Mozilla’s Boot to Gecko OS Will Come in Early 2013 (Video) Posted: 20 Apr 2012 03:33 PM PDT Mozilla’s Boot to Gecko OS project is evolving pretty fast, even fast enough to now get an early 2013 commercial release time frame promised. Keep in mind that actually this isn’t the first OS based on web browser technology. For example, the webOS user interface was made in HTML and JavaScript, so basically webOS was an overevolved web page, if you want. Mozilla wants to go the same path with Boot to Gecko, with Gecko being their rendering engine. The difference here is that while Palm kept the OS to themselves, Mozilla wants to make it completely open source and allow everyone to contribute as well as they can. They’ll also have a bunch of operators and hardware makers on board to aid them compete with Android. With iOS number one, Android number two and Windows Phone gunning for number 3, does Boot to Gecko intend to become number four? I’d say Bada OS gets that spot, or is it Symbian? Anyway, the list of operating systems is long and new ones are coming up, like the Tizen initiative from Samsung and partners. The first Boot to Gecko devices are expected to come out in early 2013 and confirming this is Mozilla CEO Gary Kovacs, who made the announcement in Sao Paulo. No idea who will make the devices, but we know that Telefonica is on board with the project. Related posts: |
HTC One X Bundled With Beats Audio Earbuds on Vodafone Romania Posted: 20 Apr 2012 05:14 AM PDT HTC One X, the quad core phone that everyone’s talking about may come with a mere Beats Audio branding on the back and normal headphones, but in Romania it’s not quite so, as we learn from the Mobilissimo Forum. It appears that local carrier Vodafone Romania will bundle Beats Audio headphones with the device. The handset has been reviewed here at GSMDome.com this week and we found its audio capabilities mediocre, but maybe with these headphones it will be cooler. I wonder what other carriers in Europe or on other continents will continue this special offer and just in case you’re wondering, the smartphone costs 199 euros with a 2 year contract and 559 euros without one, on Vodafone Romania. Vodafone also publicly announced and confirmed the special offer both for the white and black One X models. This may be somewhat of a selling point for some users who crave for top notch audio quality and regret that the speaker on the One X is not that loud or clear. Anyway, you may want to look out for other Vodafone branches, since they may start offering the same deal soon. Let me remind you that this is the HTC One device with a 4.7 inch 720p display, quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor, 8MP camera, 32GB storage and Android 4.0 + HTC Sense 4.0. Related posts: |
Samsung Galaxy S III Caught on Camera in Vietnam?! (Video) Posted: 20 Apr 2012 03:33 AM PDT We’ve got a fresh leak of our usual special guest, the Samsung Galaxy S III, straight from Vietnam. Courtesy of local site Tinhte the year’s most awaited smartphone was filmed and analyzed in front of the camera, as shown in the video below. We’re dealing here with a quad core phone indeed and one that looks uglier than we hoped. It appears that the specs upgrade from the Galaxy S II is quite minor. The source of the leaked video claims that this is the GT-I9300 model, that was associated with the Galaxy S III in the past. They also mention some specs for it, like a 4.6 inch 720p display with 320 DPI density and a quad core 1.4 GHz processor, probably of the Exynos kind. Android 4.0 ICS, 1GB of RAM and an 8 megapixel camera are also on the specs list, plus a microSD card slot and a 2050 mAh battery with NFC capabilities, just like the Galaxy Nexus. Honestly speaking, this model doesn’t offer much extra compared to the Galaxy Nexus, so it’s much of an upgrade for it as the iPhone 4S was to the iPhone 4… and still people bought it. And what about the leak from last week saying that there will be a physical home button?! Where’s that? And what about the ceramic case, 1080p display, 12MP camera, 32GB storage and no microSD card? I tend to believe this video is fake and that this is in fact a Galaxy S II Plus version or something… [viddler id=3cee268d w=545 h=307] Related posts: |
