Lava XOLO X900 Intel CPU Phone Coming on April 23rd

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 01:05 PM PDT

The first Intel-powered Android phone is a model that will be arriving on April 23rd and that’s the Lava XOLO X900, a phone coming to India with the Medfield CPU on board. The device costs $424 and it brings Gingerbread as the OS of choice. Here’s the device, which is only a beginning of Intel’s offensive on the smartphone market.

XOLO X900 features a 4.03 inch 1024 x 600 pixel LCD screen, quad band HSPA+ connectivity and an Intel 1.6GHz Atom Z2460 processor. There’s also an 8 megapixel camera on board and the promise of an Android 4.0 ICS update soon. Intel promises a burst mode capable of capturing 10 pics in less than a second, plus 1080p video recording, so it may end up being a camera better than the one on the HTC One X, for example, at least in the burst mode area. There’s also a 400 MHz GPU in the mix on the Lava XOLO device and battery life is supposed to reach up to 5 hours (3G browsing) or 45 hours for audio playback. You also get 8 hours of talk time from it.

MicroUSB, micro HDMI, a front 1.3 megapixel camera, stereo speakers, 16GB of storage and 1GB of RAM are also available on the handset, as well as Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi b/g/n. It’s been years since Intel has been planning a move to the mobile world and it’s only now that they dare to make it. Let’s see how they handle the heat, especially with this first model and one more from Lenovo coming, the K800, plus at least one more created by Motorola.

Nokia Lumia 610 Debuts in Asia

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 12:02 PM PDT

Nokia Lumia 610, the lower end device in the Lumia series has just debuted in Asia and it’s supposed to go on sale in the Philippines in the final week of April. China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore will get this affordable WP7 model in the following weeks. Vietnam and Taiwan will also get them in the same time frame.

The Lumia 610 is meant to show the features of Windows Phone to a younger public and introduce them to those appealing tiles. I guess that emerging markets will get it the first, since that makes sense, considering the features and low price and Nokia also announced that in this quarter more countries will get the handset. Nokia Lumia 610 comes with 256 MB RAM, without a microSD card slot, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango as the OS, HSDPA 7.2 Mbps connectivity and a 3.7 inch 480 x 800 pixel display.

This candybar phone weighs 132 grams, measures 12mm in thickness and it uses a 1300 mAh battery, that provides 7.50 hours of talk time and 22.1 days of standby functioning. It also has a single core 800 MHz CPU, 8 GB of storage and a 5 megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video capture. The folks in the know have mentioned a 180 euro price tag for this newcomer, in case you want it.

HTC J Appears on HTC Japan Site With Beats Headphones, Quickly Taken Down

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 05:38 AM PDT

It appears that HTC is not ready to rest on the laurels of what seem to be big sales of the One series devices and are already preparing new models. I’m talking here about the rumored HTC Golf unit, that already leaked last week and also about this newcomer, the HTC J, also codenamed ISW13HT. This device appeared on the HTC Japan website, only to be pulled soon after.

HTC J was listed as coming to Japanese carrier KDDI and being compatible with the WiMAX network. As you can see, its design isn’t similar to the one of the HTC One series of handsets, so it’s a different model, maybe a localized one. The handset was also mentioned as running Android 4.0 with HTC Sense 4.0 and packing the new Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 CPU, a popular choice for new smartphones nowadays. 1GB of RAM and 16GB of storage, plus microSD were all on board.

The device’s screen is a 4.3 inch qHD unit and the J was shown in a white version and had Beats Audio earbuds bundled with it. The measurements indicate a phone that’s 10mm thick, so way thicker than the One X and One S slim handsets. Also listed within the leak there was a Spring 2012 launch date, but I can’t guarantee it will ever leave Japan.

Huawei Ascend P1 Launching Internationally in May/June, Later This Summer in Europe

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 04:24 AM PDT

Huawei wants to get rid of that image of low end phone maker and thus it amazed everyone at MWC 2012 with some interesting dual core and quad core phones, including the world’s thinnest smartphone. Now, it appears that the thicker relative of the thinnest phone, the Huawei Ascend P1 gets an international launch date.

The device takes off in China today and it’s already sold out according to the chairman of the company. Know that this Android 4.0 phone will come to Australia, Hong Kong and Taiwan in May, while Latin America will get it in June and Europe later this summer. We’re dealing with a 7.7mm thick smartphone with a 4.3 inch qHD Super AMOLED screen, an 8 megapixel camera and a 1.5 GHz TI OMAP 4460 dual core CPU. The device also offers Dolby Mobile surround sound via the headphones or home theater through HDMI.

Huawei Ascend P1 is expected to be follow by the P1 S model, the very thin 6.7mm model and there’s also a P1 LTE coming, but no info about their release dates. Back to the Ascend P1, know that its specs also include 1GB of RAM, 4 GB of ROM, a microSD card slot, a 1.3 MP front camera and Li-Ion 1670 mAh battery.

Samsung Trademarks Three New Galaxy Phone Names: Metrix, Velvet and Legend

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 02:34 AM PDT

Samsung has trademarked yet another series of phone names, after copyrighting another 5 or 6 brandings from the start of the year. This time the new names are Galaxy Metrix, Velvet and Legend. A while ago we were surprised to see Samsung using the Galaxy Next name a second time, since they already have a Next phone in their portofolio.

Also, the projector phone Beam, shown at MWC 2012 also has twin with a similar name, launched a while ago. Well, as long as the products were launched many years ago, there’s no problem, right? We have no idea what the Metrix, Velvet and Legend will stand for, but some speculate they will actually be US rebrandings for the Galaxy S III. As you may be aware, US carriers have the habit of rebranding the Galaxy S series models, so the Galaxy S and S II had about 3-4 different names depending on the carrier, or even more!

A device called Galaxy Legend would have to be pretty cool to get that name, so we’ll have to keep an eye on that one. Just look at the HTC Legend and how good that handset was, so good that even now it has a fanbase and its design served as inspiration for the HTC One V…

HTC One S Coming to T-Mobile on April 25, You’ll Pay $199.99 for It

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 02:01 AM PDT

After the HTC One X for AT&T got an official pricing and launch date, it’s time for the One S to start its descent onto USA, but this time through T-Mobile. The thinnest HTC ever will come to the carrier on April 25th, with a price tag of $199.99, after a $50 mail in rebate and with a 2 year contract.

The device will come with support for T-Mobile’s 42 Mbps HSPA+ network, so while it may not be the LTE provided by the HTC One XL on AT&T, it’s still pretty fast. As far as design goes, there’s no change from the international version, unless you count the T-Mobile logo on the front. For those of you who don’t know, HTC One S is part of a trio of handsets unveiled by HTC at MWC 2012, the HTC One series. This model comes with a 7.8mm chassis, weighs 119.5 grams and packs a Super AMOLED 4.3 inch display.

HTC One S provides 16GB of storage, 1 GB of RAM, an 8 megapixel camera with the new ImageSense technology, support for 1080p 30 fps video capture and simultaneous HD video and image recording. The OS on board is Android 4.0 ICS, that runs on top of a Qualcomm MSM8260A Snapdragon dual core processor.

Samsung Galaxy S III Pictured in Brazil? Looks Uglier Than It Should…

Posted: 19 Apr 2012 01:00 AM PDT

Courtesy of Gizmodo Brazil we have the opportunity to have a glance of what look like a bunch of live pics of the Samsung Galaxy S III. Launching on May 3rd, this supposed quad core flagship looks uglier than we expected, at least in these pictures. Or maybe it’s because the device is wrapped in plastic and the photo is blurry…

It’s interesting to see a leak of the newest Samsung smartphone coming from the country that now has a Foxconn plant making iPhones and also a street named Steve Jobs. Gizmodo Brazil’s source says that the device is thinner and heavier than expected and that it packs a 12 megapixel camera. Recent rumors also said that the handset comes with a 1080p display and a quad core processor, most likely of the Exynos kind. No info about the case, that two months ago was pegged to be made of ceramic. Seeing how well that worked out for HTC’s One series, I doubt it…

The same Brazilian source says that the serial number of the phone is Samsung GT-I9300, that’s actually associated with the Galaxy M, according to GSMArena. However, the source is pretty confident that this is the Galaxy S III and supporting their claim is last month’s leak of a press photo from Netherlands, that showed us a similar Galaxy S III.
