Six things Nokia did to make the modern cell phone

Posted: 15 Apr 2012 05:09 PM PDT

Here’s an interesting article CNET posted last week called,

“Six things Nokia did to make the modern cell phone”

http://www.cnet.com/8301-17918_1-57410695-85/six-things-nokia-did-to-make-the-modern-cell-phone/

This included the daring designs, making phones smarter (and inventing the smartphone) and pushing the boundaries, on things like imaging.

Kent German concludes:

As I said, we don’t yet know how successful Nokia’s latest moves will be. Judging on specs and beauty alone, though, I’d say things are looking up. After all, it has quite the innovative history behind it.

Video: New Beta-Test Ad-Identical Phones

Posted: 15 Apr 2012 02:35 PM PDT

There were alot of mixed feelings about the first round of  Beta-Test ads where some people said that this isn’t Nokia’s style and that they were taking cheap shots Etc… well that’s what marketing is all about; it doesn’t have to be a genius ad; as long as it sticks in your mind the next time your buying a new product (and these ads will do exactly that).

In the latest ad Dr. Space Man points out how having the same phone as 500Million other people makes you “an individual” - and for those of you who were complaining about the ads being too “In your face” this one seem to have been toned down a bit; not targeting a specific phone/model and boasting the Lumias design a bit more.

*Side note- someone in the last batch was pointing out about how awesome the galaxy note ads were since they got directly to the point and made you want to buy the phone rather than diss other models; you obviously haven’t seen this capaign which basically insults EVERY single iPhone user out there:

The whole point of these campaigns is too be a bit snippy and snide- that’s how all the greatest ads are (as multiple people pointed out the Mac Vs. PC ads which were a huge hit); and besides Nokia still have their usual ads that show the phones features- nothing wrong with mixing it up a little.

*oh and before anyone points out that the Lumia 900 is a mimic of the 800 & the N9 keep in mind that these ads are for the US market which have had limited exposure to both- so essentially it’s a new design.

More Nokia Concept designs reach patent office – New Symbian phone? Or new WP?

Posted: 15 Apr 2012 12:32 PM PDT

It seems that another Nokia, once seen as a concept Windows Phone, has appeared at a patent office.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/03/28/new-nokia-phone/

The above received a lot of praises the first time it was seen, those sleek sides curving around covered in some bold colours. Nice.

The white one kinda looks like the HTC One X, no?

Whilst the previous WP patent design had a similar minimalistic bar, this could potentially be Symbian too. Contrast this with the original concept for this design which has a flush face and no bar.

I’d love to see a new Symbian phone in this design. It’s pretty sleek and FP1 is looking like it deserves to be in a new slim handset.

Lumiappaday #152: iStunt2 demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800

Posted: 15 Apr 2012 03:30 AM PDT

This was, surprisingly, a really great looking and fun game to play. I say surprising as I didn’t know what to expect and was pleasantly met with some really  polished looking visuals with very addictive gameplay.

You are a snowboarder and you use accelerometer (and later touch) to traverse the slopes and do stunts. At first I found it impossible, my rider kept hurling himself into the snow and landing in a way that would only result in major operations or the morgue (but he’s invincible so don’t worry). The moment I got the hang of it, it’s really good. The accelerometer is very sensitive so factor that in. The more you tilt, the more he will move one way, e.g. spin when in midair. You can use flicks down to crouch, up to jump and when mid air, left and right to grab. There may be more moves but I didn’t get around to it.

There are lots of interesting bits to the game, I probably didn’t encounter them all, such as the gravity shift, where suddenly the game turns upside down.

Overall a really fun game to pick up on the go. Give it a try (trial available). Oh this is an Xbox Live title – usual comments with achievement scores etc.

Not too bad, I think the game is worth a try and even a buy if you like it enough on your Lumia. It isn’t too expensive, but the exact same game is only $0.99 on App Store.
