy S III, announced on May 3rd and speculated to be turned into a Droid phone or even skipped, in previous weeks. Now it appears that the handset will be adopted and rumors say we should expect it in shops this summer. Next up is the recently leaked Motorola RAZR HD, the bigger resolution twin of the Droid RAZR, that also brings the 3,300 mAh battery of the RAZR MAXX and relies on a 4.6 inch 720p screen, a 13 megapixel camera and dual core 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 CPU. LTE will also be on board obviously… And finally our special guest is HTC Note, a device that’s supposed to compete with the Galaxy Note, LG Optimus Vu and other 5 inch phablets. Of course Note is a mere joke codename for the project and we’re not even sure it exists. Rumors placed on its specs list a 5 inch 1080p screen, quad core Snapdragon S4 (?!) with Adreno 320 GPU and HTC’s Scribe pen technology. Which of these do you fancy most? Related posts: |
Samsung GT-I9300/ Galaxy S III Manual Leaks Posted: 26 Apr 2012 04:09 PM PDT After a hands on video of the Galaxy S III leaked, followed by some pictures and a teaser from Samsung, now just days before the official announcement of the phone we see its manual leaked. Shown as the GT-I9300, the device is the Android 4.0 quad core flagship we’ve been waiting for. Just hours ago Samsung also confirmed that the new Galaxy S model will have a quad core Exynos processor, a 1.4GHz unit, in spite of this leaked manual mentioning a 1.5GHz one. This official service manual also includes Android 4.0 ICS, HSPA+ 21 Mbps connectivity, an 8 megapixel camera with LED flash and a 4.8 inch Super AMOLED display without mentioning the resolution. Other stuff included here is the AGPS, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi, OTG and support for 1080p video capture. The handset also features an accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity sensor and barometer. People close with the matter say that we’re dealing here with a phone that has a new generation of Super AMOLED display and as you can see we also get a Home button, in spite of the previous leaks’ lack of such a design trait. Sadly there’s no 12MP camera to have fun with… but I advise you to wait for May 3rd when the phone is announced and then feel sad. Related posts: |
Apple WWDC 2012 Starting June 11th, Tickets Sold Out in Two Hours Posted: 26 Apr 2012 07:25 AM PDT Apple announced that this year’s WWDC 2012 series of conferences will take place between June 11th and the 15th, with tickets going on sale hour ago. It took a mere two hours for them to be sold out, showing that the public and developers are really excited about the opportunity to see iOS 6.0 in action. Of course, we can only speculated that this is what we’ll see there, but it’s very likely we’ll see a new iOS release and some new MacBooks, maybe even a new iPhone, iPad Mini or even TV. A ticket for the WWDC 2012 event costs $1,599 and you can expect tons of sessions for developers, demos, workshops and more. People have already started speculating on that logo of the event, a bunch of coloured squares that are unified. This may mean a total platform unification, so maybe an iOS to bring together the MacBooks, Mac computers, iPads and iPhones? Anyway June will be a fantastic month, with Apple’s new iOS demo, Google’s I/O event with Android 5.0 included and if I’m not mistaking Nokia’s special summer event that may include the Windows 8 tablet they should be working on. It will be a great summer and I can’t wait for it to start! What are your expectations for WWDC? Related posts: |
Samsung Announces Quad Core Exynos Chip, The Brain of the Galaxy S III Posted: 26 Apr 2012 04:00 AM PDT A week from now Samsung will be holding that mighty press conference in London to announce the Galaxy S III flagship phone. We’ve already seen a teaser for the device, plus some leaked pictures of dummy units and hands on video with what looks like a prototype. And now we meet the official chipset of this device, a quad core Exynos. Known as Exynos 4 Quad, the CPU is a quad core unit with 4 ARM Cortex A9 cores, that can be clocked at 1.4 GHz. This technology is not like the one on the Tegra 3, where the cores’ frequency is scaled simultaneously, so they run at the same speed. Instead Samsung’s solution allows each of the cores to have its own clock speed. Qualcomm is also doing that with the Snapdragon S4 famous chipset that’s present on basically everything these days. The advantage of the new Sammy technology is that it uses 20% less power than the dual core Exynos inside the Galaxy S II. The Exynos 4 Quad is built using 32 nm transistors, an evolution from the 45 nm ones of the 4210 Exynos generation. The new processor promises a PC-like experience when it comes to graphics, great performance and efficient energy management. These were all detailed by Hankil Yoon, Senior VP of Product Strategy Team, Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business. I really can’t wait to see the result in action! Related posts: |
LG P936 Announced in Germany, Rebranded to Optimus True HD LTE Posted: 26 Apr 2012 01:12 AM PDT Remember the LG P936 we reviewed here? Well it’s entering Europe now, since it’s just been announced in Germany, where it’s been rebranded to LG Optimus True HD LTE. Sadly, there’s no true HD in the mix here, since the handset only has a 720p display, so I don’t quite get this name. The device has the same 4.5 inch IPS 720p screen as the Optimus LTE launched in Canada and the LG Nitro HD available on AT&T. The Optimus True HD LTE comes with a dual core 1.5 GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera and a 1.3MP front shooter. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is the OS of choice and an Android 4.0 update is scheduled to take place ASAP. LG didn’t say when the product will become available in Germany, nor did they mention the price. If you wonder what a LTE phone is doing in Europe, know that there are carriers in Germany that provide this service: O2, Vodafone and T-Mobile. From what I remember back in the days when I reviewed the phone, the display is very crisp, camera is decent and the texture at the back feels pretty nice. The handset is also reasonably thin and not so heavy in the user’s hand. Are you getting one or would you prefer the HTC One X? Related posts: |
FaceVault iOS App is as Close to Face Unlock as You’re Going to Get… For Now (Video) Posted: 26 Apr 2012 12:42 AM PDT Romanian developer Robert Neagu created an application called FaceVault, that’s used to unlock your iPhone using face recognition, but only for a special locker area on the device. Once again, this is not a method to lock or unlock your phone’s main functioning mode, but only that photo locker. We found out about this nifty little app from our sister site Mobilissimo.ro The app is powered by the Face.com recognition engine and will provide reports for people who tried to break in and use their face while you weren’t there. Biometric face recognition is used here and you can choose between login with your face or with a pattern, as the backup method when the light conditions are unfit. There’s also the option to organize your photos into unlimited albums, an optimized transparent UI for photo viewing and multitouch control in the app. You can store private photos or import and export them to and from the Camera Roll and share them via email. Keep in mind that you’re required to have an active internet connection to perform the recognition and this app only works if you have a front camera. There’s a video demo of the software below and a download link over here: Related posts: |
HTC One S Available on T-Mobile for $199, Doesn’t Include Beats Headphones in Spite of Poster Posted: 26 Apr 2012 12:14 AM PDT HTC has already launched a new model on Sprint, one that for a while looked like a combo between the One X and One S. Now the HTC One XL is preparing for AT&T debut, while the HTC One S is ready to take over the network of T-Mobile. The carrier will sell the thinnest HTC Phone ever for $199 on contract. This version on T-Mobile won’t have the micro arc oxidation case of the international model, but instead you get a blue gradient finish, if you’re into such design details. Reasons to get the One S are plenty, from the 4.3 inch Super AMOLED qHD screen to the 1.5 GHz dual core Snapdragon S4 processor, 16GB of storage and 8MP ImageSense camera. There’s also 1GB of RAM, 25GB free cloud storage on DropBox and Android 4.0 ICS as the OS + HTC Sense 4.0. T-Mobile also allows customers to trade in their old phones for credit, so you get this handset in the promotion. If I’m not mistaking, as usual with T-Mobile the 4G they advertise on the poster here is actually HSPA+. Right about now would be a good idea to trade your HTC Sensation/Sensation XL/XE model for this beauty, especially because of the performance, hot looks and great camera. We all know how poor the Sensation camera was… Related posts: |
