Nokia Lumia 800 Number 1 selling phone for Elisa Finland in 2012

WMPU reports that Elisa Finland’s top selling phone is the Nokia Lumia 800. Their headline is a little more exciting as it says Elisa is the largest network in Finland (Wiki’s data says Sonera, though that was 2008).

Arun suggested that according to Statcounter’s Data, WP was the biggest selling OS in Finland too (given how much marketshare it has increased by compared to the current players).

Wild Predictions/Rumours: Nokia Selling Phone division to Huawei and Microsoft

Posted: 02 Jan 2013 12:47 PM PST

I saw this earlier in the day but I wasn’t able to get to a computer in time to read it properly, let alone write about it. Yet again, some people are spelling doom and gloom for Nokia. Surprise, surprise, it’s Forbes.

Supposedly, a contributor’s opinion piece, now circulating everywhere, suggests something quite bizzare. Nokia (who has mentioned time and time again about the mobile products they’re unveilling in 2013) is supposedly, (after all that work that’s now showing signs of progress, albeit small) is going to shut up shop and sell, sell, sell. Haven’t we heard this already?

Firmware Update Available for Nokia 808 PureView

Posted: 02 Jan 2013 10:55 AM PST

WP_000303Apparently there’s a surprise update available for the Nokia 808; rolling it up to version 113.010.1508; this update brings “Improved performance and features”. The update although 420MB in size (that’s through the PC suite; possibly much smaller OTA?) doesn’t seem to bring any major changes, or in fact anything noticeable at all; nonetheless updates are always good, so try your luck and see if you have one.

If you do happen to spot any new features/changes let us know down below.

*I haven’t been able to check if my 808 has the update available seeing how I’m traveling and left it at home :/

AAS: PureView Shoot Out Round 2, Nokia 808 PureView vs Nokia Lumia 920 PR1.1

Steve Litchfield compares the two heavy hitters in imaging right now, the Nokia 808 PureView and the Nokia Lumia 920 with the PR1.1 update that includes some imaging improvements.

http://allaboutwindowsphone.com/features/item/16500_PureView_shootout_round_two_No.php

The 808 PureView is still of course the unabashed winner in 6 out of 8 tests and Steve likens it to coming second to Usain Bolt. You might still be better compared to many other smartphones, except of course the incredible Nokia 808 PureView. The images on the 920 do look great, but when you zoom in and inspect pixel for pixel, the quality from the 808 is just astonishing. It shocks me still, to this day when I zoom in to picture perfect images from my 808. It’s also a jaw dropper moment for folks that read the 41mp label, especially for those that think that’s useless on a phone until they see themselves holding a menu, me taking a picture and being able to later zoom in to the naked-eye unreadable fineprint.

I do wonder sometimes when Nokia will bother to bring Xenon to WP Lumia. Even that on its own would be markedly better for low light close up people pics. Or even N8 grade imaging to WP. Make a set of slim WPs, but give users a choice if they want something fatter because it’s worth the bulk.

Here’s to PureView V3 :D

290% growth for WP, fastest growing OS for 2012?

Posted: 01 Jan 2013 10:48 PM PST

Surur from WMPU reports that Windows Phone is the “fastest growing” OS with 290% last year.

Whilst percentage growth does sound fantastic, we also want to see growth in shipment sales, particularly of the biggest and most important partner, Nokia.

It’s still baby steps as MS realigns, unifies and integrates its ecosystem whilst Nokia prepares for a new set of innovative devices.

I found a couple of interesting comments from that article, one that adresses some current faults at MS and why MS isn’t getting the traction they can, and a response as to the still very huge potential in everything working out (in time).
