Nokia Lumia 900 Update Fix already available

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 05:01 PM PDT

I thought this wasn’t due until the 16th, but always a good thing to see an update appear early.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/04/11/nokia-lumia-900-connection-fix-nokia-gives-100-good-will-gesture-update-fix-in-5-days-or-swap-now-with-updated-lumia/

Now this was mainly to fix that error which caused problems connecting to AT&T’s LTE network.

A commenter at WPCentral said:

Well my phone is now stably locked onto 4G. No more hunting around like before. Its hard to prove a negative but this seems pretty good so far!

Nokia 700 processor details updated to 1.3GHz

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 04:30 PM PDT

KF noted that the Nokia 700′s specs page shows that the processor has now been updated (via FP1 update) to 1.3GHz.

At the time of writing the 701 still says 1.0GHz.

http://www.developer.nokia.com/Devices/Device_specifications/700/

As well as FP1 tweaks, the increased clock rate is part the reason the 700 might feel faster after the update (and why some have noted a reduction in battery life).

Cheers KF for the tip!

Nokia Lumia 900 in Magenta spotted

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 04:00 PM PDT

This shouldn’t be a surprise since we expected a Magenta version of the Nokia Lumia 900 from the very beginning. But at least now there’s more confirmation of its existence. I believe Elop mentioned in an interview some months back that these were coming.

http://mynokiablog.com/2012/01/21/lte-free-lumia-900-for-europe-magenta-900-and-maybe-other-colours-coming-to-us-successor-devices-coming/

The image above doesn’t appear to be simply a case, but the actual Magenta 900. We don’t know when this might appear, WPCentral speculates it would tie nicely in to Mother’s Day (May 13th, UK already had theirs in March). The White Lumia 900 is expected April 22nd.

Apple Co-Founder Steve Wozniak Lining up to buy Nokia Lumia 900?

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 11:12 AM PDT

What’s this about? Co Founder of Apple, Steve Wozniak seems to be looking to buy a Nokia Lumia 900 too! Well he’s checking for availability, ‘wasting time’ eating breakfast waiting for AT&T store to open.

Whilst a prominent figure in the Apple world, Wozniak has been previously seen with handsets of competitors and actually complimenting them. We hope perhaps the same thing goes for the Lumia 900. Now will he go for black or blue?  Hopefully there will be stock as reports are going around that they’re out of stock at various AT&T stores. It would also be funny if we hear an unknown AT&T rep still trying to push an iPhone despite the 900 being their current ‘flagship’.

Nokia Lumia 900 – £489.99. Very pricey.

Nokia 808 PureView – £519.99. Although much more expensive, this is probably the most value for money for me, given all the features (and overall, Belle FP1 makes them more usable than ever before on Symbian)

Epic Video: “Your Samsung is a Piece of..” #BlownAwayByLumia

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 09:44 AM PDT

Everyone’s heard of smoked by WP; but the less popular yet just as awesome BlownAwayByLumia is just Nokias version of it; more popular in India- the spin on it is instead of the likes of BenThePCGuy they get tech bloggers from each area to carry out the challenges in malls & Universities and blow people away.

Now of course I would be a bit sour if I lost; but NOTHING could compare to getting showed up by my girlfriend who outright called this guys phone a

“Worthess Piece of $hit”

Even better is the way she was talking to him before.. “Ok, can we go now? Can you come with me?” – Basically if your done embarrassing yourself and me let’s go please; and the blokes expression.. I really don’t know what was best. Anyways here’s the video showing  our man @bharadc23 embarrassing this poor fellow.

After seeing this it’s no wonder Samsung India called the competition “Unethical” - Honestly props to Nokia India FOR NOT editing that out.

Lumiappaday #150: 3D Brick Breaker Revolution demoed on the Nokia Lumia 800 #XboxLive

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 05:42 AM PDT

I know I only just demoed a Block Breaker game yesterday but this is yet another very good version of that game style.
Oddly, 3D Brick Breaker Revolution has only got 2.5 stars at Marketplace – quite undeserved as it’s a brilliant game at a very decent price, lots of fun and possibly my favourite version of the game so far.

The controls are very friendly. I like that I can either move the base thing myself or press left or right so my finger doesn’t get in the way. The powerups are also pretty crazy. The game looks good, it plays well, and it’s a lot of fun. I recommend you to at least press the try button. The video doesn’t do the game much justice (those funny lines started appearing on the screen again when they aren’t visible to the naked eye – possibly as I forgot to readjust FPS recording back to my lighting in Manchester)

Nokia Connects Site gets a facelift, hubs for Nokia Tech, Creativity and Innovation.

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 04:05 AM PDT

Just last October, we said goodbye to WOMWorld and hello to Nokia Connects. That new name and new ravamped team has been really successful, going from strength to strength and now their site has been updated with a fresh new look.

http://mynokiablog.com/2011/10/12/goodbye-womworldnokia-hello-nokiaconnects-nokia_connects-nokiaconnects-com/

From linear blog style they now have a grid – mini thumbnail, little blurb to make it easier to see a lot of the stories in one go as soon as you load up the home page. I like it. Nokia Conversations, take note. I know they tried something similar but it’s not as user friendly as this style (at least I think so and some other Nokia bloggers I’ve spoken to).

http://nokiaconnects.com/

Here’s an email from the Nokia Connects team explaining the change:

That's right, Nokia Connects has had a makeover. It's now back and better than ever!

Nokia Connects will not only be the new home of the Nokia trial programme; it will also host all the exciting community events, story-sharing and amazing social experiments that we're working on at Nokia.

We're also thrilled to announce that you'll now be able to read all the latest and greatest news from the world of tech over at our techquarters hub, learn about innovations over attrailblazing  and keep an eye on our trend series, which looks at creativity in all its forms.

As always, it's all about you. We want you to get to know the new site and let us know what you like, what you don't like, and any recommendations we need to think about. We're all ears!

So, without further ado, drop by and visit today athttp://nokiaconnects.com/ and please drop by and say Hi@Nokia_Connects

Have a great weekend,

Mala & the Nokia Connects team

There’s also a post at Nokia Connects explaining the different categories, tech, creativity and innovation.

You could optionally buy the same phone directly (if they still have in in stock) in Finland at gigantti.

Camera comparison: HTC One X vs Nokia N8 vs SGS II vs Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Posted: 13 Apr 2012 12:43 AM PDT

We recently read from AAS’ Steve Litchfield that the One X was still comfortably beaten by the 2010 camera in the Nokia N8. Now that wasn’t a win on the basis of it being a Symbian site, if you had read Myriams review of the One X, you’ll have read that Myriam is still very impressed with the N8 “ Sure, it’s not in the same league as the N8 (which rivals the S95 in some cases)”

Now don’t shoot me here, but there’s a lot of impressive things HTC are doing too. Their camera UI in the One X, like that in the 808/N9 is pretty darn good, with a fast starting camera, quick take time in a relatively slim body producing quite good pictures (surprisingly very nice in low light no flash). I think praise acknowledgement is deserved where due and from once taking photos that look like it was captured by a potato to attempting to rival what Nokia produces at their best, it’s quite something. Well, best from 2 years ago. All camera phones will be demolished by Nokia’s best (5 years in the making) this May. (BTW, apparently HTC’s own Amaze was better than the One X  quality wise). Where we have to worry is when Nokia’s new devices, like the N9 and 800 which don’t have the hefty camera lump get beaten in the camera department by said potato camera.

Anyway, I digress. What I wanted to share with you is a camera comparison between the Nokia N8 and that One X again, as well as the usual iPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy SII and Nexus. This was done by phone arena.

http://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Camera-comparison-One-X-vs-Galaxy-S-II-vs-Nexus-vs-N8-vs-iPhone-4S_id3006

In most camera tests, the Nokia N8 stills wins. Colour reproduction, indoor, macro and exposure. Where I was surprised it was beaten was supposedly in detail, and night pics. For video, N8 still beats the 1080p HTC One X, apparently on par with SGS II with number 1 being the iPhone. In usability, N8 comes 3rd. That’s behind iPhone (2), HTC OneX at the top.

These phones aren’t just cameras. For many people, they need to be usable in many different areas too, and that’s where the age in the N8 shows – even with the current Belle as the hardware is lacking. You can tell this because Belle FP1 with much stronger CPU/GPU, 512mb RAM flies. I have never used it but I can guess it looking quite pleasant from the videos. The only issue I found mentioned by the MWC folks was some annoying software bugs every now and again (they were prototypes) the major ones we hope to be gone by May.

Thanks Thatsme, Sonny and Remco for the tip!
